I secured myself a copy of Lightwave 9.6 recently, for the purposes of high poly modelling a 3d animation.

Are you planing an entire video of the ships exiting hyperspace and shooting and blowing each other up?
If you need any pointers feel free to ask.

The animation is going to be a short 20-30 second clip. So the ship will come out of hyperspace, fire it's weapons, you see them hit and take out it's target.

I'll admit the exit effect turned out better than I thought. Right now I would put it at around 90% done with just some tweaking with the camera and the effect itself.

Indeed that is an outstanding hyperspace effect. Very nicely done.

And thanks, I am sure I'll come to you with a variety of questions once I learn how to use the program. So used to MS3D. :lol2:

Very nice. It would be awesome if the drones could split into say two groups halfway through their travel to the target. We've seen that in the show a few times.

Actually I'm going to do something like that in the 3rd clip. I want to have them split into two groups, impact the ship and then have some drones come out and back around to finish off the ship followed by a big explosion.

@Lord_Trekie - Can you go into a bit more detail?

Here is my wip of the 3rd part.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHpagEy1sjU

Right now I have the drones paths setup and a test of a non-hypervoxel explosion. Things I need to do yet is, speed up the effect and adjust it's lighting effect as well as add the rest of the explosion into the scene.

Pretty much just what Majestic said, and then what you did. :) All in one group just seemed a bit odd.

The main reason I keep them as one group for most of there journey is the ship only fired 20ish of them. Now if this was a larger ship and launched hundreds, well that would have been different. :)

Hello:
Maybe with more drones they would have been followed different paths to attack in more points. As for a smaller group, I think it is fine as they look in your video.
Still, I almost feel sorry for that poor ship been blowed apart .
Keep it up!

I like it very nice explosions and all timed up as far as I can see

Only thing I will say, is that the explosion on the front of the ship seems a little...redundant, if that's the right word. There doesn't seem to be a reason for it. I know that it is entirely likely that it was a result of the explosion in the back or something (power generator overloading, other stuff like that) but from a visual point of view it seemed a bit odd...

Another explosion before it - just about halfway between that and the first one - would help that I think. At the same time though, that may just be the angle or what not.

Lovely job anyway :)

I added the front explosion to help balance out the scene but I do see the point of adding something to lead up to it. I'll try a few things out and see how they look when I start on the other effects.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. It does indeed balance out well with the back explosions; and without it I can imagine the forward section looking slightly too pristine when the explosion does reach full intensity. Just thought it needed a bit of a link with the drone impact.

Soo... Cool... :Y

My only critiques are that the ship seems to appear out of hyperspace instead of move out of it, and the explosions on the enemy ship happen about a second before the drones actually hit.

But the models, physics, lighting, effects..... all soo cool. +1 from me man.

That's why it still is a work in progress. :)

At this point I wanted to get all the background elements in and then play with tweaking and changing the timing of a few effects.

Hello:
For a wip it is great! I just can begin to imagine the final result... will it have sounds too?

But it looks great. Keep it up!

Wow! I'm surprised I didn't notice this thread before or even that I wasn't pointed towards it especially when it has to do with StarGate :D!

All these ships look magnificent, what game are they for? I was deeply hoping that they are for Armada II but the videos make me think otherwise, but are there versions of these ships out for Star Trek Armada II?

I don't think they are for any game. :p
They're 3D models. You put'em into a program and make cool vids and renders with'em. They would be too high-poly for A2, anyway.

Courious, wouldn't it be possible to scale down the poly count and create them for A2 or would that be out of the question?

It is sad if that is the case, StarGate mods are under-represented in the entire Armada Community.

After all look at all the mods that featured StarGate, they just died out and their creations haulted, their creators have even disappeared.:confused:

Like Terra_Inc pointed out they are designed to be used in animations or still rendered images.

Most of my models are 300,000 to 1 million polygons and there is really no way to bring them down to the 5,000-10,000 range that armada needs.

Ok, that is understandable.

RJB. Do you by any chance have a gallery of images anywhere?? I wouldn't mind taking a closer look over some of these amazing models of yours.

** Quick edit **

Scratch what I just said. I thought I recognised your nick somewhere before. I've actually looked over your Deviant Art WIP page.
