• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Did you learn through that A2Files Tutorial? If so, is it any good? And easy to Understand?

Also, Alpha Channels on GUI's. I am confused with this. Why would GUI's need Alpha Channels?

Yes I did, its simple to do. ;) Alpha cnahhels are needed or you won't be able to see any text the map or cin window.

The alphas on the GUIs allow for clear backgrounds of them. It also allows for smooth edges. Almost all TGAs in the original A2 have Alpha channels. A2 also supports Mip mapping, and bump maps.

Yeah that too. :)

Ok, y'all are talking technical mumble jumble. What are GUIs, Alphas, Mips, Bump, and what ever else you talkin about? Can you do me a favor and type up a basic modding dictionary? Please? :worship:

Oh, ya...Is it done yet? J/K... But it is the end of '07 so I'm wondering if you could let me now whats been happening.

Well, the release date is still not set... But when we are ready, it'll be out. Currently what is hapopening with the mod... this is a slow time for the mod. I am the one making all the models (ships, stations, and most all 3D things in the game that we are replacing). Sadly enough, this is the crazy time for me out at work. Last week, I logged 95 hours. Not much time left in a day to do much else. After New Years, then I should be back to "semi" normal work levels. Then I will start pumping out the models once more.

As far as the tecknical stuff, don't worry about that. I tend to get a little carried away sometimes.

Well, Off to bed for me, I have to work a very long day again.

ok forget the technical stuff...but what is A2-2A? Anyway...Good night, my friend.

On a lighter note, Syf, could I ask you do do something for me on the side...How long does it take to make 1 ship? The build button, admiral's log, etc. etc. I was wondering because I would love to see a Nemisis-era version of a Constellation class and a Nebula class. I would assume it would have a Soverign or a Promethus look to it. Can you do it for me?

Glad I read this, I'll be needing to make a GUI soon (I'm making a Vulcan full race mod (Thread over at the FF forums)), and I've never even attempted to make a GUI before, so I need all the tips I can find. Hopefully I can get the hang of it in case I end up having to making the GUI's for AndrArmada too. :)

GUI in sort is a user interface, the fancy interface that you see when ingame, the pretty pictures that match each race. I am the one in the 2A-A2 team that makes the GUI's, (though Syf is quite capable too as he has done in the past) the Gorn one can be seen in some of the images in the image gallery.

The 2A-A2 team stands for the team, or should I say pair as there is only two of us, who are making Yesteryears.

Check the following link for more info on us:

@Dan
I will be happy to give you some pointers, just send me a PM and I will see about sending you an old GUI or two for you to use as a base along with a tutorial that I have been using since day one.

Thank you

Thanx Majestic, I will definitly check out that website.

I'm have miminal modding skills. You know, downloading stuff off of A2files then incorprating it into the Stock Armada II. But the level y'all are doing it, that sounds like a couple years at a technical school to learn..computer progamming or something.

Dan good luck with your mod!

See my expertise lies in Kit-Bashing... I take several models of different starships then throw together to make one big awesome ship, havent done it in awhile through with my boy and all.

Peace my brothers...how did you sleep Syf?

Modding A1 and A2 doesn't take much in the way of programming, really I don't consider it programming in the technical sense more typing ability.

Syf and I really have experience on our side more than anything (and syf's excellent modelling anf texturing skills), since both of us have been modding Armada since the turn of the century (2000-2001).

Your welcome Dan.

When I get some other tasks out of the way, I will see what I can do.

how did you sleep Syf?
Sleep... what's that. Oh wait, I've heard of it... I think I have eaten some of it before... It tastes like chicken, right!

Actually, I do get 3 hours between shifts on days like today. Speaking of which, that's what I need to do right now instead of this...

Thank yor for considering the ships. It would mean alot to me. Now you keep saying between shifts. I asked earlier what your real jobs were, are you telling me that this mod is your real job, or are you like a fireman or something?
