• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

Wastelands is set five years after the Dominion war. The Cardassians' chance to survive as an independent state in that time is mostly dependent on their ability to get along with the other forces. They'd probably try to have good relations to the more benevolent ones. Still, they wouldn't receive military help from them (well... the Feds, maybe...). But they've learnt too much from the War to hang out with evil guys. I'll have to work something special out for them.

Which war; the Dominion War, The Mealstrom Conflict, or the Kentur Uprising?

Dominion War. I'm not sure when the others happened, but the Dominion War basically ruined large parts of the Cardassian infrastructure, and so they need lots of resources to rebuild not only their fleet, but also lots of other things.

Update please! :p:cry:

I'm doing the Feds right now - and I intend to complete them before I move on. While most of their ships are ingame already, they need more stations. After that, stations for Klinkers and Romulans. I may add the pirates before or after them, actually, as they don't have many todos. Then some balancing and public beta. This beta version will probz be MSFC-exclusive. The FF release (the Shortcat version, as opposed to MSFC's Longcat version - I needed names for them :p) will be done when the mod is completed, as I need to put replacement models and textures into there.

If you want to get some nice visual input (apart from my dA page), I'll be able to make a little gameplay vid in about two weeks, I think.

I'd like to add that if anyone of you has an idea he/she thinks could fit into the mod (even completely unimportant things), throw them at me! :)

Not to mention the pounding they got from the klinkers just prior to the war. The only reason they could fight at all was because the feds kept the klingons from wiping them out completely, and the dominion helped them rebuild.

I like the logo, but I would nitpick to say that Blue/green resembles our planet/fertility. For the wastlands theme, I would go for more of brown/grey, and maybe some corrosion or something on the background.

Good idea. It's just a gimp script, so changing the parameters is all I need to do.

I agree with the Zaxxon man, more Earth colours (red's etc) would be more fitting for the mod concept. I look forward to seeing what else you can come up with.

I kinda wanted the writing part to look like a decayed 70s sign. If you remember the background story, no one has visited the Avalon stations since Kirk's era, and that is quite a long time. So I thought the people going to these stations see all the happy shiny TOS era signs, but nobody has looked after them for about a century, so they're all these decayed and ruined versions of what they looked like a hundred years ago.

epicfail.PNG

Yes. The header literally reads "Sometime in this millennium".

So when does your date/time thingy say it is, 2850 or something? BTW, when I enlarged the image I kept trying to click the red X to close the window. It didn't work too well.

The Mealstrom Conflict is the Bridge Comander Campain and the Kentur Uprising is the Klingon campain in A2:cool:

Just to let everyone know, Wastelands lives and is being worked on as we speak. Community projects and IRL projects (ahem) have sort of taken away the time, but there is progress. A long time ago I uploaded some pics on my dA profile, checkz0rz them outz0rz if you haven't seen them yet. I hope to have new ones up this weekend.

EDIT: Urist McModderKitten cancels Real Life: Modding A2 :lol2:

Great to hear your still working on Wastelands, yeah us modders don't have much of a life. We can't afford to due to our modding obsessions. :lol2:

Hey Terra, how's the mod been? I can't wait to get to test this out, as this mod was one of the reasons I joined MSFC.

Hope that your personal life is going well, and also hope to get any new developments on Wastelands in the near future.

Still going strong. It was a tough semester this winter, but now it's over and apart from a few exams I am done with it.

Most of the assets are in-game, it's just a horrible amount of ODF hacking while balancing. Hope to have a few pics of actual progress up this week.

Okay, so I'm finally hacking away on the ODFs while finishing up the Fed side. For good. I will bring the mini races into a useable state (they still need some ODF love) and make a few maps, and then release. Campaign is still far away, and the Cardies have been in planning stage, but the main mod should be playable and a lot of fun soon.

I'll be doing a small series of highlights over at deviantart while I finish up the feds. Yes, I should spend the time actually working and not uselessly hyping people, but it'll give me something to do between hacking and learning. Sometimes I just need that. I strive to attain perfection, but as a programmer I'm not as efficient as a Borg drone. Not yet, anyway. :p So keep your eyes open for these, if you are interested in Wastelands! :D

Hey folks,

some news. The mod's still there, and it's being worked on much more now, but I've had to cut some things out. It recently occurred to me that I had done what I wanted to avoid - blowing up the mod concept with things that had no place in it, planning too far ahead etc. That has changed now, and my plans are much more realistic.

With the recent decline of the modding community as a whole, me and Mike (Fireball) are probably the only people still working on stock TCs. (Well, I don't think we'll ever see The Ultimate Star Trek Armada II All Races Mod & More as 'promised' by JN, so that doesn't count.) It's getting cold out here, with so many people gone. I don't even know whether anyone but me will play this thing when it's done. But hey, that one person is enough for me. I'm determined. It's hard to keep up nowadays, with both Sigma and FO being wonderful mods. It's both inspiring and demotivating. Knowing that the very instant a new Sigma release comes out, you'll drop everything where you stand and run of to install because ASDFGHJKLNEEDTUNGOODNESSOMGWTFBBQ what is this sorcery? how does he do the awesome?.

I took a stroll down Dead Mod Lane recently, browsing through old FF news and stuff. It's hilarious reading "Is A2 playing and modding dead?" in 2004 or so. "This is the best mod ever, and it'll be released in a few months!" in a post about a mod I never heard of, and never will again, because the post is almost ten years old. God knows I've pulled enough of these. You always think you'll have enough time to do some serious work and to finish, and then a few days later something pops up and distracts you. Ah, whatever. Reminiscing and whining is not gonna do any good.

TL;DR: still at it, had to cut down the mod a bit, need MOAR COFFEH ****it :x

I know I'll play it. So many games and mods focus on the massive battles with super-ships and things. While that's very fun, it gets stale after a while. The smaller scale of Wastelands and the focus on the backwaters will be very refreshing and interesting.
