I'm familiar (as I'm sure many of you are) with the A2 error message "Out of memory: Increase swap file size" As far as I know, it's only caused by a missing " in an odf, techtree or AIP file.

I've just tried to load up my personal install for the first time in several weeks (exams and RL stuff has kept me from modding) and I only get the splash screen before the error message appears. Usually I get this error when testing something in the map editor, but I've not modded anything for a long while now, and the last time I opened my install I did not have this problem.

Any suggestions here, 'cos I'm stumped

Check the Dynamic_Localized_Strings file for a missing "," after one of the entries. All of the entires should have the following format.

Code:
"Race - Blah Blah - Ship[U]",[/U]
"Blah blah, blah blah blah. Blah blah blah blah.[U]",[/U]

This happened to me once. If it is not this, then I am unsure what else it could be.

Sorry TF no luck there, I swapped out my installs version of the DLS file with a stock, unedited copy and I'm still getting the error.

Can also be caused by errors in the DLS.h file and the events file, but your guess is as good(or better) as mine

Well after more hours than I'd care to admit reading line after line of coding, I finally tracked down the error to a missing ; in the ART_CFG file, though the computer says the file hasn't been modified since 2009, so what happened there I've no idea.

Anyway it's fixed now thankfully, cheers to all those that provided help/suggestions :)

Cheers guys :)

Yeah it's really odd, I have no idea how the file could have been edited since the last time I played, but at least it's working now. I've updated all my backups now as well, so I know I have a working copy if something else goes wrong.
