• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

I thought it would be fun to see if anybody could guess my operating system from a screenshot of my desktop. Whoever answers right gets a 1280x1024 desktop image pack!

I was thinking a little more specific; OS X, Vista, etc.

Well they are making a Windows 8, to fix the problems they have in Win7, like Win7 was suppose to in Vista and so forth.

I don't know if they are in beta stage yet or not, I think there could be a beta floating around on the web a while back, I recall seeing one I think.

*Sorry to be off topic. What exactly are the problems with win7? It sin't perfect, but it is soo much better than vista that I haven't noticed any issues that need an upgrade like vista did.

:clap:Z wins! Yay!:excited: I'm using Windows XP with SharpEnviro and ShellWM. Now if you'll PM me an e-mail address I'll send you a bunch of desktops. Twenty-one to be exact.

heh, that would be cool.
I agree, a Windows 8 beta would be cool.

To be honest I don't really know. I do know that it doesn't like running older programs and XP Mode was too resource intensive to be useful for the average user. Unless you're running 4GB+ worth of ram.

It sure didn't look like XP. Nice. Yeah a unauthorised Win8 is floating around on sites like rapidshare, I saw one a few months back. I personally avoid beta versions of programs, only beta's of mods I will actually touch.

Visual and interface mods are actually pretty common - but CABALs looks da bomb, yo...

I stick my task bar to the top too - although I auto hide it (i guess great minds think alike, huh...)

I use un-modded Win7 on my personal laptop, but I use ViGlance on my work laptop - it adds the tile features and pinning to the task bar (as seen in Win7) and a whole bunch of nice visual features (like task bar transparency and a really cool looking start button effect...)

I like what you did there CABAL.

There is one major problem with windows 7, in the eyes of some armada modders; it can't run 3dsmax 5. Which means I had to roll back my desktop to xp and only model on that, not my laptop. Not that I mind. It gives me a reason to use the desktop, and I could never get on with modelling on the laptop anyway. Silly touchpad. :)

Oh, I know what you're talking about. I just bought a laptop for university stuff. But I can't GIMP with that thing. Drives me crazy. :x Good to have a PC as backup.
