Well, I can't decide which series I like the best, it's a tie between two of them: TNG and Voyager.

TNG because it was the series that introduced me to Star Trek, Voyager because of the Borg. (In my opinion the Borg have never changed from the first time we saw them, only more have been added. (With the exception on how they look like, but that's only because of then TNG was made the producers didn't got the time to make the Borg the way they wanted them to look.))

TNG, first series I watched and I think they've got the best characters (not at first but they've improved greatly in the later seasons and movies.)

It would have to be DS9, for two simple reasons, character development, and space battles.

Either Voyager or DS9, both were great shows.

Voyager or Enterprise. Those are prettty much the only 2 shows I've seen most every episode of. The 10 I saw of star Trek the Next Generation were quite good as well. I'm a sucker for good graphics but somewhat lagging plot. The original series for me was Voyager because, well, I've seen almost every episode. If I haven't seen it, it's new to me! I never really got to see more than aaahh 2 or 3 episodes of the first series. :excited:

Nah, the original series was the original series ;)

In all seriousness, picking a favourite Star Trek series would be like telling one of your kids, "you're my favourite". They all offer something uniquely wonderful, usually stemming from the way the captain is portrayed. Kirk as rugged hero, Picard as diplomatic statesman, Sisko as prophetic warrior, Janeway as inspiring leader, and Archer as desperate pioneer.... they all had their reasons for exploring and for defending their cause, whether it was their future, their family, or the Federation.

All equally worthy of admiration. Even if we like to choose between them from time to time :D

I'd nearly agree with that sentiment...
except for the fact that Voyager sucked enough to very definitely set it into last place (mostly due to the utterly unbelievable school-maam wet rag they had as captain)

So my favourite series... anyone that didn't have Jane-witch in it

I would say DS9, followed by TNG, followed by ENT, followed by VOY, and then TOS. TOS is last, simply because I didn't watch much of it (don't even know if I've watched all the episodes).

I disliked Voyager at some points, simply because the show ended up as a God Ship (apart from the occasional episode, where Voyager ended up destroyed).

DS9 gets my first vote simply because of the Dominion, and Enterprise was second, because I thought the show had great potential. TNG goes in third place, because that was (so say) the 'rebirth' of Trek.

Dagnabbit. I'll have to go with Enterprise. As Cap'n Archer once said, 'I wouldn't have it any other way.'

Granted, I love EVERY series of ST equally, BUT I liked the direction they were taking with ENT. I'm just sad that it ended so early. There are plenty of other storylines they could have ran with for at least a few more seasons, but that's just me (or the antibiotics talking. Still not all that well..). I guess I'll just have to live out my own "Birth of the Federation" stories on my own Forums.

Ah, well.

All glory to His Celestial Wisdom, Chancellor Sun-Tzu Liao.

i can barely watch early TNG due to the hokey effects that were so lavishly placed on voyager and ds9. I do however, love voyager, BUT, i own all of deep space nine on dvd. i personally liked dax and the idea of jadzia... until they killed her off without honor. then that whiney, simpy chick took her place and i was put off so badly.

I'm a big TOS fan and TNG fan. TOS is classic and considering the time it is from it is nearly earth shattering. Episodes like "The City On The Edge of Forever", "All Our Yesterdays", "The Menagerie" "Mirror, Mirror", and "Space Seed" are stories that series like Voyager, DS9, and Enterprise never really came close to matching. They were incredible.

The Next Generation is great for another reason. It made Star Trek cool in a new era. A process which the later series seem to have tried really hard to counteract. TNG bought us the best possible cast of actors with great story writing. Like TOS it was a "space drama" or "morality play".

I think that DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise are largely responsible for the virtual death of Star Trek as a widely popular franchise. They just geeked out a little too much. Enterprise tried to reverse that process but didn't go far enough.

