• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

The last Goodbye

So, if you haven't heard yet, GameFront is being shut down for good on April 30th. And with it, the old FileFront forums.

I know a lot of us already said goodbye when the network sites were shut down, but dangit, this is still very sad. Considering how much time I've spent there and how many of you folks I met there, it almost feels like my virtual childhood home. If any of you feel the same way, stop by the reunion thread on the FF forums - lots of old names popping up and reminiscing about the past.

As for the future, FileTrekker has announced that he'll be setting up a successor to the FF forums that will hopefully also have a backup of the old FF forums.

Very sad news. I hope FileTrekker can save a back up of the forums. There is such large amount of info there I sometimes still refer back to old posts and enjoy digging through them periodically.

There's now a goodbye thread in the A2Files subforum. If you feel like saying goodbye to the old place, please do sign in a last time and join us.

Yeah, it would be a real shame. So much wisdom has accumulated there over the years, not to mention the nostalgic value. I really miss some of the people who used to hang out there.

Thanks Terra. I did go post a message. I also went into my private messages and screen capped anything important like mod permissions and such that I communicated with others about. Don't want to lose all those when it goes down.

The modders, staff who uploaded and managed the files, those who discussed new ideas in the modding forums, and those who asked interesting questions which led to great ideas: these are the people who made these games worth playing over, and over, and over again. It's a shame that it's all coming to an end, but hopefully FileTrekker and Co. will be successful in porting that database backup to FilesNation, which is supposedly where the archive will be hosted. If that happens, then the loss of Filefront will at least not be total. Still, it is sad I must say.

I got my start on Filefront's Gaming Forums back in late 2004, I think through the affiliates listed on Armada Fleet Command. After starting my own modding team, I got a lot of support from the Armada community there. While posting random lols in Gaming Forum's general discussion area, I focused on putting together our own modding team forum, where we mostly did Star Trek related RPGs or some other not so modding-related stuff (like sharing links to goofy videos with one another), which I don't regret at all. So, while I had a lot of fun discussing modding on the Gaming Forums (as well as posting goofy stuff and having fun in general discussion), I started to do less actual modding. Still, those were some good times.
