I agree that with Seven coming back and Icheb to some degree plus what they learned from One during his short life on Voyager and the Dr's 29th century mobile emitter plus the general passage of many years with all the races working on new technology in the Alpha quadrant there would be some pretty awesome new stuff.

They also have Admiral Janeway's armor, stealth and weapon mods to work with as well. I'd be curious how Starfleet feels about using future tech with a pending Borg invasion at their door?

Something I've always wondered about too is if/how the Borg would adapt to the Breen energy damping torpedo? It took the allies many months to develop protection so I wonder if the Borg would do it faster?

I found your statement about the Dominion squad under guard interesting. :) Reminds me of the Borg Squad on the supposed Warship Voyager in "Living Witness." Are they allies or tools?

One thing I'm curious about is how they found out about an impending Borg invasion? Have you fleshed that out yet?

Eh... cheating.

Anyways, I got the Klingon campaign up and done. I feel that some may need a redo.

Got a few new images, one is starring the Galaxy again, but for good reason.
when_worlds_collide_by_darthassassin-d80ge94.png

This is a joke image, having old vs. new. In the description on DA, I noted that the JJ-Prise seems to have plot shields, which are shields that protect it from critical moments that it would otherwise be destroyed in, but are useless otherwise. I'm looking at you, Into Darkness.

This one was to commemorate the chapter of SFI that I'm a member of, the U.S.S. Avenger.

And here we have the new cover art to my fanfiction, with two of my main characters drawn up for me in a commission.

That's some superb efforts right there - definitely bringing your A-game this time around. The new banner for Twilight Frontier is very tasteful as well - finally something that doesn't look like an amateur show. :)

For the sake of technicality, the depiction of shields in the early Star Trek flicks was pretty wishy-washy as well. I always thought the blue shield bubble was more of a TNG thing. Chang's torpedoes in ST6 and Khan's Reliant attacks seemed to pass through the Enterprise's seemingly absent shields too. It helps to be objective when you're not barraged by purist propaganda.

I'm pretty sure the shield colors for different factions was a DS9 invention. Before that, it seems they were whatever color and style the episode's effect team decided they were that day.

Crusade the episode where that public relations guy came in and was giving them new uniforms and doing a whole rework on the ship. It was also the episode where that alien ship was discovered and it's energy based lifeform was taking over the crew. It also had the actor who played Neroon playing a human.

Yeah big B5/Crusade fan here. My bad!

Some of the space backgrounds that are available after a quick Google search are frakking amazing. And even then, using pieces of some and putting them against others really works too!
Take a look at these guys, and see what I mean

Alrighty, so I recently reached 500 deviations on DA, so I of course made an image with the Enterprise-D.
easy_lover___500th_deviation_by_darthassassin-d83x7gj.png

I'm also working on using the Galaxy less, so here's two without her at all.

And now we come to my latest piece. I noticed with a lot of images on DA that use proper rendering programs and some of @Jetfreak's, the weapons have an actual lighting effect on the ship's hulls. So I made a test image here, but as a proper render so it wouldn't just be a WIP. How's it look?

Great work on that phaser reflection. Aside from that one, I think my favorite is the one with the Ambassador.

These two are my favourite, anything without the Galaxy is a good thing in my books. Keep up the non-Galaxy artwork mate. Expanding your horizons and subject matter is very important for an artist. :D

Certainly improvement in some areas but in others a little unrefined. Some of the glows are flat and the phaser beam with the Ambassador feels off. I like the extra effort with the phaser reflections though and the compositions themselves are great. :)

I guess some of the backgrounds you've chosen are too detailed (sharp) for their own good. A common mistake is just inserting a background and leaving it as-is. That's a big no-no in my experience. Have you tried blurring them to achieve a depth of field?

Love the Ambassador shot. A severely underutilized ship.

Methinks, if you're up for it, you should do some Akira shots as well...just a thought... :p

What he said ^^^
You are making leaps and bounds in terms of ability, but I fully agree that the backgrounds are too sharp in some images.
As for the phaser reflection, it's good that you've started to look at this, but I think in your test image you've focused the reflection too much. The way the phasers emit light will be along their entire length, and you should get reflections in more places than just directly under the beam. I'd suggest dialing down the brightness of the reflection (my first thought was that the hull was on fire) and diffusing the reflection across a wider section of the hull (but lessening as it gets further away)

As an example (and my apologies for posting images on your thread) this was a weapons test I did. It's not perfect, but the reflections were not added added in post, they were rendered with a light source at the barrel exit and reflecting along the length of the beam which was a semi-transparent luminescent tube. I don't think it's rendering correctly, but it does show light reflections at multiple points on the hull. (Incidently my sister told me that this sort of thing should be done in post )

My eyes... it BURNS!!! :hot:
Mr Majestic SIR :salute:. Requesting permission to clap this man in irons and remove him from the premises via torpedo tube.

That said... this has potential. Put a decent caption on it and put it on facebook and I reckon it could go viral...

I think you're supposed to say, "Hello, kitty!"

I wouldn't even know what that is. I grew up before all that stuff flooded in. :lol2:

I'm thinking one of three captions:
1. Hello Kitty
2. Man flies the galaxy with that paint-job, people know he's not afraid of anything.
3. Pink is the new black

Textures and lighting do more than any amount of poly's can in a model.

Are you planning on doing more non-Galaxy model images? No offense but I prefer to see you experimenting with other themes. :D
