One way to get Star Trek back out there. In my opinion, it has lay dormant for far too long. My only quibble, like what has already been said, is that they're going back to the past.

I'd conclude now, that with this new cast and what not, they're going to try their run with the TOS movies (or reworks of them, whatever). If we're lucky, we'll even get a series out of it (counting my luck here, eh)?

I think they should have finished off Picard and the Ent-E first though, either have her decomissioned, or destroyed. I don't think they've finished TNG off yet.

I see nothing wrong with going back in the past myself personally, but they shouldn't had done the Enterprise again and should have done another TOS ship like the Lexington or something, not the Enterprise.

I also not a fan of the overall design of the ship and it's interiors I would have much rathered Madkiofish's design as it keeps true to TOS but also is updated to todays technology.

Lastly I think it's the job of every true Star Trek fan to go and see this movie and support it, regardless if they like the idea of the movie or not. As If this movie and the sequel for that matter that has already been in production for a little while fails I doubt there will be another Star Trek for quite sometime. They will eventually with enough talk by the fans go back to the other series and finish them off movie wise, as long as they get a possitive responce in terms of viewings and ratings from fans with this new movie.

Personally I think this move was about the very best thing that could have happened to Trek. I am a fan of the original crew's films and I was entertained by TOS, although it was a bit hokey for me.

I generally liked TNG, although it wasn't dramatic enough nor was the action really exciting...oh man did I get sick of seeing those recycled Bird of Prey shots pummeling the Ent-D again and again.

DS9 I generally dislike with a passion. Only saving grace was that Sisko is a cool captain and Dax was smoking. Everything else yuck.

Hated Voy I found entertaining, and the closest thing to TOS although they constantly overexaggerated things. But I found their crew the most tolerable, captain aside, of the post-TOS crews. And their finale was actually exciting versus "All Good Things" and the DS9 one which had a promising first part and dull second.

Ent was ok mixed with meh. I like Sam Beckett (Scott Bakula in Quantum Leap fyi) as much as the next scifi fan but I don't think he made a good captain tbh.

In any case I think it really isn't Trek without the Enterprise: I love hearing the old intro of "Space, the final frontier...these are the continuing voyages of the starship Enterprise". As for the design I think she looks great, a hybrid of TOS conny and TMP conny, I really dig it a lot. The only thing I dislike about the new movie is they went with those horrible TOS shirt uniforms.

But if the absolute worldwide reviews are any indication, Abrams has revitilized and redifined Trek in a way no one thought possible. Most Trekkie and non-Trekkie alike that have seen it can't praise it enough particularly where everyone thought it would fail: the story is extremely strong and the cast has proven itself more than worthy of their characters.

Yeah time travel is old and cliched, but even that is used in a way that services the story instead of being the focus of it and just has that fancy rewind button at the end that makes everything back the way it's "supposed" to be. BAH! I think it's awesome this movie rewrites history and is unapologetic about it! I think it's awesome to hear we are getting at some point a new incarnation of the events of Space Seed and Wrath of Khan while still having the originals to watch if I want! And most of all, no freaking Star Trek Generations with the Nexus of joy and lame dead Kirk which is about the same as if they kill off Optimus in Transformers 2...wrong, wrong, wrong.

Trek has been stagnating for years now, becoming duller and duller. Sure every episode is a public service announcement of the week, but the magic has all about faded and gone. Trek forgot the cardinal rule that while you can have important messages every single time, you need to also entertain and motivate, you need things like strong character development and storylines, you need to move people and awe them. For this see Babylon 5's arc and cast which surpasses any of Trek's easily.

I'm thrilled with what JJ and crew have accomplished and I can't wait for next week's official opening!

I am planning on seeing the new Star Trek on Sunday. I can't wait! What I would like to see is stories from The Lost Era series of books to come to the big screen. One thing in particular I would absolutely LOVE to see is where the Enterprise C went to protect the Klingon outpost from the Romulans. I am certain I am not the only one.

That would have actually been a good idea, if they did Kirk's early years on the Lexington or something. The only problem with that, is that you wouldn't have the whole crew in the film (which was one of the points).

I hope they include the Klingon's in this new 2011 film. It has been a while since the Klingon's were the bad guys, they can't really do them with TNG movies, because they are practically allies of the Federation.

Or maybe some pre-TOS Cardassians?

Cardassian drinks are mentioned in the movie so we know they are around. Klignons imo were done to death before, I find it refreshing that they weren't the villains here. Even though you do see their D-7s.

I don't mind if the Klingons are the next villains but I am definately looking forward to the return of Khan. Rewriting Kirk and Khan's first meeting might be very interesting, especially if they somehow manage a mix between "Space Seed" and ST2. I doubt they will give Khan 2 movies or wait 15 years before having them cross paths again, so Khan's storyline will probably run through 1 film. Hmm, that Miranda would sure make a nice opponent for the Enterprise.

I think the way the movie handled the reasons why the crew got together early like that worked out pretty well. I'm just glad we're staying in this new timeline.

I really like everything about this new alternate era: from the technology to the reenvisioned cast/characters.

And the best part is that original Spock is now in this new timeline also so he can continue to appear in future movies building a new world for Vulcans.

I can't wait to see the next one!

I really don't believe we'll be seeing older Spock in any new movies, his appearance in the XI one, was probably for both continuity, and to have a familiar face. They'd be no need for him anymore.

Aerilon, remember to put such things in spoilers. - Borg_Queen

Since the time line has been officially been altered, they could write it to where another ship finds Khan and he succeeds in taking it over and then Kirk must hunt him down.

I don't think that would work b/c the one thing that made that battle so epic was Khan's hatred for Kirk. Space battles are cool but the best battles are when its personal.

Agreed and quoted for truth. However...

They could have it that that cadet that didn't like Kirk is Kahn and somehow gets a ship. I'd hate it if they did that but it is a possibility.

Otherwise I don't know how they could do it...
