Every hero needs a villain...

I name this ship, the IKS Greeble! The design has a lot of physical detail built in, so I've had to make a lot of decisions as to what to model and what to leave to master Jetfreak. Anyway, I hope this is a reasonable compromise. My guess is she'll be around 3k polies when in A2, so not too bad.

Next up, uv mapping... not looking forward to that task!

Thank you all. Probably be a couple of weeks before I get to map it though.

I liked the 'Prelude to Axanar' - the documentary style was awesome, and i love the number of past star trek actors involved.... though JG Hertzler will always be Martok to me lol.

I'm the same Knight, seeing him anything but Klingon is hard to get used to, even though he has played a Vulcan and Shapeshifter in DS9 as well.

Does that make me popular on Facebook? Nooooooooo!!!!!! :cry2:
As long as you congratulated Jetfreak too, it's his image after all.

Ooh, that's cool! The opening sequence looks like something right out of a trek game, though. It reminds me of the A2 intro.

Wow, that series sure is interesting. I just saw that they even did an episode on the Brinok. I'm definitely going to watch some more of these.

That's the series where I got the orthos for the D6.

23 days, $330,640 raised (132%), 11 days left - stretch target #1 achieved.

So this round closed at $475,466, 189% funded which means the first stretch target ($330k) was met, but just short of the second target ($500k).

I think they are on a good road personally. It's going to be something really significant. I can't wait to see them release it.

Yeah, I'm glad that they're moving forward strong, despite the naysayers, of which there have been a fair few. Can't wait till they hit production later this year!

The ships look amazing. Still I think the D-6 looks more like the successor instead of the predecessor of the D-7. This issue arose in the series "enterprise". Parts of the vessel looked very like those of ships dating about 200 years later.

Yeah, the exterior looked too much like the Akira. The interior was spot on, though, with they hybrid NASA space capsule and submarine look. It still looks more advanced than the original series sets, but there's not much that wouldn't, short of building the bridge out of cardboard and string.

To be fair with the D6 it was almost a kitbash of the Klingon ships used in Enterprise in the shape of a D7, so they did try. I personally think (having spent a while working on a D6) that the D7 looks more modern by virtue of its cleaner lines... except of course that after the D7 they went greeble mad on any later ships.

Although it's obvious that this is kind of the point of a post, I'll say that what follows is highly opinionated. That being said, Axanar is way bad@$$ so far, and anyone who says otherwise is wrong and therefore has earned my infinite scorn (trollface, j/k). I honestly have to say that I kinda liked the first Abrams movie, not because it's a 'Star Trek' movie, but from more of a visceral angle: I pretty much liked the action and nothing more. But this first scene of Axanar is way better as far as Star Trek goes. Even if it doesn't put a great deal of focus on CGI trillion-poly 8K textured ships and planets and such, it's still more Star Trek than I've seen from any of the movies in recent times. And that's really the point to me: for it to be a <=Star Trek=> movie above everything else. But, you know what they say: difference strokes for different folks. Personally, I love how this looks. It's a bit more gritty and realistic than what I've seen out of Star Trek lately, and that's all I can really ask for.

Additionally, I like the smilies here.

That's the problem going back in time in the Trek universe. Due to the technology we have now compared to the 1960's it's hard to make a ship look less advanced than the classics. As you pointed out we had that with Enterprise. Seriously I think a CGI revamp of TOS bringing the class designs more up to date with today's standards would do wonders.

In my own ENT work I have tried to make the ships look less advanced but still fit in with the ENT timeline.

The D6 has become one of my favourites and is actually a kitbash of sorts of the D5 from ENT and the D7 from TOS as KJC pointed out. I think it works for what they were after. :D

You mean like that Constitution concept that someone made while the '09 movie was in production? This one, I think.

Something like that or even making just minor changes from the original, so it's still the TOS more or less but modified to look more modern and will still fit in with both ENT and the later series and movies.

I loved the way they did it. Prelude was very well done. If this is what we can expect from Axanar, then this is going into my gotta have it file. :) There is one Connie out there (I use it more than any of my others) byMadkoifish (rushedart on DA) that still stand tall above the rest (with the exception of the original of course). It is well detailed and looks great. Kroener's comes in a close second. :)

I think the people behind Axanar do a great job. I do hope they succeed.
