Good article, thanks for the share. I could be a little too critical of this, but I kind of see it as a destruction of my favorite form of science fiction. I can enjoy all different kinds of sci-fi (Can't wait for Force Awakens), but Star Trek was always my favorite because in a far-fetched way, I always imagined thats how our future would turn out. The way these new films are, its just like they exist in the Star Wars universe or something. They don't give a crap about actual science or physics or even any grand ideas. Its just Fast and Furious in space with a side of destruction porn. Sad...I actually went to see the first two in the theater, I think I'll skip this one. I want to see STAR Trek, not some random planet (Where it looks like this whole film takes place) and San Francisco, Earth Trek. Also, since they pretty much trash the JJ Prise in every movie, there is no sense of tension or urgency. It's like, "oh look that thing is still made of cardboard, they'll probably fix it or get a new one with even more phallic warp nacelles."

It doesn't seem very Trek-y, but frankly, the movies most like the shows haven't been very good. The best ones have always been action-y like TWoK or First Contact. Except for TVH. So long as it's better than Into Darkness was I think I'll be fine. I do hope that the next movie has an Enterprise that isn't hideous, though. Perhaps an alternate Excelsior Class with a more traditional look?

I actually really enjoyed the first one and didn't feel like it messed many things up. Into Darkness was pretty terrible and this one definitely does not get me very excited. I hope I'm proven wrong though and its great.

I'm withholding judgement until after I see the film. But first impressions aren't great.

I used to be really critical of the reboot. But then my wife told me I should just look at it as really expensive fan fiction. And now I am ok with it.

Reactions have been very hostile to say the least, but my 20 bucks says this is an expensive marketing stunt. It's just the teaser people, and the movie's tone may be drastically different (or the same), god forbid.

Marketing technique, sure, but that trailer made it as clear as day that the Enterprise herself is not making it past the 1 hour mark, if we're lucky. And I have a major problem with that.

Losing the Enterprise should be an emotional event. They revealed the Enterprise is toast in the trailer for crying out loud. My reaction was..."meh".

Heh, they did the same thing with the Enterprise-D in Generations. They're throwing em' away faster than they can build them!

The JJPrise may break the Ent-D's short service record.

Oh no this is so stupid, no vission, no respect for the franchise. This, as the other two is more of the old B-movie style than anny sci-fi but all, which don't know the original universe, like it because its from a well known director and much action in it. That alien woman looks like that from Mass effect but with a facial-tattoo, this is so uninspired. :exter:

UGH, talk about a terrible way to send a ship out. I was a little annoyed that the flagship of the federation was taken out by an old bird of prey using recycled footage. Still though, I had feels at least for that one.

Not hard...

Agreed. But I suspect I'll be waiting for the DVD release as I'm loath to spend a small fortune on films, especially when I don't have high hopes.

Reactions have been very hostile to say the least, but my 20 bucks says this is an expensive marketing stunt. It's just the teaser people, and the movie's tone may be drastically different (or the same), god forbid.
Agreed, trailers are rarely indicative of the final film. In fact if I recall, one of the First Contact trailers used a lot of footage from Best of Both Worlds.

Agreed KJC, best to wait and see. Trailers and Teasers like Beta's for games can never give you the whole picture.

It looks like it could be good as a movie, but not really Trek. I for one was delightfully pleased to see the iPrise torn to shreds. If they do a fourth movie, hopefully they'll replace it with a better looking vessel.

I'm past the crap argument of what it looks like, at the end of the day, it's a starship Enterprise, deal with it.

What I take MUCH more issue with is the fact that this movie seems to utterly piss away any of the universe setup that Into Darkness gave us.

The Enterprise is on its five year mission to destroy the ship within one adventure.... But that extreme motorcycle jump though...thats what fans want!

Huh, yeah, I didn't know that backstory about Justin Lin. Restores a teeny bit of hope for me as well. His intentions can still be great, but studios are great at wrecking those, as we've seen many a-time before.

I'm moving more towards the wait and see viewpoint, but I haven't watched the trailer in a few days;) If I do, I'll probably jump back on the "This is crap" bandwagon.

I'm with Majestic in saying that I'll reserve judgment for when I finally see 'Beyond', but first impressions from the trailer aren't looking all that good. Still, it would take some herculean feat for this movie to be worse than Into Darkness. So, my predictions are that this movie will at least be tolerable (as in, I don't hulk out in the middle of watching it). We'll have to see.

Like Maj and others, I'll reserve my judgement 'till the movie. Trailers have a tendency to lie, it's a trope on that. The first impression though, isn't good.

Would it not be awesome if the move had nothing to do with the trailers? Like they filmed the trailers separately just to mess with us?

Hmmmm. Seems theres alot of "fanboys" here who aren't happy with the new film. Me personally. I have always enjoyed Trek films no matter how they are made. Its also interesting to see people state about the loss of the Ent-D but remember that this isn't the first time an Enterprise was lost in one of the films.

Certainly looking forward to this film although I won't go to see it on the big screen.

I for one am looking forward to seeing it. I will reserve judgement until then. This is only a trailer, I look forward to future trailers to really see what the movie will possibly look like.

I agree, I'm a fan of all things that is Star Trek. Some shows better then others; some movies better then others.

But I'm just glad to see that Star Trek is making a come back to the Big Screen along with the new Star Trek TV show that will be hitting our Small Screens in 2017.

When Star Trek came back to the small screen in the 1980's, it was the beginning of a new Generation of Star Trek fans to be born and it lasted through 4 different Star Trek TV Shows and Movies, but after Star Trek Enterprise went off the air it felt like a dark time without Star Trek being on the Big Screen and Small Screen.

As for the new Star Trek Beyond trailer, they put to many scenes into this trailer so kinda hard to pick out what this movie is all about; but one thing for sure we will see a USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A in the upcoming 2017 Star Trek TV series.
