• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

MSFC v7, and the transfer to Xenforo has meant that things many members have been accustom to for so long has changed. It has come to my attention that some members are having trouble finding some features and so this tutorial has been written as a way to help out members with the post message box.

Whether you're replying to a post or creating a new thread, the box is the same and so any images attached to this tutorial will be using the create thread screen.

The post message box, as you may have guessed is the input box where a member can writing up their message (whether it be a new thread or a new post) and submit it.

Below is an image of the message box, pretty straight forward. It has been numbered to help identified particular parts.

Open it in a new tab to get the full view.

Below is a list of them all and what they do:

  1. Bold - Basic text styling.
  2. Italic - Basic text styling.
  3. Underline - Basic text styling.
  4. Text colour - To colour your text. Please keep in mind some colours don't work well on dark backgrounds and can be eye straining and coloured text should only be used to highlight or emphasis a part of your text. Normal text should be left at the default colour.
  5. Font size - As with text colour, these should only be used to emphasis your text most notable for headings etc. Not to be used to change the standard text size.
  6. Font family/style - As with the above two to be used for headings etc and not to change the standard text font. It is preferred that this not be used at all as it can mess up the style and look of the site. This most likely will be disable for all (Admins included) at a later date.
  7. Link - This will bring up a small pop-up to allow you to add a link to your highlighted text.
  8. Unlink - Allows you to remove a link.
  9. Alignment - Basic alignment properties. Left, right and center.
  10. Unordered List - Starts a list that has no numbers. Like in MSWord or OpenOffice.
  11. Ordered List - Starts a list that has numbers. Like in MSWord or OpenOffice. This list is an ordered list.
  12. Outdent - Moves your text out from the rest.
  13. Indent - Moves your text inwards from the rest.
  14. Smilies - Opens a additional window under the posting area to allow you to insert smilies into your post.
  15. Image - Allows you to attach an image. This will most likely we disabled in the future. It is requested that all images on the site be attachments only.
  16. Media - Allows you to insert videos like from Youtube. You post the link and the site will inbed it into your post.
  17. Insert - Allows you to insert Quotes, Spoilers, code or strike-through text.
  18. Drafts - Drafts are saved by the site much like word editors, this way if you accidentally leave the page you can load the draft of your lost post. Drafts aren't saved for long.
  19. Undo - Undo your last actions
  20. Redo - Redo your last undone actions.
  21. Remove formatting - Just like word editors removed all formatting such as bold, links indent etc.
  22. Use BBcode Editor - Changes the window to a basic editor with no easy to use editor functions and you'll need to know bbcode to use this. Can be switched back to normal editor view by clicking a link under the message box on the left hand side.
Well that is it for this basic tutorial. I hope this is use to some members out there. For more information on the BBcodes and smiley shortcuts, please visit the help pages, link is in the top navbar.
