• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

A Kitbash? But it's a pretty decent ship anyway. All those hull elements point to a TLE era ship.

The Evanescence looks mighty fine against that backdrop SciFiFan, I like ^_^

Looks good. really good. good enough to make me wonder if my laptop would be able to run the game, and to make me consider buying it.

I hold you both responsible for this turn of events lol, id already decided not to bother because of the ugly ships.

Look forward to more :)

I had the same thought when it first came out. I had a couple of guys at work bug me about the game. I finally bought it and I was impressed. Just so you get a general idea, when you start a out, you are in command of a light cruiser. It automatically sticks you in a Miranda. Then once you get to starbase, you get to pick between the Miranda, Centaur, or Shi'kar (ugly) or a kitbash of any of the three. The Evanescence has Centaur hull and nacelles with Miranda struts and pylons.

Thank you very much! The game is full of eye candy.

I think it gives you the stock Centaur if you're Science, stock Miranda if you're Tactical, and stock Shi'kar if you're Engineering. As far as I remember anyway, it's been a while since I've done the tutorial, which is the only time I've had a stock ship...

But yes, I strongly encourage people to give the STO demo a shot, the game has come a long way since it's come out, but it does still have a ways to go before its really great. All MMO's start this way though, WoW was no different, Warhammer Online wasn't, City of Heroes, etc... Give it a shot, tis all I ask. :)

My character is in the engineering field and I started with a Miranda. Anyways, if we get enough MSFC members on there, we could start a fleet. They only have the Federation and Klingons as the playable clans. They are gonna add more though.

Ah ok, so I guess it's stock Shi'kar for Tac and the Miranda for Engineers then.

that stargazer somehow looks less good than it did on the forum. I am sorely tempted to get the game. Downloading the demo to see what its like

Well my 'Stargazer' is a kitbash of all the Heavy Cruisers, the Cheyenne, Dakota, and actual Stargazer. That could explain why.

might well do. Unfortunately my download of the demo keeps timing out around the 40% mark for some unknown reason.

Oh well. Looking at the specs, im not sure if my video capability could handle it (I'm leaning towards not), and I know I can't currently afford Ă‚ÂŁ15 a month to play sadly. Might look into it some other time, as it looks fun, but I think a better PC will be a must first.

Last I checked it was about $30AU here, which with the exchange rate as it is is around $35US at the moment.

To buy it or just for the monthly sub? Cuz that sounds about right for straight buying it...

Monthly subscription, to buy it, I think it was like $70AU.

Now you know why I haven't got the game, I can't afford that with all my other expenses including the site.

Yeah but I also have the philosophy that if you buy a game you shouldn't have to continuing paying for it to play. It would be totally different if the game was free but you'd have to pay to play it.

I think game companies don't realise or care that some people have a hard enough time to put food on the table and pay everyday living expenses, so how could they afford to pay a monthly subscription to play an online game.

But the game does look good and I will continue enjoying see you guys posting screenshots.

Ă‚ÂŁ30 for the game, Ă‚ÂŁ10.34 a month to play here.
Much as I love the look of the game, I cant justify paying that much a month to keep playing a game it'd be costing me money to buy in the first place. Online play should be free, but im ok with extra content being chargeable (for example new ships etc), thats only fair. But charging to play on a monthly basis is bad, especially at that much a month.

Which is a shame, because im dying to play lol

Great shots though ScifiFan - im still loving seeing the game!

I was looking at a couple of other configurations for the tier 2 cruiser the other day. Somehow I ended up buying the hull for the Excalibur class. I did not want it but, I did not have the money to fix it. With that said, I must admit, the Excalibur hull does not look as bad with the Constitution neck. I have since re-designated the Concord to the Ticonderoga.

screenshot_2010-06-01-14-57-05.jpg

We have received new orders from Starfleet Command. The Ticonderoga is to proceed to Regulus IV to oversee security for a peace summit between the Federation and the Klingon Empire.

screenshot_2010-06-02-20-51-47.jpg

We have arrived at Regulus IV only to find that we are unable to hail the planet's surface. We are setting course to the Regulus Communications Array to find out what the problem is.

screenshot_2010-06-02-20-53-27.jpg

As we approach the Array, sensors picked up several Orion Syndicate ships. They appear to have tapped into the array's signal to boost their jamming signal. My crew is preparing the ship for battle, and themselves, for the uncertainty of tomorrow.

Sweetness, their Excalibur seems to be a mix of a myriad of ships. I can see elements of the Sovereign, JJPrise and even the Asia Class lol.

Also, is K7 really that big?

K7 isn't that big really, if anything I'd have to say it's to scale in the show.

you would have thought Starfleet would have put a new station to put in place of K7 after all those years. it must be falling apart and suffering massive systems failures!

You'd think. If I recall stations are left in service a lot longer than ships, so if a ship has a 100 year lifespan going by the Miranda and Excelsior a starbase would have around a 200-300 year lifespan. Well that's what I think anyway.

Sounds logical. A station is probably easier to perform system upgrades and repairs on as well I would imagine

To a certain point, yes. :) If a station is near an asteroid field with mineral resources then yeah, I'd imagine any upgrades and repairs are fairly easy.

All the beauty shots of our ships; here is something different.

With repairs already underway, Ticonderoga limps on to complete her mission.

Yeah...thats what happens when you perform the Riker Maneuver to get an upper hand on your enemy and you are too close.

I was fighting a K't'inga battle cruiser surrounded by disruptor turrets.
