• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

    Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

Hi all,

Well last night I came home from work and was fairly tired, didn't want to work on the site as my mind wasn't on it's game and I didn't want to break anything. :lol:

So with that in mind I decided to do a spot of modelling/re-texturing. Going back to work I had done previously but never finished I did the following:

Cardassian Starbase:
The model is by Achilles, based off the station you see in the last season of DS9, the one where Kira and Co steal the Jem'Hadar Attack Ship. I re-textured the model and did the minor mesh changes, the textures are from Aad Moreman.

Cardassian Outpost:
Aad Moreman's starbase he released back sometime ago, I did some minor mesh and texture changes to have the station have a smaller feel and a more boarder outpost feel to it.

Cardassian Shipyard:
A kitbash from Aad Moreman's station, it's a shipyard with a command tower. Before anyone jumps in, I still haven't gotten around to adjusting the textures on the Cardassian ships. Something I do however plan to do soon, it's on my modelling to-do list. :thumbsup:

It's Funny, that one only took like an hour and a half, the quickest of the three. The others took like 3-4 hours approx (Outpost) and 6-8 Hours approx (Starbase) to do.

Thanks Hellkite, I also plan on re-texturing the stock turrets. Out of Armada 2, the Cardassian stations were the cleanest meshes available in the game and I am taking advantage of what is available in stock and re-using them.

I am hoping to get a complete set, or near complete set of Cardassian stations done. I however have no plans for Deep Space Nine. Reasons for this is simple, it doesn't fit in with the other stations and Dan1025 did a complete Cardassian mod a few months back which had an entire race of DS9 style stations. Also I also released a mesh pack back ages ago of DS9 and various other stations that fitted in with DS9. ;)

Well that's enough of my ramblings. :lol2:

Those are good stations indeed, nice work. What Ilike the most is what you did with the Outpost. Outpost are very used in my modded game as they can defend very well mining stations too far away from your main base or maybe other assets.

All looks rather good there mate. :) You've done a good job on Achilles' Starbase, as you have with the shipyard. I ain't to keen on them towers though, so if I ever did use it, that would be gone straight away. Keep up the good work anyway!

Thank you all, I will have more to come sometime soon hopefully. Probably after I get more done on the site.

Yeah I have never been fond of towers either but the station looked so bare so I added one. That shipyard is designed as either a small or mid sized shipyard. I may be re-doing it and if I do I will still release this version as a sod or the very least a ms3d/3ds file.

Yes, it's the Cardassian Orbital weapon platforms used in A2 as plasma/beam turrets. This is a modified stock mesh and re-textured using Aad Moreman's textures.

In game it will be used as either a turret like stock and meshed together for an orbital defence weapon. It's also only a whopping 474 pollies. :thumbsup:

Ahh those turrents look beautiful. Ive been dreaming of turrents like that for ages. But I never had the idea of tweaking the old stock ones. what an idiot I was. Somehow I feel like the developers should have made the turents exactly like those. But those look just right.

Well sometimes the most obvious answer is the best one. :lol:

I found that the stock meshes for the majority of the Cardassian models were the best in the game, they were/are very clean when compared to other races. I think they just revamped the A1 models and re-used them for A2 with some additional pollies and a re-texture.

As you can see from the screenshots I have started to get models in-game. Also I am using the gallery feature. I have only added projects that have some sort of activity... If you run a project and want a gallery section please PM me also the same goes for a forum section for a project.

Anyway the Cardassians are starting to shape up.

Hello all,

Well time for an update. I have been modelling a bit of late. I am really eager to get the Cardassians done. I have some more ships to do and several more stations.

Here is one of my most recent completed stations, the Cardassian Spiral Disruptor Turret (Phaser Turret for simplicity). This design was inspired by one of Achilles Cardassian turrets.

I am also thinking of redesigning the Cardassian sensor station I am using, it won't be much to do but I think in the end it will fit in more with the fell and style on the Cardassians.