What really killed Star Trek was that they abandoned what made Star Trek what it was. Star Trek was about how people could be better than are now. It was a series of morality plays where human beings live up to their true potential and explore the unknown together. In the Old Series and most of the time in TNG there was a moral lessen in each episode. DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise completely betrayed the Star Trek legacy. They were anything but Star Trek. They're shoot'em'ups with fancy CGI. If you look back on the best TOS and TNG episodes they were almost always about discovery and adventure in the unknown where the characters showed all that is best in humanity. DS9 was about war and silly social interacts like a soap opera. Voyager was a show filled with HORRIBLE actors who were cheesy at best and flat out annoying by most peoples standards. A huge number of Voyager episodes resolved themselves in violence and combat. The series began with shoot'em'up action and ended with it. So did DS9. Enterprise had the potential to be a really great series but they blew it. Terrible writers and too much pandering to the shoot'em'up enthusiast ruined the show. All that nonsense about time travel and all that pretty much killed it. People who hadn't kept up with the series couldn't pop in mid season and know what the heck was going on. That is how TOS and TNG were different. They were for everyone and every show was like a fresh start. DS9 was a Babylon 5 rip-off and was designed to steal a little of its thunder but failed in this utterly. DS9 and B5 are not even on the same planet in terms of quality, story, acting, etc. If the franchise big wigs ever hope to bring Star Trek back from the dead (it is in fact dead) then they have a lot of work to do. I only hope that this new movie they got coming out soon isn't a complete disaster doing even more damage to the franchise image. They are going to have to go all the way back to basics they have forgotten and make a Star Trek that is about the original franchise values and not about shooting it out across the cosmos and who is doing who. Bringing back a little bit of military professionalism to the characters might not be a bad idea either. Another Neelix or Rom and I'll probably give up on the franchise for good.

How can DS9 be a rip off B5 then they were made at the same time and released to the public only one month apart? ;) I know they are very similar to each other, but it may all be just a coincidence.

DS9 is a rip off of B5 for the same reason that all these crime dramas compete for the same air time. DS9 was something put out to compete with something that paramount and cbs felt could steal some of their market share. In show business its all about numbers and as you can see when one show goes on the air on one network there is a virtual carbon copy of it on another. CBS, NBC, ABC, and Fox have been doing this for years. J. Michael Straczynski, the creator of B5, attempted to sell his idea for B5 to Paramount in 1989 but was rejected. He provided Paramount with the series bible, indepth character profiles, and a synopsis for the first 22 B5 episodes. Paramount developed DS9 at the same time WB was developing B5. The first season of DS9 was very similiar to B5's first season. Too many episodes had too much in common for it to be a mere coincidence. After all, Paramount had all the material Straczynski provided to make a rip off of B5 which they did. And besides all that, I think Roddenberry would have been ashamed of DS9. Those who knew him best, like his wife, have stated as much. The whole war plot would have disgusted him. That wasn't his vision of the future. Look back at old TOS shows like "Day of the Dove", "Arena", "The Devil in the Dark", "The Corbomite Manuever", and "Errand of Mercy" among many, many others. Roddenberry viewed warfare as crude and barbaric and used it in his own productions only to illustrate how stupid it really was. DS9 embraced it and gloried in it. Gene wouldn't have approved. Voyager had way too much battle in it as well. Enterprise started well, but finished badly and like the last two series became a "OK Coral" show with bullets flying.

I like all of them but Voyager.TNG started me out on Star Trek. DS9 at first was a joke but the last half was pretty good. I do not see it as a rip off because the only thing similair to B5 is the fact that they both take place on a space station. It was an interesting way to show humanity. Also, the war idea was not so bad. War happens. It is refered to many times in Star Trek about wars. DS9 showed the Federation protecting tself from a great enemy. One can even say it showed the Federation, Romulans, and Klingons finally working together for one cause. Voyager was a decent idea but to me the only problem with it was that they showed the Borg to be so powerful that a single ship could never had made it safely through their space. Also, that the Borg had the capability to just over run the entire alpha quadrant but they just never chose to. Enterprise was a good show. I like who they chose for each role. It was good for the fact that it showed the affects that all the previous shows had on the timeline through all the stuff they did with time travel. Star Trek is not dead but it was ended way to soon. The way I know it is not dead is all the series and movies are still shown on TV on a regular basis and it is still heavily talked about everywhere. Not to mention they still make games for it. To me that is not dead.

voyager and the borg: i don't think that anybody realizes that the feasibility of voyager navigating borg space. i think that just because it wasn't destroyed doesn't mean it should have been. just like anyone that boarded a borg ship... if you didn't do anything provocative, they ignored you. the borg are just like everyone else (mostly) they can't all be in one spot at any given time. their territory was large. considering species 8472, they opened a can of worms they couldn't control. i realize attacking a tactical cube and surviving was kinda retarded and i completely understand that, but, it made for good viewing.

in regards to the dominion war on DS9, i think that it was a similar thing. the fed opened up a can of worms it wasn't quite ready to handle. of course there was going to be a war. the first stable wormhole is quite the tactical jackpot. especially since the other side contained an aggressive race. it was inevitable, whether or not the dominion was invented. the cardassians and the klingons would have tried to made the mouth of the wormhole theirs. i felt that a race making an alien species their gods were fantastic, in regards to Bajor. i don't know it was a DIFFERENT view on the new times that we were introduced to by TNG.

