• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Okay, so you say you are familiar with Star Trek? Always get the correct answer to the odd trivia question? Laugh when someone makes an inside joke about TOS and then spend twenty minutes explaining it to others? Well then, good! This is the place for you to show off a little for the rest of us.

Da Rules (Rules? Why spoil it with rules?)

1) We will use the strictest possible definition of 'Canon' Star Trek here. If it is not in a TOS series television aired episode then it is not canon. Material from comics, proposed series, alternate screenplays, paperbacks, films, websites, fan fiction, TAS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, or any type of game is not allowed to be used. Anyone caught breaking this rule will be roundly booed, awarded a Red Shirt, and placed in the next Landing Party.

2) Maximum of two questions per challenge. Winner must answer both questions correctly. Posting the answer to only one allows the challenger to reset the questions as soon as he/she becomes aware of the posting of a partial answer. Winner gets to post the next challenge.

2a.) No hints. Ever. Hinting is the same as answering for someone. If you are as knowledgable about Star Trek as you claim to be, you should not need a hint anyway.

3) Staff and Admin of MSFC are the final judges on challenges and answers. Appeals for adjudication will be made to them, not the challenger. At any time, they can adjust or terminate this thread without prior notice for any reason they see fit. This does not disqualify them from participating here.

4) This thread is intended to be fun first and foremost. Please keep this in mind at all times when participating. If it stops being fun, I would ask the Admins to lock this thread and/or remove it, please.

Okay, everybody ready? Good! Couple of easy ones to lead off.

1) Who is Edith Keeler?

2) What was the name of the character played by John Colicos?

BONUS if you can name the episode he appeared in and the race of the character.

Edith Keeler was a human of the 20th century.
She was a political activist and tried to stop the US participation in WW2. In her default timeline, she'd been killed in a car accident.
BUT: because James Kirk had been sent backward in time by the Guardian of Time (or sth like that) he saved her, not knowing about the ramifications of Edith Keelers survival (She was succesful in her political campaign, the US did not enter WW2 in Europe and Hitler won the war... yeah, if the US hadn't intervened, Hitler would still have been defeated, yet Europe would probably be Soviet territory, but that is another discussion).

As for John Colicos, he played the first Klingon to appear on TV. I guess his name was Kor.

Klingons RULE!

BTW: I edited the thead title.

Outstanding! Thank you for editing the thread title as well. Upon reflection, my challenge may have been a little too easy, hahaha. I'll do better next time. But where are your questions?

I suggest we do this as in the "Name that Quote"-thread. The one who posted the questions has to verify that the answers that have been given, are correct.

Okay, here's a hard one :D

Which episode of TOS was never aired in Germany?

The episode is "Patterns of Force". The reason is because it is against German law to display NSDAP uniforms, symbols, or regalia.

That is correct, my friend.

Actually, you can display such uniforms etc here. "Downfall" is a German movie and features all of that, for example. You are just not allowed to wear Nazi symbols and uniforms (barring Wehrmacht uniforms... German military uniform is still based on the Wehrmacht dresscode)
The episode was not aired, because the German TV station that was running Star Trek at that time did not want to confront the viewers with this episode.
How the German public reflected and reflects WWII is another topic, though ;)

But you are right! "Patterns of Force" is that episode.

EAS_Intrepid. Vielen Dank! When I was in US Army Europe in the Eighties, we were given a listing of things which we could not possess/use. Anything even remotely related to the Nazis was on this list and we soldiers were told it was against the law to display these things. I could only go with what I knew.

On to the challenge!

What government did the individual known as Balak represent?
