Hi guys, I haven't been real active on here and kinda felt bad about that, so I decided that I'd share some of the ships I created over the years.
Some are fully modeled and maybe even some texturing here or there, but mostly it's stuff I never finished one way or another.

But I'd like to think that maybe it'll give you guys some eye candy, or at least something to give you ideas of your own.

First up is one of my newest models, The Descent class from FleetOps.
I always liked it and wanted to give it a go just to see if I could do it justice. I've never thought of myself as a great modeler so I felt like this was a challenge.

I've tried to put my own touches on it and give it some extra detail while staying true to the original design.

Here I made the deflector bigger, I thought a big ship like this needed it.

She's just slightly over 2000 polygons, I believe the original was over 3500, so I'm really happy about that.

Hope you like it, let me know what you think.

Can't say I'm a fan of the design but at 2k polies I'm impressed at the amount of physical detail. The cutouts on the nacelles must really have started to eat into those numbers.
If you're after constructive criticism the only thing that comes to mind is upping the poly count on the saucer to smooth the edge out a bit more. I imagine that's where some of the extra polies in the FlOps original went.
I see great things in your modelling future

Great work! I've always been fond of the Descent (this design, not the one they used before), I think it has a very credible "experimental capital ship" design aesthetic to it. And yeah, as KJC said, good work keeping the polys down, this is a very nice level of detail at this poly count. I'd love to see more of your models.

Well Terra if you want more, I got more....

Here is my take on the Aegean class from stock Armada 2.

Before the game came out, I read an interview with Rick Knox, aka Pnuemonic81, where he talked about designing the Aegean.
In it I remember he said that the devs wanted a frigate that combined Intrepid and Sovereign class design elements.
When I read that and saw his design, I didn't see it. My mind went a little too literal with the description. lol
Plus I didn't feel the ship had much substance.
So a some years later after I had put a few mods out, I took a crack at it myself. I think this would have been around the time my "Steamrummer" class came out.

So you can see that I took the brief way more literally in combining the two classes together. But I think it works, she feels like a capable starship.

The purpose of the frigate in A2 was to support the fleet with shield recharge, so I thought I'd give the deflector a more distinct look to show this.
Also note the triangles on the saucer, a nod to when they included them on the Sovereign from the Constitution.

I'm sure it won't be to everyone's taste, but I think she works.

She's about 1800 ploys, and by no means is it finished. I never did add escape pods and other details to the textures, and I bet I could shuffle the polys around to give smoother edges here and there, but overall I'm happy with it.

What do you guys think, is she worthy of Starfleet?

Superb work, but one suggestion on the descent. Add a more rounder saucer as it looks way to low poly.

Thanks MaP.
Yeah I got that about the saucer. I've always been modeling in low poly counts, and it obviously shows. I'll try to up the limit of polys whenever I get to something new.

Some truly fantastic work sir, kudos for taking on the Descent and the Aegian. I would love to do some renders of the Aegian in particular. Definitely a good balance of the Sovy and Intrepid styles.

Thanks guys, glad you're enjoying the models.

The next one I want to share is nothing new, but for some reason it was a challenge the first few times I tried it.
But this time I think I nailed it.

We all know the Sovereign class. Not everyone's fav I know, but she's a beauty to me and I am so chuffed I got her looking this good.

I tried to get all the major physical details in as best I could, and I think it's panned out well.
Hell! I even managed to get the bloody saucer more rounded than usual. Yes I know, could still be rounder. lol

Rv96aH2.jpg

Getting the underside details in was a big win for me, glad I persisted. I also like it when there is an actual deflector added in, rather than just textured on, just makes it more... I dunno... just more.

miZuapX.jpg

The engines got a bit more detailing that was necessary, like the bussards and center grill ridge, but I think it's worth it.
I found the surrounding detail of the main shuttlebay was a challenge to work on. Making those straight edges that extend beside the impulse engines just seemed to test me.

She stands at a little over 2800 polys, while that feels a tad high to me, I love the look too much to try and bring it down. Plus I'm sure most people could handle it if was actually in game.

Well guys, does she hold up? Let me know what you think.

Up next is one from quite a few years ago.

Some of you might remember I put out a ship called the Phalanx class. It wasn't a copy of the original design, I created it from the ground up in my own style.

Well before that one came out, I had tried creating it, but for some reason I can't remember, I wasn't satisfied and decided to try again.
Looking at it now, I haven't got a clue what I wasn't happy with. She's unfinished, but with a few more things done, she could have been tricked up with hardpoints and sent of to the files network.

ldEUqBD.jpg

When I went looking through the old files I found I had a second version of the saucer texture which had a lot more windows on it. much like the original design, and I can see now that it was a good call to thin them out a bit, yes it made the ship look bigger, but it didn't seem realistic to have them so tightly packed.
I also borrowed from the Intrepid's style for the color variations in hull plating.

8ZYjgxD.jpg

The underside was interesting with it's barrel phaser lance, I detailed the saucer to reflect the possible need for additional armor protection when firing. With that I also designed the deflector to tie in with the phaser lance to give additional omph! Not sure how, but hey, it looks cool if nothing else. lol

s8hx9LB.jpg

Designing the engines was interesting, I wanted something that was a bit different, but still familiar. I remembered the Ambassador class had the panels on the top of it's engines and went with that as my inspiration.
I was also inspired by the Achilles class with it's use of the "Phalanx" array micro torpedo launchers, and thought to include a similar system here.

She comes in at a bit over 1800 polys, of course that's on the low side these days, but then she's pretty old, so things aren't as round as they could be now.

Overall I can't see why I never finished this. It looks perfectly decent and almost ready for inclusion in Armada 2. Who knows, maybe one day I'll finish her up and add her to a download list somewhere.

I really like the extra armor along the lance's firing path, it's a nice detail that would be easy to overlook when designing the ship.

I always thought the original Phalanx was too kitbashy in some parts. And some areas never really meshed well into one another. Counting the Yeager and the Elkins, the Intrepid Class seemed to get the short end of the stick with variants.

This version feels a tad more focused in its purpose. The beefed up areas immediately tell that this is primarily a combat vessel. Its nice to see some genuine thought and effort go in to individual areas of the design. Thumbs up from me.
