I registered over at the Fleet Ops website early last week and posted an intro thread. I've been lurking over there ever since. This morning, my time, I D/L'd and installed FO. My install is v3.2.2. I have not yet installed Tunngle or TeamSpeak but will probably do so later on this week. I then picked a two player map at random and tried a skirmish game as the Feds against a Hard Borg AI. Took me all of five minutes to get myself assimilated. I should now change my username to, "Ricardius of Borg", rofl. The look and feel of FO are so very different from what I've grown accustomed to. And my A2 custom install is about 2.9 GB, not counting music.

I am very interested in the map making aspect of FO and accessing the Map Editor while ingame. How do I do this? I am asking because looking at the maps available there are very few which are asymetrical as most of mine are. I think I'd like to convert my maps over to FO format for others to enjoy. If someone has already converted my maps, can someone tell me where to find them please?

You can access from the main menue, or it by hitting Ctrl + E to avoid the Ctrl + a (select all) hotkey.:)

Again, welcome to the dark side... Muwahahah!!:naughty:

Indeed Fo is a totally different ball game, much more balance. I am still learning what to do in early game and trying to figure out counters. My memory is so bad that even though I have looked through the guide I can't remember when in-game.

I think a list is in order, of what counters what for us newbies. :lol2:

I've been playing FO for almost two years online and I can say that I'm still a newb in most cases . Some players play so consistently that they've just memorized everything by now. While I can't claim to know every passive, counter, or hard counter by heart, after a dozen or so games you'll start to notice what ships fair better against certain other ships. I play as the Dominion a lot, and after my playtime I've noticed Breen Cruisers tend to fair well against larger battleships but are horrible against smaller ships because torpedoes have a higher miss rate against smaller ships (Naturally Breen Cruisers can tear through a Galaxy class ship in about 10 seconds, but can't hit a Monsoon class if their life depended on it). I don't know the specifics or the math behind the Breen Cruiser, but through trial and error, wins and losses, you'll start to notice what ships are good for what situations. For multiplayer I also highly recommend 2 v 2 games. They generally are much more fun as there's a little more room for early game mistakes, not to mention getting access to mixed tech is awesome. 1 v 1's tend to be very competitive and the smaller size of the maps on them means the matches are usually over before it's started. Also the AI in FO tends to be very unforgiving, particularly the merciless AI. I still have yet to beat a Borg or Dominion AI set to merciless.

About the maps, as Z said the option for the map editor is at the main menu. The map editor is much more refined then the one in A1 and A2, though it still uses the F1-12 and tab keys to go through menus which always bugged me. I'm certain down the road the devs will update the map editor even more, especially when megadroid's finished up more stuff with the campaign editor.
