The good news is they are going to finish out the season. All this means is that if there is an 11th season, it won't be on the Sci-Fi channel.

When I first read you post, Zztony, I beileved that they wouldn't be showing the rest of the season 10 and nearly had a conniption/heart attack/stroke... thing.

Thanks Harrie, you just made my day a little better, so SG-1 will still go on if another channel picks it up, thats better news.

This is from Gateworld.net
" Don't count Stargate SG-1 out just yet. Though SCI FI Channel has cancelled the long-running series (story), the show's producers are hard at work looking for a new outlet for the story to continue, executive producer Robert C. Cooper told GateWorld exclusively."

The petition has already been posted Zztony.

Thanks for giving us a heads up on the news. I am still hopeful that the top guns of SG-1 manage to find another channel/network to continue the series.

I got a reply from MGM

Hello,

My name is Majestic and I have been a fan of Stargate SG-1 since the first episode, I live in Australia so don't get to see the most up to date episodes. I have only just seen Season 9 by buying the DVD box set like I have on the release date of every SG-1 season DVD box set since season 1.

When I first heard of the cancellation I thought it was a joke played by a few people on the net, but as the news spread I releazed that it was for true. Stargate SG-1 is one of the only good Science Fiction shows still being produced, there is a severe lack of them over the last few years with shows like the old Sliders, Farscape and Star Trek no longer on the air or being produced.

As you may of already of guessed I am a huge fan of the series and have been since the series start. I believe you will lose alot of customers by cancelling the series, there are many international fans that watch the series not just Americans.

If the series to too expensive to have on TV, perhaps a straight to DVD show could be a acceptable alternative.

There are currently peditions on the web that you may be unaware of.

Despite the lower ratings than the last few season (According to some its due to the shows move to a different timeslot) there is still a large fan base, every show needs time to get its footing and season 9 is kind of like a new series as it has new characters and a new enemy and a new storyline.

Please feel free to contact me if you wish to know more or what a view from a fan.

I would like to thank you for your time in reading this and hope it makes a difference in the shows future.

If SG-1 does continue it will not be on television according to Sci Fi:
http://www.gateworld.net/news/2006/08/mgm_considers_isg-1is_future.shtml
"MGM considers SG-1's future

Saturday - August 26, 2006 | by Darren Sumner

Franchise owner MGM is exploring its options for Stargate SG-1 after its cancellation this week -- but SCI FI says TV isn't one of them.

"We don't look at Stargate SG-1 as a TV show, but a franchise," MGM spokesman Jeff Pryor told Multichannel News. "It is our intention to vigorously find a find way to extend the franchise."

Fans have speculated this week that that could mean an SG-1 feature film, TV movie, mini-series ... or even Season Eleven on another network. U.S. cable networks such as SpikeTV and G4 have been expanding their original and science fiction programming, and former SG-1 home Showtime may be open the series again following its five years of great success on basic cable.

But such a move may be out of the question, if SCI FI Channel has anything to say about it. "There is not going to be [an 11th season] on U.S. television," Mark Stern, SCI FI's executive vice president of programming, told Multichannel flatly. "Our contract with MGM prohibits it."

"It's done a great job, rejuvenated with the additions of Ben [Browder], Claudia [Black] and Beau [Bridges], but we think we've come to the end of those stories," Stern said. "We really felt like it was the right time to segue out, for the show not to overstay its welcome."

Reruns of Stargate SG-1 will continue on SCI FI following the spring 2007 finale.

He added that the network "would look for opportunities for some or all of the members to appear on Atlantis." Whether SCI FI hopes to replace some Atlantis regulars with SG-1 regulars, or simply bring SG-1 cast members in for occasional guest appearances, is not known.

Meanwhile, cast member Michael Shanks ("Daniel Jackson") has been the first to comment publically on the cancellation, telling Michael Shanks online, "Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. But I look at it as the closing of a chapter, not the whole story."

Executive producer and series co-creator Brad Wright told TV Guide that his "dream is to take SG-1 back to the feature it began as" -- but, more realistically, the show may segue into TV movies and, eventually, a third television series. "There's absolutely no reason in the world there couldn't be and won't be another series that takes part in the Stargate universe," he said.

