No thread about this show here? Can't believe it!

I have to admit as a guy with medical background: I am a huge fan of this show... (but I also liked the first seasons of Emergency Room and Third Watch)
My former :)cry2: :yuck:) girlfriend told me that I absolutely have to watch it. Of course my reply was "Yeaaahhh... right...." but I was force to watch and I liked it after the first five minutes.

Sometimes (actually: nearly episode) the medical stuff let's me grow grey hairs and now and then horrifies me. Not the whole diagnostic stuff and the cases (though some are really far-fetched) but the day to day stuff.
None of the doctors wears rubber gloves when examining or touching a patient. Injections of medication that is usually administered via IV is given intra-muscular and works *instantly*.
I do not want to continue this list or even rant about how they do CPR...
(Shockin' flatlines, as always... no heart compressions, no controlled breathing, just electroshocks..... :yuck:)

But otherwise: A great show. Good characters, awesome and snappy dialogue. I can't really tell why exactly I like this show that much.
Maybe it is the characters and how they interact, especially the triple House - Wilson - Cuddy.
Maybe it is, because my father looks exactly like Hugh Laurie (the actor who play House).

My favourite characters are probably James Wilson (I kind of see a part of myself in that character) and Allison Cameron.

Even if you are not tooo much into that "hospital" genre of shows, check out "House M.D."

But, as I said, I also liked the first seasons of Emergency Room. (If you want a show that depicts how it is in the ER, watch "ER"! I should know, I've worked there!)

A few tidbits:
The person who plays James Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard) also played a role in "Dead Poets Society" (with Robin Williams). I unvoluntarily watched the movie recently and thought "Oh my god, it's Wilson!" all the time.

Lee R. Ermey, former US Marine Corps Drill Instructor and the infamous Drill Sarg from "Full Metall Jacket" plays House's father... a retired.... guess what? US Marine!

Lisa Edelstein (House's boss Dr. Cuddy) was celebrity ambassador of the American Red Cross.:thumbsup:

Soooo! Watch the show!
Sorry if my post was a bit unstructured, but I've never introduced a show here before....

Anyone else watchin'?

I never miss a show, it's awesome. I've always been a Hugh Laurie fan since I was a child but when the show was anounced I couldn't see lovable English gent playing a miserable, american doc but he does it so well. My favourite interaction is easily House Wilson, like chase new character dev alot, never liked 13 (pity they dropped Masters).

Favourite Ep - Merry little christmas.

Geez, I am glad I am not alone round here, hehe.

(pity they dropped Masters).

I absolutely agree. I liked Masters a lot more than Thirteen. In the case of Masters I think they depicted it quite well how it is to start with medicine.

Oh and: One time I was on station for the Red Cross at an all-ages family festival... a guy collapsed (duh... macho type. sure, if it's really hot water is not needed... just beer. Nothing serious though).
They guy complained about everything! To tell you one thing: women complain less when injured or hurt.... men are soooo whiny).
I yelled at my colleague "OH MY GOD, CALL NINE ONE ONE!" in exactly the same fashion the relatives of House's victims always yell...
My colleague (beautiful red head, btw) started to laugh but the people arond
did not take it as good... well, I could not resist.

Olivia Wild is to interesting what a blackhole is to light. She was so boring they kept adding things on... Druggy, bisexual, huntingtons, criminal. She's the only hot bisexual woman in the world who could bore me (an amazing talent in itself) and I've seen her in another film with Russel Crowe and she bored me in that. Marylin Munroe said something about making it through Holywood on her Knees, I now believe her because some casting guys better be getting something great to subject me to this. Why they didn't kill her off and keep Amber I'll never know.

You know the pleasure you felt when Nelix finally left voyager, I hope to get that with 13 someday.

Cameron was fine, played a good anti-house role but Wilson did it better. Masters had great promise I think.

Kat, I'm in the same boat. My wife can't stand it beyond the first few seasons. I record it and watch when she has to work weekends. Great show, right from the moment he introduces himself in the clinic during the pilot.

House is quite possibly the best thing Hugh Lawrie has ever done with the possible exception of Blackadder the Third...

I loved it from the moment I saw it - possibly my favorite show right now (with the possible exception of Mad Men...

I have the first 5 seasons on DVD and am waiting for the other seasons box sets to be released... Im hooked - just awesome!

My favorite episode is the one with the girl who feels no pain... she has this huge tape worm in her gut... but its difficult to diagnose, due to the feeling no pain brain thing... just brilliant!

Or maybe the episode where it WAS lupus...

Favourite scene: House drugs Wilson with Amphetamines (aka Speed). Later on Foreman wants to talk to Wilson about something and comes into his office only to find a completly high and hyperactive James Wilson. After that Wilson has to perform a preventive breast cancer examination (while still being on Speed).

Awesome.

Favourite episode: A film team does a documentary about a boy undergoing needed and medically relevant cosmetic surgery.
"I became a doctor because of the movie Patch Adams..." House

This is one of those shows I normally don't watch. Then again, episodic TV and I haven't gotten along in years. But if I happen to be channel surfing and this is on, I usually will stop and finsih the episode. The stories are good and the characters are well drawn. Hugh Laurie is pretty amazing. The House character is a mass of conflicting impulses. Had he not discovered an outlet for his bored intellect in medicine, he probably could have become the most successful serial killer of all time.
