• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Imagine This....

I don't know if this is the right subforum for this...

Starfox's comment in the Tooltips Thread inspired me to think about this. I'm an old TCG guy... So what would Armada II (or one of the various mods) be like if it was a Trading Card Game? I'm sure that some of you have played games like that before. (I still remember playing the old Pokemon TCG... good god, that was so many years ago...). What would it look like, and how would it work?
Would there be stuff like 'ship' cards, and 'special weapon' cards? How cool would it be if you were playing in an asteroid field and would just flip a coin to see if your ships are damaged? How epic would it be to have cards with small screenshots of your favorite downloads from MSFC of A2F as pictures, just like the Admirals Log pics? Wouldn't it be awesome to go "Heey, I had two Galaxys in my Booster pack! Like, OMGWTF!" now and then? Wouldn't it be uber cool if there were things like "Dominion Wars Expansion Pack" and "Delta Quadrant Battlefields - Enhancement Set"?
I'd love to see Thunderfoot doing a Physics Project for THAT A2... :lol2:

What do you think how it would be? And would you like playing it?

That could be interesting. You could have different values for torpedo and phaser damage and things like the chain-reaction pulsar's damage could be based on what ship uses it. I'm gonna make a sampler card!

Here is a mock up of a Dawnstar card.

I included ratings for size, shields, energy weapons, and torpedoes. Not exactly sure how all of them would work. Maybe size could determine turn order?

Gods I've unleashed mosters on us all:p

Looks good but not quite what I had in mind. I was thinking something more like the military tradng cads they put out in 91.

How did you make this one?

Looks frikkin' cool! I think we could make a better game, though. :p

I imagine that size would determine when you can put it into the game. Class A vessels (destroyers) can be put onto the battlefield in the 1st turn, class B vessels (cruisers) in the 2nd turn. The Battleships would be class C, they would come into play in the 3rd turn. This also gives the player enough time to build a fleet from the cards he/she draws. So if one has a Dawnstar and the other one has a B'rel, he can't just be pwned in the first turn.
There would need to be a limiting factor. In the old Pokemon TCG, there were energy cards you needed to attack. Here you would need Officer Cards for your ships in order to be able to use them. This could even make it possible to take over a ship (When the shields are down, put twice the needed amout of officer cards on it and it's yours... or something like that). But then we would also need a Hull Value.
I imagine that you could fire the phasers every turn, but the torpedoes would need to be reloaded for one or two turns. But only one of them can be used per turn. In 1on1 situations, there would be a perfect firing pattern, but when there are more than one enemy ships, this wouldn't work anymore. You'd have to think.
There could be all kinds of utility cards, like the mentioned "Swift Strike" for firing both weapons in one turn, or special officer cards that make the ship they're placed on better, or repair ships you can place into the game just like ships.

Aw man, we HAVE to do something like that... :yum:
