• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

I decided I wanted to practice making better textures and using Sketchup, so I made a very simple design and made some textures for it. This is the third ship I've worked on in Sketchup that uses textures:

What do you think?

Indeed very well done, I would suggest adding an aztec pattern to the texture to give it more metal like look.

A great job none the less, better than my early attempts for sure.

It does have an aztec texture, but the opacity is set pretty low. I could try increasing it or increasing the texture size to make it more visible

It might be the size/resolution of the images that makes it hard to see.

Pretty awesome work and you should be proud!

Yeah, bringing out the finer details really makes a texture stand out. Heh, I should know. :p The hull parts aren't that detailed but its enough to pass as a Federation craft.

Good work, mate.
Texturing can be a really pain in the rear end, but once you have gotten used to a "standard operating procedure" you can easily reproduce the success you had with creating a set of texture and even refine it.

By the way: One should never ever underestimate the usefulness of the simple Paint program that comes with MS Windiows. It can make several "copy&paste" and simple editing much more easy than a full-blown image editing software like GIMP (which is wonderful for texture editing all by itself).

Hello:
I agree with everybody here, because you have indeed made a good job, I can say that because it get very tricky to texture that kind of round shapes.

You sure look like you'll have many good things to make and show in the near future  .

Keep it up!
