• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. Most of you are going to either have no idea what Photoshop is, or wonder whether or not I'm crazy (Well I'll admidt I'm crazy at times so...). But yes, you CAN do 3d renders in Photoshop if the model is in a specific format. So far I've only tested this with .3DS files and it's worked pretty well. If you set up a model to have lights though in your 3d program those lights likely wont translate over to photoshop, but again, I've only tested .3ds files... There also appear to be some possible issues with how textures are applied by the program but I'll leave that to the full article to explain...

3D Rendering in Photoshop (from Renderosity)

(I had no idea where to really put this thread so please feel free to move it to a more appropriate area...)

It was quite a unique experience to say the least, unfortunately the model I was working with wasn't displaying the textures correctly, they were there, but the wrong color. I somehow doubt a Celestial Class Starbase would be painted purple... I'll try again in a few days time to see if I can get something decent out of it...

Purple, thats a Starbase Fedhog would like.

I only just got V8 of Photoshop or couple of weeks ago and am still learing to use it's basic features so it's going to take me a while to get to that point but this option you have told us about will really come in handy. Thanks Trekie.

Well I've got good news on that and bad news... Good news is I'm gonna take that broad hint and do a render or two for the queen of purple ;)

Bad news is I think this is for Photoshop cs3 extended only... I didn't read through the whole article but that's the impression I got... I hope I'm wrong. :x

If Cs3 is the case, looks like in a few years when I eventually upgrade I will be able to get do it then.

Till then I will stick with the 3D modeling programs like Milkshape and Blender (which I am learning to use).

Still I am interested to seeing how this feature will turn out. :)
