So they're cancelling one series just to make another?
Yep, and how stupid is that one may ask? Very.

The problem I see, is that they're rushing it. Atlantis easily has another 5 seasons left in it (making a total of 10). Now, like it has been said, they're dropping Atlantis for Universe (which will get either 5 or 10 seasons).

The problem then is what happens after Universe. Where do they go? SG-1 was based on Earth, and around our Galaxy. Atlantis is based upon the Pegasus galaxy. Universe is based throughout the entire Universe. What exactly is suppose to happen next?

Base a show around Ascension?

Seriously? They'd have been better off getting Atlantis finished on ten seasons, and then do the same with Universe AFTER. That way, you'd have three shows, all with 10 seasons, and if it did happen to end after Universe, it would show that they didn't leave anything out.

So we have finally found the real reason as to why Atlantis will end after 5 seasons, its because I said :
Based on other articles I have read, it may be a while, as it seems Atlantis has a lot of life left in it.:clap:
so its all my fault!:help:

I wonder... Was thinking about this.. We know that this ship is 'able' to travel the universe, or at the very least has been travelling the universe. I ponder whether the producers will work the show, so that the ship has actually stopped in a specific galaxy, unable to jump to the next (out of energy or something)? Thus the show would simply be another Galaxy based show.

Will be interesting too, to see how many Human-based races there are in Universe :lol:

I am looking forwars to Universe but not at the expense of Atlantis, as I said in the other thread the older series should gets its fair run. I just hope Universe stays in the one galaxy.

I doubt 'Universe' will stay in a single Galaxy. If they were going to do that, they might as well name it Stargate Galaxy.

My guess is, each season will be based in a different Galaxy. It'll take a year for the ship to 'do its job' in one Galaxy, before it jumps to the next. Every season we'll be faced with a big threat, of which will be dealt with by the end of that season, allowing us to go onto the next.

I fear this may become a little... boring.

Very true, they've done fantastic work so far in moving from SG-1 to Atlantis, while still linking the 2 nicely and adding DVD movies as well, if we have a little faith in the developers I'm sure they'll come through for us again. :)

*Ends optimistic speech* :p

Both SG-1 and Atlantis have been good. Granted we've had the odd **** episode, but all in all, has been good.

Just a shame they're getting rid of Atlantis so soon.

More info,

not sure if its been said, but thought id post it here anyway.

i found this on Gateworld it describes bettert he premise of the series.

After unlocking the mystery of the Stargate's ninth chevron, a team of explorers travels to an unmanned starship called the Destiny, launched by the Ancients at the height of their civilization as a grand experiment set in motion, but never completed.

What starts as a simple reconnaissance turns into a never ending mission, as the Stargate Universe crew discovers the ship is unable to return to Earth, and they must now fend for themselves aboard the Destiny.

The crew will travel to the far reaches of the universe, connecting with each of the previously launched Stargates, thus fulfilling the Destiny's original mission. Challenges will arise though as the ship comes into range of Stargates placed centuries ahead of the Destiny and the crew is unable to control the ship's navigational schedule. If someone is left behind, there is no way to go back for them, adding to the drama of encountering new races, enemies and adventures

also, information on teh new team!

Colonel Everett Young
40's handsome, capable, former SG team leader. Like the Jack O'Neill of ten years ago, but Young's edges have tended to sharpen over time. He requested permission to serve the remainder of his commission on Earth upon marrying his wife, Hailey, two years ago, but for now he's temporary commander of a secret off world base. The loss of two members of his team several years ago has taught him never to take anything for granted, and be prepared for anything. He stays on top of his team so they stay alive. STAR NAMES ONLY. SERIES REGULAR;

Tamara Jon
20-25, all ethnicities (Asian Preferably). SGC Field medic, Captain grade. Off world experience. Beautiful, tough, smart, capable. Paramedic level training. Able to triage serious injury. Modest background. Dreamed of being a doctor but couldn't afford medical school and the Air Force was her best option. She ends up being the most medically inclined person on the ship but is overwhelmed by the lack of knowledge and experience treating seriously wounded and ill patients. She also lacks the medicine and supplies and has to make do. SERIES REGULAR;

