• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

For the past 2 months, I have been trying to find any resources for BSG (TRS). I figured that most of them would show up, but boy....was I wrong. Of all the resources that were probably the hardest to find was a Basestar.

Probably what was the easiest to find, or make, and boy was I wrong. Up until the day, I joined here as a member, and I didn't find it in resources. It just popped up on the screen for FREE. It's a Coxxon's version that 1 of the umpteen sites I have finally spit out. So I got to wondering how many ships CAN I find of the Colonial fleet, as well Cylon. To date, I have Two Basestars and 3 definite Battlestars. So I figure I would make a thread to see if I can expand the subject.

Two latest additions

How high-poly are we talking? There's plenty in the resources section of this site, and I know there was a BSG mod for Armada 2 floating around somewhere

At the moment I'm talking any Poly. The Basestar is actually low Poly, oppose to the Battlestar Galactica. I've done this before and found a stash of Star Wars vehicles, all canon, and low poly, yet still put together a fleet.

Well, depending on which series you are looking for (Original or remake), there are several resources available. Of course, another issue is, what format are you looking for these ships to be in?

If you are looking for 3dsMax models or finished meshes that have not been converted to a game, then I have seen some number of ships available. If you are looking for models that have been converted to A2's SOD format, or Bridge Commander, or whatever other game, then the choices are available but more limited. In this case, you might have some luck with a game's page on nexus or any other website particular to that game: ie nexusmods.com/startrekarmada2/, gamerfront, moddb.com, etc.

Other games, such as Bridge Commander and Sins of a Solar Empire, have higher poly models than A2. Many of these games have BSG mods and may contain something you are looking for.

Personally, I have some A2 BSG models that I have found across the web in different mods or on this very website, which has a BSG section. There is a mini mod about Syfy's series and contains many colonial units including 7-8 types of Battlestars of varying size and civilian colonial ships. I have also acquired the original series Basestar and Cylon Raider, the original Viper, and the original Galactica (I think). Mostly though, what you'll find is based on the newer series, such as the aforementioned mini mod.

Hope that helps in your search a little, I know it wasn't much.

I mainly deal with OBJ files for rendering and maybe in the future for printing. I have an easier time with TOS resources than TRS models. Other tan Coxxon, the only other builder I know of is TanJ. Been work with his LWO Battlestars, but they are mostly Non-Canon and full of Glitches. Been working around it, as of now I still have like 4 more Battlestars to check out.

Scifi-Meshes.com has a few WIP BSG ships, from TOS and TRS. I don't know if they have their models available for others to use, especially since many of them are not finished, but maybe you can google the website and find something there?

There are also several mods that I can see in Moddb.com which are BSG themed, although they seem to be either a mix of TOS and TRS or more TRS inclined. The mods are for games such as Star Wars Empire at War: Forces of Corruption, X3, X4 and even Homeworld (Gosh it's been a long while since I played that one). I don't know if any of those authors are willing to donate some models to you, but you might find something to work with.

Well of recent days I have had more problems converting the Fleet to OBJ files so that operation has bee suspended until INDEFINITELY at the moment. But I had to overcome the Dread TOS Cylon Raiders that are available. The Textures are none descript as well as their general appearances. So I had to go cheap just to complete this. The Viper Mark II has issues as well but renders well in Low light as you see.

For models, one place you might look through is called Turbosquid. I have gotten some models from there myself. It is a market place for 3D artists. Some are Free, some are not. Some models are High-poly, some are not. Formats include OBJ, LWO, 3DS, Maya, etc. Just use the search on the site using words like free and spaceship, etc. I did a look just earlier today and found a hand full of BSG, Star Trek, Star Wars, and more. I am not endorsing nor affiliated with the site, nor posting a link.

I did find a very nice looking Viper MK IV (141,000 polycount)

A note I want to add is that with both original and the reboot BSG, they often used random models for the "rage tag fleet" even once used a model of the original Enterprise from Star Trek. So while you may not find a specific model your looking for, you can find models that "look" like they would fit. Just use good judgement. The same goes for both the Colonials and the Cylons.
