• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Just as the title says, while searching for station designs sometime back I stumbled across this website.

the3dstudio.com

In their space 3D model section I found, yes you guess it, Star Trek, Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica models to make a few being sold. Some designs are fan designed, others are from Armada 2 and others are other fan designs or even canon models.

Where do these people get off selling these, and where do these sites get off hosting them? I mean unless they have some sort of written agreement with the current licence owners of these shows (which I sorely doubt) how to they get away with this. If I did this, I would be stung straight away, probably with a nice big law suite, one I couldn't hope to afford to pay.

It just really annoys me, people like us do our modelling because we enjoy it and to bring enjoyment to others, then sleaze bags like this William Riker fellow, who does this. I wouldn't be half surprised if some of the models are actually stolen and not entirely his.

I hope karma catches up with him and delivers him a 10x fold slam dunk.

I'd suggest sending a message to the respective companies with digital millennium violation or what not... always insulting to see fan-made stuff made for the love of the community, sold by others.

Looks like coxxons models are up there too. Uncool as always, but as long as the internet is free as it is, things will happen like this. Unfortunatly, there is little more we can do about it.

I agree it's disgusting. I hope the people who does things like this, end up getting what is coming to them.

Sadly you're right, unless an individual is making a fair sum off a licensed design (like Star Trek), it isn't worth the time and hassle of the licence holders.

This wouldn't be the first time, I remember seeing some paper models based on p81's and WZ's work, they were sold for quite a price each.

Really messed up, but that's the way it is I guess. Some even turn a blind eye on them.
