• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

    Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

    We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

It is well know by know that Legacy is moddable and is very simular to Armada 2 modding due to several reasons including Mad Doc making this game (they made A2 as well) and Legacy using an updated Armada 2 game engine.

Well here is a sneak peak of a odf physics file. Original article from http://www.legacymods.com/.

Code:
/ How fast it accelerates
minForwardAccel = 20.0;
maxForwardAccel = 40.0;
minBackwardAccel = 40.0;
maxBackwardAccel = 80.0;

// Maximum turn rate. A ship will never turn faster than this.
minTurnOmega = .3;
maxTurnOmega = 1.3;

// Maximum turn acceleration/deceleration, i.e., this gives the maximum rate at which the turn rate changes.
turnAlpha = .4;

// Maximum pitch rate, usually turn rate. A ship will never pitch faster than this.
minPitchOmega = .3;
maxPitchOmega = 1.3;

// Maximum pitch acceleration/deceleration
pitchAlpha = .4;

// Parameter for the banking physics. Actual bank rate within the banking
// physics is proportional to a ship's bankOmega---doubling it doubles
// the bank rate of the ship.
minBankOmega = .6;
maxBankOmega = 1.5;

//The top speed of the ship
minShipSpeed = 130.0;
maxShipSpeed = 250.0;

// turnOmegaFractionAtRest is how fast a ship turns at rest,
// as a fraction of how fast it turns at full speed.
turnOmegaFractionAtRest = 1.3333333333333333;
pitchOmegaFractionAtRest = 1.3333333333333333;
bankOmegaFractionAtRest = .2222;

//The highest speed, as a fraction of the ship's max speed,
// at which the ship can maneuver as well as it does at zero speed.
turnOmegaMaxSpeedFraction = 0.25;
pitchOmegaMaxSpeedFraction = 0.25;
bankOmegaMaxSpeedFraction = 1;

It has even been released on the same site that a hell of a lot will be the same in Legacy as it is in Armada 2.

All of it will be very similar, from the models and hardpoints, to weapons defintions, sprite files, sounds, directory structure. Armada II modders will feel very comfortable with Legacy.

Looks like Legacy may end up being the A3 engine that everyone had hoped for.

But we'll just have to wait and see.

So far, from what I've seen, It looks like this game engine can handle all the "medium poly" models that are available for Bridge Commander, But by the hordes (aka: massive units in a fleet). If the engine can process at least 10x, then modding it should prove fun.

Agreed. No more worring about being 2500 pollies or under if that is the case. :D

I heard stock models will be 5000-7000 pollies.

I just read that the Legacy for models file type is *.m3d.

Really, I haven't checked but I hope MS3D can support that. :)

I think the DS9 was 10k polys or so, and I've heard that it can support around 6k polys...

Storm 3d viewer: no, doesn't look like there is one.

Milkshape exporter: that was the first hing I looked for when Legacy really came to shape. I remember having read something about 3ds Max exporter somewhere, though it is not released yet...

i was looking through the odf files and it seems to use the same hardpoint system as armada 2 so milkshape should be able to eventualy

What format are legacys models in

If u know how to mod armada 2 then modding legacy is easy enough
Ive put my first ship ingame
At the moment it replaces the galaxy class

It seems u can just use an armada .sod renamed to be a .m3d

Was looking for a Galaxy X and couldnt find one (there is probably one out there some where) so i modified an existing BC model (having trouble getting in touch with teh guy who made it, known as cpt 2xtreme)

but anyway, yeah teh grouping is confusing me a lot, for this you need differnt meshes for different nacelles etc, i guess this is optional, but yeah becayuse of this and my limited texturing skill. i was wondering, is anyone out there who can texture the model for me? all in all its only a basic model to try and get me used to new stuff :)

Pm me or something if you can help! thanks!
