• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

When it's done!!!:p

Don't you know one can't expect a release date question to be answered. Not until the mod is in beta testing anyways.;)

Syf is correct, the mod isn't out yet but isn't going to be a long duration mod. 3 races plus a surprise race that are the main enemy in the campaign.

I expect an early 2007 release but that can easily change due to many factors. The current plan is to have all models done by the end of 2006 at the latest.

Thats the plan, if everything goes well it should be done by them. I still have a hell of alot of work to do. Currently I am working on attempting to get the glows out of the Federation ships, so they all look like the Miranda. Having a bit of trouble though.

Currently we don't yet, any release date we make at this current time would be inaccurate.

Be sure to check back here though as this is the first place that you would find out the release date.

We could lie, and say it would be out tomorrow... But that is not what we want to do. There is still a ton of work to be completed. With the model work at about 65% complete, the concept work at about 85%, and the coding work at less than 25%, there is still a long ways to go. Yesteryears did take a haitas for about a month and a half. So, we are doing a lot of make-up work to recover from the lost time.

When will people learn to stop asking for release dates? It just makes the mod team angry and hard pressed to get it done, whereas wouldn't you all want a mod with no errors and no need for patches? I for one will wait for as long as it takes. If people want to help, offer models and things, ideas might make the mod development go faster.

Yes people just don't understand the time it takes to produce a full total conversion. Model creation is only half the job, the rest like AI's, programming, coding and the works takes just as long.

Most of the people who have been in the community for a long time know the number one rule of never asking for a release date, but I personally would pefer people to ask than to just sit in the background and stay quiet. Support from the community makes the mod speed up as the modders know that people are indeed waiting for the mod and are interested in their work and efforts.

I agree. There really is no harm done by asking. Just don't pull a Bart simpson, and post every day "Is it ready yet!"...:lol2:

We are working hard to speed the process. We started the mod back in Sept. I believe. So, it's far younger than most other mod projects. Look at All the other mods out there. And look at the number of cancelled mods too. Most modding teams consist of 5 or more modders. We are but 2 modders making Yesteryears. But we will complete it a lot quicker than most other mods in the works.

Support in the community would be "hows the mod going?" type of questions, that's what I ask not "are we there yet?" which would probably get the thread closed or my post deleted. Learnt that from experience.

But you both probably know that everyone is awaiting your mod as well as many others like Fleet Operations' next release for A2 and Parallels is another, oh and Future Tense for A1. It's the replies to screenshots that say it.

True :( , a lot of great looking mods have been killed and these sort of questions just increase the presure ( i know , was part of the twilight team , minor work but there is still presure from it ) , the mod will be done when its finished , pure and simple :D . There is NO rush , take your time , make it as good as you can get it , no regrets that way :D

Take FT for example , been in development for years and they have made Armada into a whole new game . Well worth the wait and so will this

We do intend not to rush the mod, we will release it when we think it is ready.

For me, people asking for a release date doesn't really pressure me but shows me there are more people interested than I thought, but for some people it can get real annoying or put pressure on them.

Syf and I are only two people, we make up the core team and together we will be doing about 95-98% of the mods work. So you can see for the two of us there is a lot of work.

Still my current plan is to attempt to have this mod out by the end of 2007, thats just a really rough estimate at the moment, so don't quote me on that one.

Currently this is what is done:

1. All Federation Ships (19).
2. All Klingon Ships (15).
3. All Romulan Ships (16).
4. All Terran Ships (13).
5. 60% of the 4th race ships (8).
6. 1 Gorn ship.
7. 1 Cardassian ship.
8. 1 Tholian ship.
9. 6 out of 11 Hero Ships
10. Federation, Romulan, Terran and Gorn GUIs (Only requiring alphas, filter and idle buttons added).
11. All races multiplayer music.
12. All races ingame with the exception of the Tholians.
13. All weapon textures completed and sprites added to the game.
14. Early balancing of ship ODF files.
15. Very early AIs added.

I am sure I am forgetting a few things. It may not sound like much, but considering we only started this mod about 6 months ago and had a month off, I think we are doing extremely well just for the two of us.

Note: The Klingon GUI is almost complete as is the 4th races. ;)

Do you still want me to try and add the Transparencies to the GUI's?

I hope they are able to release it before the end of the year, but at least it gives me plenty of time to get a new hard drive.

The plan is to hopefully have it out at the end of the year, there are only two of us and we are doing 6 full races so that statement is only an estimate.

Once we have a confirmed release date we will let you the MSFC members know.

We have all the ship models done bar a few and are now into the stations and getting heavily into the coding.

The mod is making some great progress. We have some things happening right now that will make it worth the wait.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that. He was suppose to be doing some GUI's for me also (along with YesterYears). Originally there were three he was going to do (Fed, Kling & Card), but because of the change in storylines etc, he took on the others too.

I am, to this date still waiting for the first one from him. Bearing in mind he had started these (assuming that he had actually started them) well over 9 months ago, does make me wonder if I'll actually be getting anything from him at all. An e-mail & GamingForums PM to him have gone unanswered.

Since then, Atlantis has offered to do them. Though he hasn't been on the job long (a few weeks) I've not seen or heard anything from him about them either. I fear it'll be a case of 'if you want something done right, do it yourself' for me. :(

Will have to look over that GUI tutorial on A2Files sometime..

I am doing all the GUI's myself now, I too got sick and tired waiting to hear back from EM. Last I heard he said he was going to send me the Klingon GUI, and that was like 6 months ago.

So now I create the GUI's and Syf adds the alphas. Problem solved. :)

Did you learn through that A2Files Tutorial? If so, is it any good? And easy to Understand?

Also, Alpha Channels on GUI's. I am confused with this. Why would GUI's need Alpha Channels?

The alphas on the GUIs allow for clear backgrounds of them. It also allows for smooth edges. Almost all TGAs in the original A2 have Alpha channels. A2 also supports Mip mapping, and bump maps.
