Nexus: The Jupiter Incident + Mods

I just picked up this game and it fulfils almost every idea I ever had for a game I would like.

Nexus puts you as the commander of a capital ship (sometimes more than one) and you get full control of its systems, weapons etc. Fights between capitals can last anywhere between 5 minutes to 30+ minutes, depending on the set-up and class of either ship. Pretty much you get to watch your capitals pouring fire into the hull of the other ship.

You also get strike craft which can defend your ship against other fighters or be put on interception duties, amongst others.

But anyway, I get to what this game really impresses me with, and I will show you.

THE MODS!

So far I have several mods installed for this game: BSG, B5, Stargate, Star Wars, and so on. And I must say, the mods are brilliant despite some lacking interesting missions (you can make your own if you want to take the time).

These images are from my own install :D If you want more pictures, or pictures from the other mods, just say!

Some spoiler tags so it doesn't mess up the thread...

Same here. That is really cool. What sort of gaming equipment does it need? And what are you running, if I may ask? :yum:

Well the BSG mod lags no matter what set-up you have when there are too many fighters on screen, something to do with a memory leak or something. The team behind it are investigating apparently.

But apart from that, everything runs on max with my set-up. In fact, I think mine may be overkill for the mods I have installed.

What I have though is:
Windows 7 Prof. 64-bit
AMD Athlon II X3 450 Processor 3.2GHz
4.0GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce GTX 460

OMG, that is completely above and beyond my config. So... I must either buy ancient games... or a new PC... :(

Seriously dude check the specifications of the actual game itself, I'm sure that the mods don't exceed it too much :)

I think you could find them on Steam or google them :D

Don't worry, I have an Nvidia Geforce MX4 and pretty low system specs (I just cant afford a newer computer) and Nexus runs just fine.

Nexus - The Jupiter Incident runs on low-spec system with high graphics setting seamless. In my opinion it showed, that for high end effects you do not need an engine that needs the most recent hardware. It can be done.

I wanted to test the BSG mod, but havent gotten to that yet. However: The Babylon 5 mod is absolutely awesome.
Try coordinating all the gun batteries of a Nova class DN :lol2:

Wow, yeah, that gp card smokes pretty much everything I have combined. I am looking at building a desktop with a Nvidia 500+ card, but not really soon.

I'm running an old Geforce 8500 GT, has always worked for me. Though it's too old to run any modern games, I'm afraid.

I have you all beat! Nvidia GeForce FX 5600 from 2003. Beat that!:lol2:

Anyway, looks like a cool game, but I doubt I meet system requirements. The game actually reminds me of SFC from what I've seen so far. BTW, I finally got SFC1 running on Wine. Yay!

Ha! In post #7 of this thread I've already beaten you with a Geforce MX 420 from the year 2002.

Nexus WILL work with your graphics card. As I already wrote Nexus does not need the latest hardware to run.
Alas! A game where the designers chose a good engine with minimal requirements for up-to-date effects.

Oh, then I should see if there's a store around here that has it.:) I would check Steam, but I haven't been able to completely get that working on Wine...

Geforce MX 420 from the year 2002
Fine then, I've got an Nvidia Geforce 2 MX 200 from 2000, an ATI Mach64 from 1995, and an Intel integrated card from around 2000 that my computer could never quite identify and experienced lag in A1 with resolutions greater than 1024x768 or more than three ships firing torpedoes at once. It used to be my main card. I don't use these cards anymore for obvious reasons.

I will post up some screenshots of the B5 mod later tonight, I'm quite busy during most of today :)

And ****, some of those cards are ancient. Gonna need Daniel Jackson or some other famous archeologist to figure out how they work :p

To paraphrase SGT Johnson, of HALO fame,

"When I first started using computers, we didn't have no fancy schmantzy vid cards. We had sticks. Two sticks. And a rock. And we had to share the rock."

I still have a Commodore C64 in storage, along with the floppy drive. And all of the SSI Dungeons and Dragons games. All of it still works. 8 bit RGB graphics. 256kb RAM. Takes fifteen minutes and four disc changes to boot up the game. And it is still one of the best game series I ever played, thirty years later. Sometimes, Olde Skool Rools. lol
