• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

How fast is your connection?

I always thought mine was slow... Seems, in the scheme of things, I was wrong...

I remember mine being the same rate a couple of years ago as it is now, only difference is five added connections LoL.
lol, just did another one, this is with 7 computers attached to my network... I've also bought a 24 port switch on E-Bay and am anxiously awaiting it's arrival... :D

I should also point out that this test was done at 9 am local, and the connection is going to an apartment, so comcast does its own funky stuff with the bandwidth, meaning I could be getting much faster than that, or much much slower depending on who in the apartment complex is using comcast service...

Bump I know.

How I envy you, I just gave it another shot after all this time and here is what I got.

Hopefully people will now understand why it takes me over four hours to upload a file over 150mb.

Seems I have the slowest connection compared to everyone who has tested their speed and posted in this thread. Ironic isn't it.

Well with my move we got a faster connection w00t! :excited:

It's worth noting that three other people were using my router when this test was taken.

I do have an insanely high ping, though.

Been tinkering with this a little. The connection to servers in Atlanta, GA(567Km) is faster with a lower ping rate than the connection to servers in
New Orleans, LA(150Km). This seems a little strange. I am pretty happy ith the Ping Rate though. Went through and cleaned out a lot of deadwood in my home network which I found was being borrowed by some people who live nearby. Reset all the passwords and encryptions and threw out of the network all the old 'puters I had laying around. Who needs a 486DX with a 30MB HDD anymore anyway? lol

You should try the MAC address restriction feature. It lets you block or allow computers at the physical address of the wireless card. You can find out the MAC address of the computers in your house and tell your router to only let them on.

Tried what you've suggested, Cabal. It worked. Right up to the point where my teenage son had a LAN party about two weeks ago. Internet security is not really high on his list of Things Which Are Important. Hence the reset I just did. We had someone use our connection to illegally D/L a copy of the Transformers film. Our ISP shut us out thanks to the DRMA lawyers. I had to go find a lawyer myself to sort it out. Loads of fun. I highly recommend spending an afternoon arguing with DRMA and jumping through hoops to prove one has done nothing wrong at all. The only satisfying part of the entire episode was my attorney has lawyer friends who have lawyer friends which are in the entertainment business. He threatened to turn the entire thing into a negative PR smear campaign for them. Rather enjoyed watching the sharks circle each other for a change. Almost was tempted to tell him to eat them anyway even though the ISP and DRMA relented in this case.

I was around before the Internet and I am pretty sure I could learn to function without it again if I had to. I'd just rather not have to because then I could not come in here and spend time chillaxing with all of you. For those who do not believe intellectual property theft is a crime, allow me to inform you that you are sadly mistaken. And the consequences are pretty severe. The worst part was I did nothing at all wrong and I was hung out to dry anyway. Thank goodness I had records of all the logoffs and logons to my network in paper form and I could verify everything through my laptop HDD and my flash drives