ENT on the otherhand would have probably been good had they not made the show look more futuristic. they should have dug up more from TOS sets rather than make their own. it was all before kirk. why did they veer so far off course?

my view.

I completely agree with DP on Enterprise. They teched it up way too much. I wanted to see them stumbling around in the dark much more than they did with not so many tech solutions to save the day but more of the TOS cowboys and indians with a more "Captain Kirk" style of doing things.

Oh and CrazyFrog, I also agree about the Borg/Voyager thing. If the Borg have so many Cubes why did they always just send one to attack the Feds. Doesn't make sense. If they had a transwarp tunnel all the way to Earth as seen in the last episode why didn't smarty pants Borg Queen just drop a few dozen Cubes into Earth orbit and let nature run its course?:D

who knows why the queen didn't do that. honestly, all it showed was just great viewing material. by then, they were trying to add more viewers and make the show more accessable by throwing seven of nine on and just kinda dumbing things down a bit.

i know some think janeway was hokey, sometimes, but by then you have to see that they were out there for years and they had become family and very, very close knit.

for what it's worth, every series had their neelix or rom... tng -wesley crusher... i just wanted to reach out and slap him a LOT. TOS -chekov and scotty nuclear wessels... lol i barely watched ENT and i thought THEIR doctor was just the worst actor they scraped up off the bottom of the acting barrel. it's all a matter of perspective.

If I were nuts I might think that hollywood is out to get me. It seems like every time a new show or movie comes out that I really want to watch they have to dumb it down with a Jar Jar Binks. I'll never forgive Lucas for making the new Star Wars trilogy bunch of two hour commercials for selling action figures and comic books. He wasn't finishing Star Wars so much as he was plowing the fields of youth to make sure franchise merchandice keeps flying off the shelves for the next 20 years. You see he wants a small island for his retirement. Hawaii maybe.

Hi. My Favorite Star Trek series is Enterprise, the TV series. This was a successful serial, in my opinion, and is a pity that did not continue the series. Captain Archer is a man of strong character, who try to prove to the Vulcans that the human species surpassed that of self-destruction phase and is able to explore space with his own effort and his own rockets. He must demonstrate the ability of their own species and later reach the situation to save from destruction our own species and probably the entire Universe.

I personally love TNG and TOS the most. I would have to say ENT is the least favorite of them all but i love all of the series. I miss being able to watch new episodes weekly but alas hopefully someone like Netflix or another broadcaster will pick up the series. I just don't really want it to be the reboot universe.

For me, TOS was just amazing, there was nothing like it ever before. It offered hope for a future in the middle of an era of riots, anti-government and strife. That era needed a vision of Hope for the future and Star Trek offered this. TNG was more cerebral than many shows of the time. It really made you think. Deep space 9, entertaining, but not much more. Voyager, their episode were just hit or miss, usually miss. When they brought in Jerry (7 of 9) I felt is when they jumped the shark. I really liked the caricature Kes. I thought and felt they did the actress wrong who played her.
My Favorite Episode by far though was TNG 125, The inner Light. The one was writing at its very best. A darn close second is TOS Balance of terror.

TOS must have been amazing in its time. Parts of it are still really excellent. I think a lot of the "filler" episodes have aged badly. The TOS crew are a delight in pretty much any episode though.
I think you're underrating DS9 - it was the first Trek show to deal with the topic of religion directly, and the first to have an overarching storyline (arguably the strongest one to this day). It takes a while to get going though, the early seasons have some gems but are pretty weak overall.
Voyager is indeed pretty hit and miss, though I liked Seven as a character. It did basically become the "Janeway and Seven and the Doctor" show after that. It's also the show that drastically weakened the Borg as an antagonist, compared to their early appearances. I still like some of those episodes though.

I'd love to hear your opinion on Enterprise. I think it's a pretty divisive one among the fans. There's some good stuff in there, but overall I thought it was rather meh. Probably my least favorite of the old canon Trek shows.

Like you, Enterprise was really hit or miss. Started off good, a few really good episodes, but them towards the end, not so much, mostly due to what seems poor scripts and writing. It had great potential, and good acting but the writing was off. personally, I liked it a little more than Voyager but when there are shows on like we have today, Kardashian (Sisters, not DS9), and crap like that (the live reality TV) I'll take the worst of any of the Star Trek episodes over them any day of the week! I love the Heros and Icons channel!
Per TOS, Yes, I am in agreement. Season 3 had some real duds for sure that even in their time, were a "What??" kind of moment.