Chloe Carpenter
20ish. Stunning and sexy. Daughter of a U.S. Senator. Silver spoon upbringing and a little spoiled but not stupid either. Politically and socially savvy. Dreams of following in her father's footsteps but for now she's a bit of a party girl in her first year at an Ivy League school. Her father's tragic death and the dire circumstances of being trapped on a spaceship seriously tests her character. SERIES REGULAR;

Eli Hitchcock
20-25. Total slacker. Utter genius. Mathematics, computers, anything he puts his mind to. Acerbic sense of humor. A social outcast. Comes from a broken home. Lacks confidence because his true intelligence has never really been recognized like Matt Damon's character from Good Will Hunting with a little Jack Black thrown in sptv050769. SERIES REGULAR;

Lt. Jared Nash
20-25. Junior S.G.C. team member. Officer material but green and rough around the edges. Every teenage girl's fantasy. Like a college quarterback thrown into his first pro game, he is thrust into the role of leader well before he's ready for the responsibility and must learn to take command, earn respect through action, and manage the diverse personalities on the ship to keep everyone alive. Like Jason Bourne, he is skilled and well-trained however he is mentally unprepared for the urgency of the situation. SERIES REGULAR;

Ron "Psycho" Stasiak
20, all ethnicities. Marine. Big, strong, silent. You want him on your side. You don't want him mad at you. Lacks control over his temper in non combat situations. His past is a mystery but it's clear something dark formed the hard shell around him. Yet, there must also be some moral center because otherwise he'd kill everyone around him. Think Eric Bana's character "Hoot" in Blackhawk Down. SERIES REGULAR

Robert Carlye has joined the cast of Universe.

He plays Dr David Rush:
Cult - News - Carlye signs for 'Stargate Universe' - Digital Spy
"Stargate series creators Brad Wright and Robert Cooper said: "We are very excited about having an actor of this calibre, around which we can build a strong, character-based series.

"Robert Carlyle will engage a broad audience and we hope to deliver a show that demonstrates to new viewers that the loyalty of longtime fans of the Stargate franchise has been well-deserved.""

Can't believe I'm saying this but I think it would have been nice if they went with a full time female commander, or failing that perhaps a commander from another nation's military...

And what use is a 'party girl' on an ancient space ship? I think they need to rethink some of their character prelim's just a bit...

it would be very nice to see a 'hard' chick in the 'team' lead (not like that pathetic school ma'am they found for voyager), they did after all have a lot of success with Sam?

but am I the only one who is wondering about the dating of the pitch for this, and thinking that perhaps it was originally done at the time BSG was at it's height?

a lone ship, lost in a galaxy far far away, trying to find it's way back to that fabled gem they call Earth....

hey still, we'll give them a chance whatever they come up with.... (just as long as no idiot says the word techno-mage...)

Technomage!!! :p

as i'm pretty much obsessed with anything science fiction. i'm glad that a new series is coming out.

i recently got my family into stargate. (did the same with BSG. and if i'm lucky i'll get them into Babylon 5.)

unfortunately. i haven't been following SG1/SGA as closely as i would have liked. (seen a few episodes of both. but not enough for my liking)

i'll have to catch up.

The good news though is that BSG is ending too, so hopefully too many connections won't be drawn/followed...

And I'm with you there, they need another char like Sam around...

Yeah, but that's getting far too wishful I think, besides, they'd have to put her in charge and I think they're less likely to do that than even just having her on the show...

I figure at best she'll do a guest appearance for the pilot...

I completely agree. Looks to be quite good, though I can't help feeling they're trying to emulate BSG in some way...

What I wanna' to know is how they'll explain their inability to gate to Earth. Afterall, a couple of ZPM's would do it; and they could probably send a couple...

Plus (placed in spoiler tags for people who can't see the trailer or who don't want to watch it) -

No SGC? What's happened there, some sort of disaster? Plus, were those death gliders?

I'd guess that Sky would pick it up in either late October or January. With the break that American telly seems to have about then they could run it continuously. Either way, it shouldn't be too long before we see it (I'll have my HD box in by then as well)
