• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Hey guys - dinosaurJR here!

Lately, I have been gravitating away from my usual modeling / texturing work and have been experimenting more and more lately with the above mentioned IL-2 Sturmovik.

I guess a lot of you guys have either played / heard of / own this game?? I know Thunderfoot does, as he was the one that sik'd me onto it in the first place (good call mate, its probably the most fun Ive ever had with my clothes on... Swimming at the beach aside...)

For those who dont know, IL-2 Sturmovik started out around 10 years ago as a simple combat flight sim, based on the Eastern Front of WW2... Over the last decade, it has been patched to heck and back, then there once more for good measure, modded up the wazoo and generally made better and better in every possible way... Kind like our beloved Star Trek Armada Series...

And like Armada, it still has a strong following - there are still to this day modders, many, many modders and the humble sim that started out on the Eastern Front ca. 1941 has now taken us from desperate combat above the Somme, ca. 1916 through the Spanish Civil War, the Phoney War, The Battle and subsequent Fall of France, The Battle Of Britain, The Siege of Malta, The North Africa Campaign, The Invasion of Italy, The Balkan Campaign, Operation Overlord, The Advance into Germany and the Fall of the Third Reich... But it didnt stop there, no siree bob! The Pacific Fighters add on brought the Corsair, the Zero, The Wildcat, the Hell cat, The island hopping campaign and the fall of japan too!! We now have mods for the Korean War too; and rumored to be coming soon, the Vietnam war... :excited:

Yep - everything from the Humble Sopwith Pup - The Eindekker or the Dr1 through the Spitfire, Hurricane, Bf 109, MiG3, IL-2 (of course!) The Lancaster, The Catalina, the deadly Zero, the P-47, the Mustang, B-17, to the P-80, F-84, F-86 Sabre, the Sea Fury, the MiG9, the MiG15, MiG17... So many aircraft, all flyable (well, 99% at least...) And the maps! So many maps, with new ones coming all the time. Campaigns and missions too are easy to create yourself (much like mapping in A2...)

Anyways - enough of my gushing here... I was just wondering if y'all had heard of it... Its awesome and well worth the 9.00€ price right now on Steam...

Sounds really interesting, DJR. I like the sound of this one.
Just lately, for my WW2 fix, I have been playing Hearts of Iron2. But I had been thinking, just the other day, that it had been a long time since I had played a decent flight sim. I may well give this one a look. Thanks

Sounds interesting, but I avoid steam at all costs.

Steam really isn't all that bad - i actually run three separate installs of IL-2; One Modded with Ultrapack 3 (in preparation for the awesome DARK BLUE WORLD mod pack) One lightly modded with Korea War Jets and one clean as a back up - Steam doesn't care... They all work fine, whether I am connected to the net or not...

To be honest, I have used Steam for a long time now, and I have an extensive game library - I am 100% happy with it and don't understand why people are so against it.

Not saying that you should be for it, not at all, or that your view is wrong - not gonna upset the apple cart, no sir! Just my view of Steam... It works for me:thumbsup:

So... yeah Avon, to scratch your WW2 aviation itch, I highly recommend the IL-2 1946 pack (the version you get on Steam)

Just dont click the wrong link and buy IL-2 Cliffs of Dover instead...
