Mass Effect.

Wall of text Inc.

Where to start? Like I really don't know. I've already deleted a few introductions and I'm just gonna roll with this, my introduction to the series.
I was a skeptic myself, well rather, just ignorant to its existence. The first Mass Effect was released on Xbox360 and PC only, so it kinda flew under my radar. It was also released during the height of my WoW 'career', so I was basically unaware of everything around me at the time.
This was 2007.
Mass Effect was received with critical acclaim. What do you expect from Bioware? Those guys are overlords of the RPG scene.
January 2010.
I was busy in America at the time, doing my thing. Which at the time could have been snow skiing. Either way, Mass Effect 2 was released. Again I had no idea, or care at the time. I check to my Steam friends and see a buddy post a recommendation for this random game I've never heard of, saying its the best hes ever played. Big call from this guy, considering gaming is all he does at the moment.

It wasn't until this past Christmas (and subsequent Steam sale) that I decided to pick up Mass Effect 1 (for $2)

Oh. My. Gosh. I didn't know what to think. I've been playing RPGs since I started gaming. This was far and beyond the best one I've ever played. Sure the shooting was a little awkward, but.. the story.. the characters.. the character development. This set a new standard for RPG gaming to me, or so I thought.

Unfortunately I didn't pick up ME2 at the same time as I did for 1, so I didn't get it for $3, I got it for $30. (Bought the Digital Deluxe Edition).
This game... this game... far surpassed ME1 in every way. I didn't think it was possible. It was absolutely amazing. I wanted, and needed more. The carry on from the first game, the ability to import a save file from the first game, to continue the story, MY story is what made this series for me. Everything I did in the first game shaped and changed everything that was and happened in the second. Never before have I seen such an amazing connection. The characters continued with me, as did my relationships and their memories of events from the first game. As I pushed 60 hours to complete the game, I basically exploded to hear that ME3 wasn't far off being released.

I wanted a collectors edition of Mass Effect 3. Unfortunately I couldn't get it. (I could get one now, but I was limited to a physical copy due to my ultra small download allowance)

Anyway, I still got a special edition. I brought the game home after work and you better believe I installed that thing. I installed it hard. I load up the menu, anticipation was off the charts. I imported my save, to continue my story, to continue my galaxy.

I played or thought nothing else until I finished Mass Effect 3. (Lucky it came out on a Thursday, so I only had to work one day before the weekend)

I laughed, I cried, and I fought my way through the epic (its not a big enough word to describe) that was the final game to the trilogy, that finishes the story, that finished the story I started in the first game. My allies and enemies for the final battle were literally based on decisions I made in the first game. That insignificant choice I made was coming back to haunt me, or to assist me. Everything made sense, everything came to a close. What I did in the first game affected my story for the second, and the third.

Then came the ending, as you probably have no doubt heard (it has been in the media) the ending will go down as one of the most poorly received endings in the history of video games. My opinion? There is more to it than the masses are seeing. You need to finish it and see for yourself. People aren't looking deep enough. The ending is, something. However Bioware has promised there is more to come, in the form of DLC.

Well, that's my Mass Effect story. There is so much more I want to say, but I can't. I can't give away the story or anything for those who haven't played it, I'm sure there are spoiler tags I could use, but I won't.

For those who know nothing about it, it is a Sci-Fi game. Its set in 2183, 35 years after Humans discovered ancient, advanced technology on Mars, which allowed them to propel Humanity into the reaches of the Galaxy.
In the present time, a rare artifact from a long dead race is discovered, and an ancient cycle is unveiled of total galaxy wide destruction of all organic life. Its up to Commander Shepard of the Human Alliance and his crew to search the galaxy for a way to stop coming destruction, and stop what has already begun.

This game series is seriously worth your time. 10/10, 100/100, A++. If you have a PS3, I recommend getting it on PC. The first game didn't come out on PS3 (due to Microsoft backing) so you would have to start your game from ME2.
You really can't just grab 2 or 3 and start playing. You need to start playing the first game, to get the full experience of what this masterpiece is all about.

Rawks out.
