• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Rake's Weapon Textures?

I've been looking around for the infamous Rake's weapon textures for a while now, but every link I've found has turned up dead. Would anyone happen to know a link where they are or if they have a copy? If you have a link, please PM me so I can give my e-mail to send it to, as site rules restrict links in forums and PM's

What are the chances of uploading them here and at FF so a random computer crash doesn't wipe them out for all time?

When Rake got a site at ModDB, part of the agreement was that anything hosted there couldn't be hosted anywhere else. The site no no longer exists, so any contract about the site or its contents should be void, I think. If we can get a hold of Rake, we might be able to figure out the terms of the contract, just to be safe.

Sorry, I meant Fileplanet, not ModDB. FG and I are talking about the same site.

As much as I'd like to see Rake's textures hosted here or FF, doing so would be in conflict with his wishes and the terms and conditions of file hosting here and FF as well. Say what else you like about the other a2 site, they do work pretty hard at preventing disreputable people stealing other people's work and presenting it as their own. For the most part they are successful too. MSFC has some terms and conditions on file hosting as well. These are in place at both sites to ensure the right people receive credit for their work. This ensures people who make things for a game will be recognized and rewarded by accolade for their work. If they already know people will steal a mod and take credit for it on other sites, why should they bother sharing anything at all with anyone outside a close circle of friends? I may not agree with some of the terms and conditions, but I respect the intent and live with the things I do not like.

I've never been all that excited about someone 'borrowing' my stuff and pretending it is theirs. Then again, my stuff is unique enough this would be difficult to do successfully. When people provide assistance and materials for something I am doing, I will resolutely defend their right to be recognized for the work they did. One of the reasons this place exists at all is Majestic and Syf made a stand against mod theft. Bravo for this. Hosting Rake's weapon textures here without securing his permission first would be mod theft of a sorts. It also would be disrespectful of Rake's wishes. This matters even if he is no longer around or no longer cares. Intellectual property is still property. It is his mod and he can do as he wishes with it.

This is the point where someone cries out, "But all I want is the mod! It's so cool! This ain't fair!". Yup, sure isn't. Neither is life. But if we steal from Rake and are disrespectful of his wishes, then how long is it until we do the exact same thing to you? Not very. And it will be far easier to do to you because we've already established the precedent. And how long after that does MSFC become like a great many other websites. Where no one cares and everyone steals from everyone else and accusations and perma bans fall like the rain? Not too much more. And how long after that does Majestic pull the plug on the place because no one comes here any more and it isn't fun like it used to be in the old days. About an eye blink later.

This website is a privately funded one. Majestic and Syf pay for this out of their own pockets. We are all allowed in here strictly on their sufferance and forbearance. They do this because they like us, not because someone made them. And since they pay the bills, they get to call the shots. All of them. All we can do is ask nicely and attempt to persuade them to see things from our viewpoint. Mostly they are gracious and generous to a fault and sometimes let us do things maybe we should not. But they decided a very long time ago this would be a place which stood for something. This something is respect for the rights of modders and adherence to a code which states if you did it then you get credit for it. To host Rake's mod without asking for and receiving permission beforehand would mean they are compromising their integrity. I do not think I want to ask someone to do this. I also think it is unfair and selfish for anyone else to ask someone to do this.

It's quite clear you believe in the standards set a great deal TF. Never really heard the speeches you've presented on other forum (remaining nameless, I'm not some snake that discredits others). Looks like joining here was a step in the right direction.

Thunderfoot, you have earned my respect. I salute you sir. :worship:

Could someone provide a link/URL for his site? Can't find it and I'd love to take a look at some of his stuff. :)
