• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

I am pretty new with lightmaps and recently I have been getting this very strange error that happens 90% of the time.

I lightmapped some textures and applied them to the models and 9/10 times I test them in Storm3D the entire model except the lightmaps are black. I checked the textures and they were saved correctly (32bits/pixel and uncompressed) yet they still seem to not work right. It also seems to be only certain textures and the thing is that they do on occasion work. Then at times others won't.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem is I use the !lambert_texturenamel_!opaque tag and when I attempted to use the !phong_texturename_!opaque tag the model appeared grey with only lightmap appearing. I checked the materials and made sure the Ambient, Diffuse, Emissive and Specular settings were set right like I have used on all previous models and they are.

Drop the _!opaque try useing _!alpha, _!default, _!alphathreshold,(not sure if thats spelled right), or just leave it blank.

I tried that but the problem is still occuring. I might have to go back and have a look a the light maps I did. Perhaps deleting them and starting again.

This should fix the problem.

I've had this problem before.
what causes it [I think] is changes to the texture. Since adding a lightmap is changing it, that might be your trouble. To fix it, at least the way it works for me is to:[1] looking at the model in ms3d, click the materials tab and delete the texture refrence. [2] select the ship using group selection and reassign the the texture to your model. now export it. Hopefully, this will solve the problem. Another cause for this to happen is altering the model in any way except adding joints. the fix is the same, delete the texture from the ship, and reassign it. You have to delete it cause just attempting to reassign it doesn't work.
