• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

A lot of the team worked on Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander so it should be epic.

I'm also looking forward to seeing how many of there stretch goals they can raise money for. The first two are water worlds and gas giants.

This looks really awesome! I'm also excited to see that the plan on going for a macro focus rather than micro. Micro managing gets tedious for me after a while and it's hard to find an RTS that doesn't require it to win. Being able to focus on the overall plan rather than needing to manage each unit in every battle will be a fun change of pace.

Want want want want want want want!

Seriously, until now I've never heard of this; and it looks awesome. I agree wholeheartedly with Cabal as well - it'll be nice to focus on everything rather than focus on tiny little bits. Micromanagement just becomes tedious.

Thanks for the heads up RJB .

That is one of the great things. A lot of RTS games as of late have been focused on limited units or squad based and lacked the large scale epic strategic battles. Also being fan funded they don't have to worry about a publisher which will give them more flexibility in making the game they and us want.

Interview with the developer.

Sounds good to me, we have 2 STO MSFC Fleets, a MSFC DeviantArt and Facebook page so I say why not.

There first stretch goal was reached so we are getting water worlds and full navel units added for the game.

Here is the third stretch goal they added a few days back.

NEW STRETCH GOAL

$1,500,000 - Lava and Metal Planets

We’re excited to introduce two new types of planets- lava and metal. Lava is extremely volatile but provides vast amounts of energy and raw materials. Geothermal plants and liquid metal processing mines provide the next level of resource extraction technology. Build in strategic locations to take advantage of the natural defense provided by rivers of flowing lava.

That’s no moon. It’s a space station! Metal planets are wandering relics of wars long past, giant artificial battle stations that can be recycled or reactivated to bring a new level of destruction. Harness the lost knowledge and brute power of the ancients by repairing their installations. Then take over the control structures and rain destruction on your opponents.

Very interesting. Seems like a pretty steep concept to grasp, but I would be interested to see it enacted.

Rezzing an old thread, but with release upon us has anyone tried this yet? I've had interest since I first heard about it years ago, and have followed the news. May have to wait for reviews and such to form an opinion.

Well you might be in luck Rifraf. I actually bought the game, but be warned. It requires something of a fairly decent pc to play it effectively. As the game will not run correctly on XP, I updated my OS to win7 32bit, but after some problems found I required the 64bit of win7 as a minimum. If you do decide to get it make sure you obtain the proper release version and not the same one I did (which was out on the day of release as a physical dvd and was the "Early Access Edition"). A couple of things to note. Whilst the game runs on win vista you must have the direct x v9.0c end user distribution otherwise one critical file will not work (something which isn't mentioned anywhere and I only found out with some help on the official forum).

Although the minimum specs indicate 4gb of memory I would strongly suggest at least 8gb as the game runs much better the more memory you have. My system is currently:

- Pentium Dual core E6700 3.2ghz
- Nvidia Geforce GT 520 (1gb onboard vram)
- 4gb memory

With these specs, the game is a bit slow with loading times and can lag a little (but not to badly) when theres alot of combat and when using the zoom function in skirmish mode (I don't play online). Other than that I have to have certian settings set to off or at their lowest, but the game still runs okay. You may also need to the C++ distribution from 2010 as well so just try the game at each installation point. You'll kn ow if the game runs because the executable file is the only way to update the game to the latest version their is, and if the main screen doesn't appear then check my thread here:

https://forums.uberent.com/threads/early-access-edition-physical-disc.63734/

Be warned though, there still seems to be multiple issues with playing online games from the various forum users.

Awesome, thanks MP. I think I've had to download the C++ 2010 distribution for another game before, but will check and think I also did the same for the direct x 9.0c end user distribution as well.

Based on my specs I hope to be able to get around your performance maybe a tiny bit more?:

- Vista x64
- Pentium Dual Core E8400 3.0ghz
- Geforce GTX 460 (1gb vram)
- 8 gb ram (though mine is only DDR2 800)

Thanks for the infos. I'll check out the link too
