I was wondering if anyone has watched these shows on tv? I am in the middle of season 1 of House of Cards and it's an excellent show. Kevin Spacy is such a good actor and wondered what others thought.

I haven't watch OITNB, but I saw that Kate Mulgrew has joined the cast and thought that was pretty cool. I've heard the show is really good, but haven't checked it out yet.

I saw the original (UK version) House of Cards a couple of months back - great series! Watched the whole lot back to back in a single day. I can't comment on the US version (other than it being a modern US remake it can't be as good :lol2:) but the original is well worth the watch - you just don't know who to root for the whole time. I'm keeping an eye out for the follow on series in case they put them on.

I've been meaning to take a gander at House of Cards, but I've got to finish The West Wing first. Absolutely superb show right there.

@ KJC: I know I lead a sheltered life, but I had no idea this was based on a UK version. :)

@ Zelph: I never got into The West Wing. Just didn't interest me for some reason. Maybe I never gave it a chance. Like so many other shows I've missed. :)

Companies seem to like to recycle older concepts and shows. The UK really made some awesome shows back in the day, being in Australia when I grew up we got as many UK shows as we did American and then there were the Aussie and Kiwi shows as well. So we got a bit variety there.

I have never seen either versions of this show however, I don't seem to watch a lot of TV these days, mainly because channels put the decent shows on at terrible times and I often forget to tune in to watch them. To be honest Terra Nova, V, Defiance, Agents of Shield, Bogan Hunters and Housos are really the only shows I have watched in the past couple of years on TV. The last two are Aussie made comedies, one totally made up the others real life find real life bogans in Australia. Certainly worth the watch as Housos and Bogan Hunters are both on DVD. Kind of glad I don;t live in Tasmania after watching the Hunters.

Neither did I haha.

It's quite fantastic. I had fond memories of watching it with my dad as a kid, but I hadn't ever sat down and watched it in some time. Good stuff. And still politically relevant despite the passing of years.

You're not sheltered - you just accept the stated truth that America invented everything :p

We actually get a few Australian shows in the UK too, there's one channel in particular that tends to show things from your side of the rock. And there is of course my Mums favourite - Home and Away :help:

That's the funny thing, the majority of Aussies don't like Home and Away, I think less than 50% of our population actually watch it. In fact it seems to be more popular overseas same with Neighbours. My Dad had some American work associates who loved Neighbours and he used to record some of the episodes and send the tapes to them, we were like 6 months ahead of them and they loved it.

Those kind of shows are unofficially banned in this house, Kat doesn't like them, I don't and the kids don't like them either. But Kat's mum and my mum love it. Though I must admit if I was forced to watch it or the football I think Home and Away would win out.

Can't stand that stupid show, was alright back when I was a kid when it first started out but seriously, they need new stuff, nothing is original anymore it has out played its welcome! I begrudgingly let my mum watch it when she visits and even then I only let her use the smallest Tv in the house and insist she keeps the volume to a bare minimum!

You might begrudgingly watch it over the football but I'd rather go watch the grass grow! I think it would be more interesting!

It's funny you say that as I was going to say yesterday that I should have known it was a show we stole from England, but I didn't want to go there. :) We do get a lot of shows from your neck of the woods. I'm proud of who I am and where I come from blah, blah and all that, but I seriously question the originality of American TV in a lot of cases.

I'm so sick to death of all this staged "reality" TV crap that I could toss my cookies. And all these fake celebrities and their ilk. UGH. We are remaking movies by the truck load and designing cars based on old cars (though don't talk bad about my Mustang :)) and I just have to wonder where is the originality? Something new? Don't get me wrong, it's not all bad, but I really question a lot of things we partake in over here. :lol2: I'm sure it's the same the world around in many cases too, but correct me if I'm wrong.

To be honest I watched big brother one night about 11 months back just killing some time before I went to bed and after watching it I felt dumber for watching it and wished I had that hour back. Reality TV is really boring in my opinion, why watch something like that when you can go out and live it. Though who'd want to live half the stuff shown on those shows is beyond me.

There's nothing wrong with a mustang :p

I'm the same, there are too many remakes/reboots for my liking, they need to start having some originality about them and give us something brand new to watch and don't even get me started on the darn reality shows

Ditto, although I may watch it on mute. My big problem with the show is how unbelievably stupid the characters are!

To be fair, I watched the original Big Brother. Yes it was a sort of gameshow (but that was as much to keep the people inside entertained), but they were "normal" people and the original focus was on the observation of the people in isolation. They often cut in psychological analysis. But it's a far cry from what we have now, and it spawned the whole reality tv mosntrosity.