Wright said that the final episodes of SG-1's current season "should be a very satisfying end to the season, but not necessarily an end to SG-1 by any means."

SCI FI would be interested in more Stargate SG-1 "if MGM came to us for less," Stern said -- indicating that the licensing fee for the 10-year-old show may have played a significant role in the network's decision not to renew it. Stern was previously quoted as saying that the show's depressed summer ratings were not the (sole) reason for the decision.

But if U.S. television is not an option (apart from a mini-series or TV movie on SCI FI), what might MGM be considering?

Pryor told the Associated Press that MGM believes that "in this new media world there are many more opportunities to continue (the) franchise. We're exploring those possibilities." Some fans have speculated that MGM may hope to make Stargate SG-1's eleventh season the first show ever to be offered exclusively online. New episodes from the current season are now available for $1.99 each on iTunes.

Despite the show's lower ratings, nearly 2 million viewers still tune in to the venerable sci-fi hit. The show also airs to millions of viewers in 120 countries worldwide, earns the company extra money in U.S. syndication and on DVD, and supports fan conventions and a broad array of licensed merchanise.

"This is not the end of the 'Stargate' franchise," Pryor said. "This is just the end of (Stargate SG-1) airing on the SCI FI Channel.""

Hear how the Cast Reacts to Cancellation News on HypaSpacePosted

Canada`s HypaSpace program on Space Channel aired a nice segment on the cast and crew`s reaction to SG-1 not being renewed by Sci Fi for an 11th season. Interviewed are Michael Shanks, Chris Judge, Ben Browder, Claudia Black, and Peter DeLuise. Interspersed with the interviews are scenes from filming a Season 10 episode that are quite amusing. BenBrowderPortal.com has the video up for downloading (it’s 32MB) — download Hypaspvideo here.

Ok this may help the email approach!
Email BBC to acquire SG1 rights, commission episodes

The BBC is a public corporation funded by a licence fee levied against the UK’s TV owners. As a public body, it has a legal and ethical obligation to diversity in its programming and serving the needs of its national community of licence fee payers.

Mark Thompson, Director-General of the BBC, wrote:

“We will offer diverse television, radio and new media content…Our efforts are designed to provide the best in information, education, entertainment and involvement.â€

Because there is no advertising on the BBC’s channels, it’s also the one network where shows don’t live and die by ratings or the vagaries of advertising revenue.

The BBC has a long tradition of supporting science fiction; it’s the home of Dr. Who, it aired the X Files on its 2nd channel before moving it to primetime BBC1 at the height of its success, it aired Farscape.

British fan Peter contacted the BBC, requesting that it acquire the rights to Stargate SG-1 and commission more episodes. This was the response he received:

“Thank you for your e mail. I understand that you would like the BBC to acquire the rights for the Sci-Fi programme ‘Stargate SG-1′ and commission more episodes.

Please be assured that I have registered your interest on an audience log, this internal document will be made available to the scheduling department and senior management within the BBC. Feedback of this nature helps us when making decisions about future BBC programmes and services and your comment will play a part in this process.â€

The emails requesting the BBC pick up Stargate SG-1 will be added to this audience log; this time, there really IS strength in email numbers to make a quick and significant impact in raising awareness of the show with influential managers and decision-makers.

Points to cover in your email

(1) The USA’s SciFi Channel has cancelled science fiction show Stargate SG-1, produced by MGM.

(2) You’d like the BBC to acquire the rights to Stargate SG-1 and commission new episodes.

(3) You understand the financial implications, and suggest the BBC could partner with MGM and other international broadcasters of Stargate SG-1 in a co-production consortium.

(4) You’re aware the BBC has taken on co-production deals with international studios and networks before, and was instrumental in saving Due South when its ratings fell in the US/Canada.

And finally, use the online form on this webpage to contact the BBC:

BBC HERE

Step 1: choose Suggestions.

Step 2: choose Television Programmes

Step 3: choose General TV as your TV channel option

Step 4: enter the personal details requested

Step 5: submit

Thank's to Solutions for the quotes.

If BBC do pick it up, it'll be interesting to see what channel it will go onto.

