Six Halo titles down the line, it’s probably fair to say that some Xbox 360 owners are sick to the back teeth of Microsoft’s flagship shooter.

However, with longstanding Halo studio Bungie officially no longer connected to the franchise, it falls to spin-off developer 343 Industries to pick up the highly acclaimed mantle and deliver something fresh.

Sadly that looks somewhat unlikely. More pointedly, a rush of thoroughly unsubstantiated ‘industry chatter’ has emerged suggesting that the next Halo game will be a complete remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved that launched iconic Spartan warrior ‘Master Chief’ on the Xbox.

Rumours of a Halo retread have emerged via the latest edition of UK print publication GamesMaster, which offers that the Xbox 360 remake is likely to run on the same engine that powered Halo: Reach and could arrive in November of 2011—the tenth anniversary of Halo.

The magazine also suggests the game is likely to precede a 2012 sequel to Halo 3, which currently stands as the final series chapter centred on Master Chief.

GamesMaster’s report follows hot on the heels of tantalising comments made by the head of Xbox UK, Stephen McGill.

Speaking in a recent Eurogamer interview, McGill said: “I think some people want to go back to older games and see them revisited and I think a lot of developers want to see that too.â€

I am one all for a re-make/update of the first two halo games. This is very exciting news even if outdated.

I agree that Halo 1 could actually use a remake. Everything was rather sub-standard compared to all the games that came after and with Reach there are now oddities, such as being the only game without Brutes. Having a small smattering of Skirmishers would also be nice, though I think Bungie said that the last of them died on Reach.

Personally, I really hope it uses the Reach engine. That was just beautiful.

I haven't had the pleasure of playing more than just online combat, but I would love to see the first one redone. It was the first one i played and probably my favorite(though, I never played reach, i heard it was really epic)

All for a remake of the first. Particularly if it includes blood gulch lol. Worried what the lack of bungie means for it though

I think the remake with either make or break 343 Industries. If they do it well they have the opportunites to remake H2 and do a H4, the latter is semi confirmed in the rumour mill/leaks from certain Microsoft members.

But it would be nice to see H1 updated with things like enemies, ODST's, etc from the later Halos.

It looks like the current plan is still 360 exclusive. Apparently, one of the devs wouldn't be surprised if a PC version was made, but that's far from a confirmation and there aren't currently any plans for it.

****it. I never played any of these games, and actually was looking forward to get into it. But getting an almost outdated console just for that single game is not going to happen.

Yeah, I might buy it if there were a pc version, or definitely if there was a ps3 version, but I am not about to buy an xbox just to play the halo series.