Here is what it currently looks like:

I am thinking of having only three logo plates rather than the four, as Cardassians traditionally use three.

Below is also another station I have done, the mining station. This model like the sensor station is by Achilles.

Again I would like to have only three pylons to fin in with Cardassian design and style but with this model it might not work due to the purpose of the station hence I am thinking of just leaving this one as it is.

Sweet, the model's designs still have the very Cardassian look. Really cool how you made it look like parts from ds9.

These are very very good. They look far more Cardassian than the Stock stations. I sometimes wonder which episode of Scooby Dooby Doo the artists were watching while texturing the Cardies.

:lol: Thanks guys. I am kinda hyped at getting the Cardassians completed and released. It's the only modelling and A2 work I am doing currently. I really want to get them released and see what feedback I get on it.

Today after many many hours of work I present you the Borad not bored or board but Borad Battleship. Think of it as the Cardassian's Galaxy Class. :thumbsup:

I still have a little bit of work to do on her and I am not completely happy with the re-texture. I feel it's my worst re-texture yet. But right now that's how she is staying as the countless hours I've spent on her in in excess of four at least.

So that's one Cardassian battleship now thankfully. :thumbsup:

Oh and she's 1924 pollies. :)

Well I have done my fair share of modelling today so I thought I would do some graphic work. I was first considering a GUI then didn't feel like it so I did this:

This is the current Cardassian fleet as it stands, I still have a considerable amount of work to do, but with the school holidays now on I am hoping to do at least one model a day so that's 14 models I should get done if I can keep up that pace.

Well these past two days I have in my spare time been trying to get one of my favourite Cardassian fan designs completed so it can fit into COE. This evening I just finished what seemed like the impossible and I am considerably proud of my effort.

I hereby announce the Makur Advanced Heavy Cruiser, modelled by Avon and edited by Majestic. :)

As with the last of the above images, below is a better comparasion of the Makur next to the Galor Heavy Cruiser, Keldon Heavy Cruiser (Galor shown due to both these vessels being the same length) and Kalon Battlecruiser. You'll see that she fits in between these vessels size wise.

She may not be perfect and I plan to tweak the textures slightly on her as I have noticed a few texture errors but apart from that she is as close to perfect I could get her. Oh and she's only 971 pollies. :)

Good news everyone,

I now have the Cardassian turrets in-game. I am still working on the Orbital Weapons Platform (or torpedo/heavy turret) one that appeared in Deep Space Nine.

However I have at least apart from the balancing gotten the Phaser Turret done.

I have also done something a little different than the standard mod. I have gotten my phaser turret to rotate, yes that's right it rotates to face the enemy so it can get a clear shot to fire.

Below are three batch image sets of it in-game. In each set I didn't move the camera at all, it's the turret rotating.

I am still working on the physics for the heavy turret, I just can't seem to get it to move it's butt up to fire it's torpedoes. But I am very happy with the phaser turret.

I would've gotten a video, however FRAPS seems to want to crash the game and I believe it has something to do with the settings, something I had a issue with on my old system.

Anyway feedback would be kindly appreciated. :)

If one turret will move, then it is a only matter of time to get the other one to move. This is something I've wanted from the very beginning. Turrets should move. Great job!

As to getting FRAPS to work correctly ingame without a crash. I had the same problem. Here is the work around I use. FRAPS and A2 conflict on an executable or data stack somewhere which they both are set up to use at the same time, but I cannot find it so far

- Start A2 as normal first. get to the particular scenario or IA map you want, press PAUSE/BREAK.
- CTRL-TAB to the desktop
- Start FRAPS.
- Click on the A2 button in the task bar to return the game to full screen mode, then unpause the game.
- When you have recorded what you wanted from the game, CTRL-TAB A2 back to the Taskbar. Turn off FRAPS next. FRAPS has its own Folder which was installed on your HDD when you installed it. This is where all your screen captures and video captures will be. Return A2 to fullscreen from the Taskbar and continue with the game or exit from it. I hope this helps.
