So I've replaced about 99% of the objects in my game and used the midnight universe mod to pretty everything up. I've done some slight code altering here in there in the RTS and ART_CFG files and such as well. I have an issue regarding 1 map so far that I don't remember being an issue in stock vanilla A2. It's the Death Snare map for 2 players and when the AI is in the lower left corner every race except 8472 will not build. The humanoid races send one construction ship to my side and try to build a mining station at my infinite dilithium moon instead of building one at theirs not 10 grids away.

I've modified my AI files, but can't for the life of me figure out why they won't build at this one location. If I switch locations with the AI they build fine in the upper right side. Anyone have any ideas?

How about putting back the original AI files and see if they will construct at their base. From what you have said it must be the AI. What have you done with the AI files?

I changed the build lists back to stock, but havne't gotten the chance to plug back the original AI files. I've altered some of the variables in the AIP files and the strategic_AI.cfg file experimenting with getting them to play better. See my AI thread on this site here:

Not sure if I did that properly, but it's in the Armada editing forum

Do you have it that they start with a base? Or do they only start with a construction ship. In A1 Superside, the AI used to always go to one corner of the map and build. So you used to have 3 AI's battling it out for one corner.

Well, I put all the original AI files back in place and the original RTS_CFG file, but no go. So I edited the original map in the map editor and moved the two planets further apart by a couple of grid squares and that seemed to work. It just didn't apparently have room enough to build. I never remembered that on a bone stock install? Strange.

I had to also edit the build lists and put the construction of the scout ship after the first yard because when it gets destroyed before the yard is built then the AI gets stuck and won't proceed. I always play with a starting starbase and a couple of ships on normal resources as well Majestic. I think this is the first time I've ever run into this exact issue in all these years. :)

Well A2 was released unfinished, much like Legacy was just not as bad imo. There have been issues and errors from day one, I think that is why so many of us mod FO these days as they have fixed a lot of these and improved the game vastly. I hate to sound like I am beating the FO wagon, but after 12 years with A2 one can find those little strange issues more than an annoyance.

Glad to hear you got it fixed.

It seems to me that a lot of games nowadays is being released unfinished. This is probably due to rushing it before the deadline or fan anticipation. I really would wish that all games are thoroughly tested and run though its paces before release. I believe that the community at large would really appreciate it.

That being said, kudos to the FO team for taking the time to revamp A2 and fixing those error plaguing modders since the beginning of time.

Anyway enough ranting and raving :)
