I am surprised I am the first to post about this.

For those of you that liked the 1996 movie, Independence Day, the sequel is official.
Independence Day:Resurgence, The sequel to the 1996 film Independence Day. The film stars Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox and Brent Spiner, reprising their original roles, along with newcomers Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Sela Ward, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Joey King and William Fichtner. The film is scheduled for a June 24, 2016 release. Filming began on April 20, 2015.

Note, once again some movie stars have let the hype go to their head. Will Smith wanted $50 million to do the movie, and the budget is $200 million. So, sadly, Will Smith will not be in the movie.

Plot/preview Spoiler Alert
Twenty years after the events of the first film, the international community recovers and builds up Earth's defenses using technology salvaged from remains of the alien forces. However, the aliens were able to send a distress signal before their final defeat, which results in a new task force of alien ships coming to Earth and threatening the human race once more.

I personally say "It's about time!"

To be honest syf I'm not concerned with the lack of will smith. He's a good actor but in my view when an actor/actress asks for that kind of money a sequel/film is better of without them.

I couldn't have put it any better MAP.

I for one an looking forward to the movie. If it's as good as the original, then I'll be looking forward to the 3rd movie (which Fox approved 2 sequels).

I don't know the last thing Will smith work one was complete crap as in After Earth it may be better with out him.

With that said it will be good to revisit this franchise again and here is hoping that it lives up to the original.

I thought Spiner's character was dead.

It was never definitely stated that he was dead but it would be logical that he was a live given dead mean can not speak and he was being used as a com-system by the Alien captured pilot that was implied to be a telepath

Should be good, I'm looking forward to it! The question is...will Thomas J. Whitmore still be flying?

My question is, after such an event (the first movie) has the world united together with a single leadership? Is that female President, President of the US or of Earth?

I just double checked. The last time Dr. Okun is seen, Major Mitchell was checking his pulse. They apparently filmed a line where he said, "He's dead, sir," but cut it so they could bring him back for sequels. I feel like they should have replaced it with some sort of confirmation that he was alive if they wanted to use him again.

Also, rachni can speak through corpses via telepathy.

I can live without Will Smith not coming back but I'm pretty bummed David Arnold won't be returning to do the music. He's one of my fave composers.

I am looking forward to this sequel. I loved the first movie, after all. And as Syf said: It's about time. :)

They have released the official trailer for this movie. I looks like it will be a good one.

I tried to post the video here but I can't seem to get the imbedding to work.

I wonder why Will Smith isn't going to be in this one.

I don't think he really was interested and asked for way too much money. At least that is what I read somewhere.

Yeah, it was something ridiculous like $50 million. Would have been nice to have him, but I think the story can move forward without.

I am totally going to watch it, but I wanted to see him sucker punch an alien again. I am sure it is gonna be good without him.

Talk about overkill, that's enough $$$ to buy his own F/A-18!

Or an alien hybrid fighter.

Anyway, I'm pretty excited for the movie, Will Smith or no.

I'm not holding my breath to be honest. I'm never too keen on sequels that have taken far too long to happen, since more often than not, it seems that it wasn't worth it.

One of my biggest points of evidence? Blues Brothers 2000.

If it turns out to be actually good, I'll say I was wrong, but I don't see this being worth seeing for the time being.

And another new trailer - at this rate they won't have anything new in the film!
