• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Happy Halloween!!!

Well, Happy Halloween, everyone! Did anyone, besides myself, dress up for either going trick-or-treeting or handing out candy?

Me? Well, I was a lawyer handing out candy.

Being Australian we don't celebrate it, as it's an American custom though many try and do it here but get turned away quite often.

I personally find it to be a waste of time. But my kids seem to enjoy it. My youngest that dressed as batman found another little kid that was dressed as robin. They went around the entire fall festival the church had together. It was really cute.

Lucky I don't live there as I would be suing the parents for not controlling their kids (ie the damages caused).

My kids dressed up. Black spiderman and batman. They were so cute.

Lol, now this is interesting. Last night, I saw a black Spiderman, a red Spiderman, two Darth Vaders, a Clone Trooper, a giraffe, the Thing, a Mortal Kombat character, a sumo wrestler, the angel of death, a high-school graduate (the costume, not an actual graduate, lol), a werewolf, a hippy, a flower child, and the usual assortmant of fairies, princesses, fairy princesses, and so on. And those are just the ones I remember off the top of my head.

Being Australian we don't celebrate it, as it's an American custom though many try and do it here but get turned away quite often.

Actually, for the record, its not an American holiday. "All Hallow's Eve" first started in Scotland, if memory serves.

I will go to a Halloween party today, and my costume will be an partially assimilated redsirt! :D

Sounds sweet, BQ.

but Americans were the ones to over commercialise it, and thus turn it in to the mother of all non-holidays  .

I spent the night ignoring the door and playing Rainbow Six: Vegas.

Fortunately, the chavs and such dont come down our estate much, so its mostly just the neighbours kids.

next year will feature a garden hose i think...

If one uses their head they can. Trust me it doesn't take much to catch the culprit.

As for being originally a Scottish holiday, my point still stands about it not being celebrated in AU. It would be like other countries celebrating Australia Day or something.

The good thing was this year we had no one show up, perhaps they all forgot and finally realised it wasn't celebrated here.

Like I said use you head and you will catch anyone trying to get your place. I honestly think the law is way to easy on minors, I think by the time they are 8-10 they know the difference between right and wrong and should be treated as an adult. But this is going off topic.

Back to Halloween.

Yeah, Anyways i found the origins of halloween :) . Wiki is your friend for this stuff :D

Halloween originally came from Ireland, it was spread to Scotland and America when some moves out and has since spread out . Scotland shared many of the rituals with ireland ( Both shared the same language ect, very similar back when it was born ) . It was originally called All Saints' Day but was renamed to All Hallow Even ( Which has been shortened to Halloween ) .

They did not end up with alot. Alot of people did not give out candy this year. Last year they got 2 or 3 times the amount they got this year. This year it was enough to fill a good size bag.

actuallly there may be an inconsitancy there...
Hallow even being far from the only explanation fo the word i have heard.

The one I was taught, and brought up with was
All hallow's eve.

Which is a derivation of the old Ghemisnacht germanic tradition, a night when the dead can make their way back to the mortal world and interact....

Or an excuse for a knees up when the harvest was well and truly done and people were looking at their animals to decide which ones weren't going to make it through the winter..
