• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

I'm interested in learning HOW to play these sorts of games....I have a laptop computer...but zero knowledge on how to even begin playing these games... I also saw a file download that was on this site for the USS BALMUNG. been looking for that one for a Long time...and I was wondering what I needed to do to get a copy, as I also like to use such ships to Render and create still shots for use as wallpapers on my laptop computer :)

Well, most of us were or still are modding - and occasionally playing - Star Trek Armada 1 and 2, which are about twenty years old at this point. Getting a disc copy is difficult and/or prohibitively expensive, but luckily you can get a digital copy from GOG.com: see https://www.gog.com/de/game/star_trek_armada_ii for A2.

Apart from the two Armadas, GOG.com offers a few other good old Trek games, but the vast majority of mods - and modding expertise here - is for Armada 2.

Given that these are older games, make sure to run them in compatibility mode. I also recommend installing the unofficial patch for Armada 2, which you can find here: http://armadafiles.com/files/armada-2/mods/patches/star-trek-armada-ii-patch-project-exe-125/details

For actually getting into modding, I recommend the classic guide to Star Trek Armada modding, Westworld's original Big Book of Modding. You can find it here: http://armadafiles.com/files/armada-2/tutorials/westworlds-big-book-of-modding/details

We have a download section here on the site where modders can upload their mods, you'll find some high quality works to put into your game there. The requirement for accessing it is having a small number of posts here under your belt, stick around and you'll reach it in no time. Apart from our download section, you can find mods for Armada 1 and 2 in the vast archives at armadafiles.com.

Yeah, I also used to love to make wallpapers with my modded Armada 2 install... we kind of made an art form out of it in this community. It's a lot of fun. ;)

Well, I hope this is enough to get you started. Feel free to ask more specific questions if you want, we don't bite :) And I hope you enjoy your time here!

Well there is a tutorial in the game that'll teach you to play it, of course.

Just... keep in mind that these are old games, released in '00 and '01. We can make them look quite good, because some very good artists have been making great mods over the last 20 or so years, but they're still quite old.

will keep this in mind. say, how does one reach out to a model maker? I know of a TMP era design that deserves to be modeled and put in game as well as for still shots?
