As i am developing my Klingon char and grinding though the reputation system, i find i am close to purchasing either a Borg X set or KHG X set.

With the myriad of Klingon fans i want to ask you what you think is the preferred set to get me though the reputations.

I have a good very rare XII shield with 20% reduction for AP and Plasma so the shield of a set is optional.

Let's hear your thoughts on the subject.

If you're looking for a shield, nothing goes past the Honour Guard Shield not as good as the MACO shield but it's close and the best you can get on the KDF side, at least before season 7. I don't know much about the hybrid sets they introduced, haven't looked into them myself yet.

As for a general BOP set-up, I assume you're using the Hegh'ta Heavy Bird-of-Prey. With all BOP's you need to really use the battle cloak and rely on it, as a BOP hull is so fragile that using it like an escort leaves you at a disadvantage. Hit and run attacks are the best use. If you're using the B'Rel then use the mines and torpedoes to your advantage as the mines will launch while cloaked and the torpedoes will launch after a brief automatic de-cloak and re-cloak after 3 seconds.

BOP's can be a lot of fun especially in a group of friends.

You can go with the Adapted Honor Guard set. It is the Klingon Honor Guard set but with the Maco stats. Each set has their unique benefits.

There is one thing for sure, out of all the ships in game, the BOP is the most nerfed class for the advantages it has. What I mean by that is no other ship in the game pays so much for one little advantage it gains. A lot of only Federation players on the STO forums constantly complain about the BOP due to in their eyes it's huge advantage but anyone who has played with BOP's at least for a while will probably say that it looses more than it gains. Due to having to decloak to fire the torpedoes on the B'Rel makes it no where near as effective. I understand why they did this however, to give their opponents a change to target and destroy it, other wise it would be OP. Though I do think the hull strength should be given a boost.

Yeah not up to date with those new sets, all the season 7 stuff I am rusty on as I don't play the game much anymore. Got bored with no new missions. Hopefully season 8 might bring new missions for both factions, if that is the case I'll be back at least for a while.

Flying the Hegh'ta Heavy Bird-of-Prey. Going back to the original question, what is the best set to competently grind though both the Omega and Romulan reputation?

Once i finish grinding to reputation level 5 for both, i'll equip the XII KHG due to the torpedo boost, the adapted set i'll probably use for my anniversary ship (can't remember the name).

Currently i have both the Breen and Dominion sets and though i can do eSTF with those equipped, i am interested if the specific bonus from the Borg X and KHG X sets make them suited for BoP gameplay.

It's still a heavy cost for a starting character so i'd like to choose one to help me get though the eSTF easier.

The best set would be the Borg Deflector and Engines and the KHG Shields (preferably MkXII). Using those two Borg pieces gives you the auto re-modulation on the shields and you only loose the lousy assimilated tractor beam, and using the KHG shields gives you one of the best shields for the KDF side. That set is what I use on Kevaas, and I used to run him in a BOP before I got the Galor and re-traited him.

I used to run 2-set borg and maco shields on my fed escorts with pretty good result.

The fed escorts are bulkier than the BoP though and i am a fed engineer which also increases their survival.

The BoP is really a glass cannon and any set to improve it's survival would be great. Looking at the KHG the placate when receiving damage may just be the edge needed.

On another note, it's really getting used to "only" two weapon slots in the rear of my BoP.

Yeah the BOP's are really at a disadvantage, I found using it on a tactical as a hit and run platform is very useful it's even better when you're playing with other players who can get the aggro on them from the AI and keep it allowing the player in the BOP to use their large damage potential to the team's advantage.

I took my Klingon Bird for a spin in PvP yesterday and it didn't perform too bad (considering most probably fly full XII-fleet gear) and managed a couple of kills.

The abundance of tractor beams and the Borg shield neutraliser give the low hitpoint boP a hard time in STF though. It's really shoot and scoot which hinders overall DPS because of the work you need to put in to survive.

The point defence console i picked up helps a lot though. In pvp against cluster torpedoes and mines, in STF against the giant balls of death (Borg HY plasma)
