The Terran Empire

We've seen them in both Enterprise, and the Original Series, though they did seem to differ slightly in both series. In Enterprise, they seemed like a tyrannic force, bent on Domination.

In the Original Series, the crew generally seemed more like a bunch of trouble makers, and aggressors. Maybe they took a more darkened turn from ENT to TOS.

Anyway, we know in the DS9 Mirror Universe episodes, that the Terran Empire is no more. We don't see them, and I don't believe they're mentioned at all by anyone.

In the TOS episode, where Kirk, McKoy and co end up on the Mirror Universe Enterprise, Kirk persuades the Mirror Spock to be more peaceful and such. This ultimatly leads to the downfall of the Terran Empire, as they'll either end up defeated, or they'll just crumble under their own might.

My question is though, at what Trek year did the Terran Empire fall? Did they make into what we know as TMP, or TNG, or did they drop dead back in TOS?

Well... there is no canon answer unfortunately, nor is there a definitive non-canon one.

One non-canon novel claims its 2295 after Spock becomes emperor, (and in a SW twist) makes it the Terran Republic, preaching disarmament, and renouncing pre-emptive war. Klingons and Spoonheads unite, and conquer the republic.

In the 'dark mirror' novel, spock was assasinated before his reforms were introduced, and the empire (united empire of planets apparently) continues to exist into the TNG era, where they find that without a strong foe, the empire will collapse in decades.

In the shatnerverse, the empire becomes more aggressive after finding out the borgs influence on first contact. Kirk becomes Emperor, is overthrown by Spock, and then unites the Klingons and Cardassians into an alliance, and conquers the terran empire.

And in the mirror universe saga, Spock decided against following the advice of the Kirk from our universe and instead remains first officer of the ISS Enterprise. In 2285 the Empire launchs an invasion of the Federation by sending the crew of the ISS Enterprise to replace their versions in our universe .

So the answer is... who knows
I'd go with the 2295 one though. seems to fit the known canon better

And yes, I am at work, bored, next shift is late, and i did go look it up...

I don't remember what novel it is, or the year that it was supposed to happen [ I think it was a Shatnerverse novel]. But the Terran Empire had it's own Battle of Wolf 359. In this battle, it wasn't th borg that smashed them, but the Klingon-Cardassian Allaince that crushed the remnants of the once powerful Imperial Fleet.

Wow I vaguely remember the TOS episode, but what I recall is that the Terran Empire was expanding and conquering wherever they could. And that the way promotions went were through assassination (Very Sith-like IMO).

The DS9 mirror universe mentioned something about once Spock started spreading his message of peace and whatnot, the Empire became weak and was conquered. Which era is up for interpretation, because from the way it sounded to me it might even have been pre-TMP era. Then again with Spock's life cycle it might have even been Lost or TNG era.

I don't read the novels so I only base this from what I vaguely recall from the episodes.

The Terran Empire is one of those head-scratcher topics much like Temporal Mechanics.

Canonically, it's hard to pin down an exact year, since we only visited the Mirror Universe in ENT, TOS, and DS9. If I had my say, it'd be somewhere during the end of the TNG-era since in the normal (our) Universe, that's when the Federation appears to be at its height of power.

Non-canonically, I've read the novel "Dark Mirror" and it seems to imply that the Terran Empire is still going strong (novel is set around the 4th Season of TNG) at least for a while longer.

Just personally ignoring all the novels I would say their downfall was close to the TNG series as Kira (Mirror) did say the Terrans occupied Bajor for many years until the Alliance freed them and they joined the Alliance. Given that progress (local space expansion) would be roughly the same, maybe a little faster in the Mirror Universe I'd say in the 2340's-50's was when the Empire fell to it's enemy.

I'm guessing the cardassian occupation of Bajor never happened because the Terrans did it. That was "80 years ago" When DS9 started. So if I had to guess, then I would say about 2320-2340

Majestic, I'm guessing that was a typo on the dates? 2240's-50's:)

becasue there is so much written about it, and so many fun ideas bouncing around... I prefer to think of them going strong.

They make too good an enemy to waste with an offhand reference to one pointy eared git crashing them...

So long live Tiberius III and forward the Terran Empire of 2383...

Don't you mean 2385? :p I think I like the idea of the Terran Empire never really falling...

I think an interesting counterpart to the Terran Empire would be a more reasonable, almost logical Klingon Empire. After all if its a Mirror Universe, why are the Klingons and Cardassians still aggressive?

Maybe make them a spiritual, honourable people. Think Mediaeval Chinese. Kind of reclusive, some internal troubles but mainly pacifist. Makes an interesting comparison to the Mongol like Terran Empire.

Lol... that actually makes for an interesting debate, why weren't they complete opposites?

It was only humans that were any different. Vulcans still acted like vulcans, romulans presumably like romulans, and Klingons obviously like Klingons.

One argument is that they were forced to be that way by the actions of the Terran Empire but the other is that the writers messed up

Incredibly emotional Vulcans would have been fun, if a little cliched.

The idea of Mirror Borg makes me chuckle. They'd be a bit "Hello Kitty", just wanting to fly around the universe giving hugs to people and spreading love and peace.

"We are the Borg, Lower your shields and lay down your arms. We will beam aboard with flowers, inspirational videos and show you the futility of anger and aggression with the power of interpretive dance. Your biological and technological distinctiveness will be held in awe, and your crewmen given a big huggle. Resistance is futile"

tbh, vulcans and romulans would just switch. Vulcans would embrace emotion instead of logic, the romulans would have left to embrace logic lol.

Loving the description of the mirror Borg... someone should do a mod based solely on that

There was an advert back in blighty not so long ago of Darleks preaching peace and love and wanting hugs. Goes along way towards a mirror Borg image that :)

There was a TNG episode (Parallels I think) which ended up with multiple Ent-D's popping up in our Galaxy. Odd thing is, it was the only time (I think) when we saw any of such.

The only other universe we can apparently come and go from is this 'Mirror One'. Whats so special about it?
