http://startrekrenegades.com/

It has been seven long years since Enterprise left the air, and though we’ve had the recent big screen adaptation of Gene Roddenberry’s futuristic vision (and the sequel coming next year), we feel the true home of Star Trek is as a continuing episodic series. The goal of this project is to make that happen.

We, the team who brought you Star Trek: Of Gods and Men, are proud to announce Star Trek: Renegades, a professionally produced television pilot to be presented for a possible online series.

And the best part is – YOU can play an important role in making this happen!

We’ve just launched a 60-day funding drive on kickstarter.com – the premiere funding platform on the web for creative projects. At kickstarter, every project is all-or-nothing funding, supported by friends, fans, and the public in return for rewards. It’s a no-risk situation – if we don’t reach our funding goal within the 60-day time period, you don’t pay!

For as little as a $10 pledge, you can help us produce this new Star Trek project! And every single pledge receives a reward, from exclusive access to online content, to DVDs or Blu-Rays, to limited edition t- shirts, leather jackets, visits to the set – even walk-on roles in the film! You can just watch from a distance or even become involved in the production as an associate producer. The stars are the limit!

It looks like a very interesting concept, and with the people they have involved, I hope it is done well.

If it's anything like Of Gods and Men the it will be a fantastic production. For those who aren't a fan of JJ Abrams Trek then this is the Trek for them and worth really supporting.

Of Gods and Men was a fine fanmade film, but I'm not sure how a whole series would manage with the same technology and not-always-so-professionalism. Although it will be definitely better than anything Abramsverse can produce :D

I agree that Of Gods and Men had a bit of an unprofessional feel to it, but I suspect that it was a learning experience for many of the involved. If such be the case, then Renegades should improve where Of Gods and Men was lacking. Of course, there will be limits on how much can be done with a smallish budget.. kinda how it All started though, an inexperienced cast with a small budget, but a great idea. I'm looking forward to what will come of this production. So, I got my slice on kickstarter :)

For a project totally funded by fans and the actors donating their time for free, I think Star Trek Of Gods and Men was a great production. We as fans must accept that we aren't going to get the top quality of the series and official movies as fans and the actors simply don't have that budget.

In the first few days of this new project's kickstarter, they have made over $70,000 US, I think that is an achievement in itself. I look forward to seeing what they can do with this new project of theirs.

I have issues with streaming longer videos on my connection, so I'm downloading it from Youtube right now. Takes longer, but it's less frustrating than having to pause over and over.

Sounds like it was pretty good though eh?

It's a lot better than I was expecting to be honest. Not quite Trek - it actually reminded me a bit of Farscape - obviously high end fan work, but entertaining enough and reasonably polished.

The Goods: A different take on Trek, reasonably good acting, reasonably good visual effects (aside from the flames in the opening sequence), reasonable storyline (albeit with a few leaps and holes), mostly interesting characters.

The Bads: The yellow walls!!! Not a fan of the uniforms or the Archer bridge. The plot manages to fall into the usual rut and again there's the same old problem of introducing yet another alien race as the bad guys. The use of the (magic) portals. Some pointless (and badly timed) character development that should have been fitted in elsewhere. Probably too many character introductions for the length of episode. And as for Icheb, worst character in my opinion. And did I mention the yellow walls?!!!

The Indifferents: The Icarus, I quite like the design but she's way too advanced for a pirate ship (and I'd have called her the Invictus as Icarus has no real connection that I could see) and she looks like she's begging to be MVAM'd.

Overall, I'd say it's on par with most Crusade episodes, and no worse than most other sci-fi pilot episodes. I'd be interesting in seeing them go further with this.

Do you have a link? I hate streaming and I also have issues with longer videos.

Two methods. One is a site called Keepvid DL that works fairly well. The other is the program JDownloader. I just put the link in the program and it gives me a breakdown on what I can download.

Well I just watched it. I liked it overall and I had to keep reminding myself it is a fan production.

It isn't what I would have done or the direction I would had taken it but overall it was good and something a little different which is always a bonus.

As far as Icheb, I liked the direction they took the character. Again maybe not where I would have taken him but it's different to the books where he is in the Academy.

News of them producing a series now with Chekov appearing in at least the first 2 episodes will be good to see. Might not be as good as I am expecting Axanar to be, but it's different and new and worth the watch. I think I'll donate to this project, when some funds become available to me, just to give it some support.

Hello:
Lots of people are talking about Renegades. I was given the link the moment it was released in Youtube by my friend Epytron_Omega, and another friend, Apoclaydon/Blade wants me to watch it too :D .

Very interesting how they have actors from movies and tv shows to participate.

But I might not check this topic often until I watch the movie, to avoid spoilers :D .

Finally got a chance to watch it too. I did enjoy it. It is definitely a different direction from what we are used to.

Also, we can add the Icarus and Archer to the ship request thread....

Watched it last night...for fan movie pretty good :) However in some scenes acting could be better...and of course there is still room for improvment...I can't wait for sequel...
But now, does this moive belong to canon of Star Trek??

I re-watched it again the other day, I just wanted a better copy and see what I missed the first time around.

Much like with Matt Smith as Doctor Who, I enjoyed it much more the second time around, as the first I had mixed feelings.

I am intrigued where they'll take this production, I do hope that future episodes will focus more on the Icarus and it's crew and less on Starfleet Command. I felt Starfleet Command's sets could have been done better as well as the Archer's interior. They look CGI which isn't the issue, but they didn't feel right compared to what we have seen in the series. I also wasn't a fan of the Archer's design, I would have much rather seen a established design to cement it a little more with Trek lore.

Corin Nemec did well as Captain Alvarez, although I feel he didn't get enough screen time. I do hope he appears in later episodes as the main adversary of the Icarus and her crew. I always liked him as Jonas Quinn in SG1 and felt he is a good actor and just hasn't been given enough screen time or enough work in sci-fi.

I am hoping more about Lexxa Singh's background will be uncovered in future episodes as I found her an interesting character. It was implied and even stated once (in the jail fight) that she is descendant of Khan Nonnian Singh so I am rather curious about that.

I feel Icheb's anger about what has happened to him after Voyager's return was well done. I liked seeing him as an adult and how his plan to join Starfleet didn't pan out. I think I like him way more in this than I did in Voyager or even the novels. My only regret is that he and Tuvok didn't have some form of dialogue during the pilot, a missed opportunity there. I am also hoping something, whether a friendship or something deeper might develop between him and Ronara. I think how she wants to help and how he wants her to "stay out of my head" could add an element of complication and conflict within the crew. Not that there isn't a lot of conflict within the pilot but with the Bajoran and Cardassian both dead they'll need to keep that conflict going to keep it interesting.

I could go on, but I am glad they did it the way they did for the most part. I am also liking how different it is to what we've seen of Axanar. I didn't what two of the same or similar productions leading the charge in Trek fan films. The fact of how different they seem to be is a breath of fresh air.

But now, does this moive belong to canon of Star Trek??

Being a fan production, the answer would be no.

As i liked "Of Gods And Men" I thought it was as good as that. And in my "unofficial" Cannon, they both fit in their respective places. Because of the actors involved. Axanar will fall into this category as well. :)

I've seen it a couple times, very impressive. And while I know Part 2 had to have all Trek-related references stripped from it, is there a release date for it?
