A Message from J. Michael Straczynski
In the very early days of shooting Babylon 5, around the first or second season, my agents at the time gifted me with a new desk for my home office, since I had pretty much pounded my other one into dust.
Although I would try to write as much as I could at the office, the distractions of meetings and dailies and running off to post-production meant that about ninety percent of my writing was done at home at this desk, which has been in my home for almost twenty years.
I have written literally thousands of pages of material at this desk, starting with several seasons worth of Babylon 5, then Crusade, Jeremiah (for Showtime); the movies Changeling, Thor, Underworld Awakening, Ninja Assassin andWorld War Z; and over 200 published comic books. It was also at this desk that I co-wrote the first batch of scripts for Sense8, the new TV series about to go into production for Netflix.
Having just purchased a spiffy new art deco desk, the question arose as to what to do with this desk, because it has both personal significance and, for a genre fan, historical value. Rather than hold onto it, I've decided to make it available here for fans of the genre, as a historical piece, or for nascent writers and/or their friends and families for inspirational/totemistic value.
I have signed and annotated the top of the desk with the following inscription:
At this desk, I wrote
Babylon 5, Crusade,
Jeremiah, Sense8,
Changeling, Thor,
World War Z,
and over two hundred
comics.
Go thou and do likewise.

This will be a relatively brief auction as this is currently being held at the offices we were using in Woodland Hills for the early stages of Joe's Comics, and we need to get it out of there before May 31, 2014. So whoever buys this must arrange to have it picked up from the office and shipped to wherever you want it shipped BEFORE May 31, 2014. I cannot emphasize that strongly enough.
Have at it....