Whilst many people who watch it on Sky to get it early will be able to watch it whatever, I have the sinking feeling it won't be on BBC1 or 2, but that of 3, which wouldn't do much for its viewing.

That being said, SG-1 is quite a high-profile show now, considering BBC have the rights to the film and show it on BBC1 whenever it IS on...well, could be on BBC1.

Then again...Star Trek, Farscape and most other sci-fi's have had the 6pm slot on Monday's, Wednesdays and Fridays before on BBC, so it's possible SG-1 would go there.

No, the more likely fact that if a UK group gets it, it'll be whoever has it at the mo and I THINK it's channel 4. It might be worth hassling THEM for the rights.

Stargate SG-1 movies coming to DVD

What's the future of Stargate SG-1? Fans have been wondering and rumors have been flying for weeks since the long-running SCI FI Channel series was cancelled in August (story). Now, at least the first part of that answer is here.

MGM has given a green light for the show's creators to produce two direct-to-DVD movies based on SG-1. Executive producer Brad Wright let TV Guide in on the news this week.

"It's the climax of the Ori story line," Wright said of the first film. The movie will tie up the loose ends from the show's tenth season, which is expected to conclude its U.S. television run in June. The film will be written and directed by current SG-1 executive producer and show-runner Robert C. Cooper.

The SG-1 cast is not signed for the movies yet, but are said to be "very eager" to continue.

Wright will pen the second film, which will involve time travel.

The producers have previously expressed a desire to set up a third Stargate television series with a film -- but it isn't confirmed yet whether or not this second movie will do just that.

The studio is targetting a fall 2007 release for both projects -- just a few months after Stargate SG-1 ends its historic, 10-year run on cable television.

It's entirely possible that the movies will also be aired on television -- something SCI FI commonly does with direct-to-DVD movies.

"They're not big-budget [films] by any definition, but for us it's pretty good," Wright told TV Guide. "As we've proven over the years, just give us little more money and we can make pretty good television, or DVDs."

"There's a sense of an era for us ending," he said, "but at the same time, we're all positive because of the prospect of continuing forward with movies and the introduction next year of Stargate Worlds, a massive multiplayer online game."

Best I can do for now.

It is also listed in the 2007 Guinness World Records as the "longest running science fiction show (consecutive)." [8] Doctor Who fans dispute this claim, as over 600 episodes of the British show were produced and shown consecutively between 1963 and 1989. [2] A spin-off series, Stargate Atlantis, began airing in 2004. The two shows now run in tandem, with plots that are occasionally interconnected, and story timelines that are simultaneous.

On August 21, 2006 the Sci-Fi channel announced that it would not be renewing the show for an eleventh season; however, executive producer Robert C. Cooper has said that SG-1's story will continue in a yet-to-be-announced form.[3] Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer has announced that they are very keen to carry on the Stargate SG-1 story, and that they "intend to vigorously find a way to extend the franchise." The last day of shooting for season 10 was on October 5, 2006. [9]

Call The President of Sci-Fi

For all those who want to see Sci-Fi return for more seasons of Stargate SG-1 this message is for you.

The President of Sci-Fi Ms. Bonnie Hammer is compiling a database from the calls that her office receives asking that SG-1 not be cancelled.
They are compiling this database to find out how many and from where the people are calling. This is your chance to make a difference! EVERY call will be statistically relevant to their study of this issue. Every call will give Ms. Hammer another round of ammunition to go to MGM/Universal with and fight for the shows renewal. If you want the show to be renewed it is very important that you call her office.

They are extremely nice to talk to about the cancellation and sincerely want to hear from you the viewers. The phone call will take less than five minutes and anyone interested in seeing SG-1 continue can make time for the call. Ms Hammers offices are in New York so for most people it will be a toll call.

Again, EVERY call counts! It means a lot to their statistics and gives them viable information to take to their advertisers and producers. If you do anything along the 'Save Stargate SG-1' realm, this call is important. They are counting these calls and doing their numbers from them! This is a great chance! Make it a family project and have everyone call!

Here is her information.

Ms. Bonnie Hammer
President, SciFi Channel
New York City, New York
212-664-4444
From outside of the US: (001) 212-664-4444
