SquireJames, post in the Favourite Character thread gave me this idea. Who is your favourite Klingon character seen in the 5 series of Star Trek?

Mine would have to be a cross between Worf and Martok. I like Worf as he isn't like other Klingons, he's domesticated compared to them while still holding their values. Martok on the other had is a Klingon with a strong sense of loyalty and honour which can be seen throughout DS9 but the episode that displays this the most is 'Tracking into the Wind' where he becomes chancellor.

If I had to ultimately choose between the two of them I would have to go with Worf.

General Koord, Klingon Ambassador to Nimbus III. More a comic relief character than anything else, but that made me laugh =)

General Chang. There is no better Klingon EVER.

"You will fully enjoy Shakespear when you read it in the Klingon original!"

PachPah! PachPeh!

Then comes Martok.

Personally, I am unsure. I did have an admiration for Gowron throughout TNG, and the early stages of DS9. It wasn't until he turned out to be an un-honourable.

I think I'd agree that Worf and Martok would be at the height of any favourite, as with any honourable Klingon. There was one Klingon, in ENT (I believe played by the same guy who played Martok). Can't remember his name, but he stood by Archer's side in his Trial. He had a lot of honour about him, and fought for both Archer, and what he, himself believed.

In my opinion they've made no Klingons better than the ones from the first six movies. I love those Klingons. I still like the TNG/DS9 Klingons but I kinda think they went way overboard with the whole Klingon honor thing. I liked Klingons a lot better when they were just 100% mean and nasty. I too like General Kang very much. He is what I call a true Klingon. He's just a nasty character. But I have to choose another Klingon as my absolute favorite. To me Commander Kruge from the Search for Spock is the quinessential Klingon. He's vicious, brutal, cruel, and predatory. He's a Klingon who's not afraid to lie, cheat, steal, or murder. I guess you could say his appearance was the last time that the Klingons were depicted purely as villians. In STV and STVI they weren't this way. That's probably the one thing about trek canon that I can't understand. Why did they have to go and make the Klingons the "good guys"?

Once more thing. I felt like the later Klingons were a little over dramatic. To put it another way, later klingons make a loud noise while old klingons sneek up behind you and stick a knife in your back and then smile at you as you die. Klingons don't care about things like fair.

Simple. The Klingons were meant to be some kind of Space Soviet Empire... with the explosion of the moon Praxis (which was an exaggerated Chernobyl, as one of the writers, I believe, said) the Empire fell.

Star Trek: Undiscovered Country depicted the ultimate turning point of the Cold War in Trek as pendant to the Real World.

I actually like that very much. Still, the Klingons cannot be fully trusted, the peace between Feds and Klingons remains some kind of chilly.... like between the new Russian Federation and the USA/NATO.

In the late 90's Russian and NATO forces nearly clashed, as Russian Paratroopers secured the airport of Belgrad, as NATO was in its campaign against Milosevic in Serbia, kind of like the short war between the Federation and the Klingons in DS9.

In Star Trek, the concept always was, that no one is totally evil, everything has its shade of grey. While shows like B5 and NewBSG may stress that to the full extent, Trek did that great, too.

EDIT: Sorry, I cannot let the chance pass, to ****yse the hints to real world developments and history in Trek

Chancellor Gorkon. He's worthy of remembering. It's between him and Martok for me because they were the only Klingons (aside from Torres --does she count?-- and Worf) who weren't completely primitive. I include Gowron because he was a primitive in civilized clothing. Unlike Gorkon, Gowron simply took on the pretense required to play the Federation into his hand.

That's true, Gorkon was definitely a good character, and the actor they cast played it perfectly. That's one of the things I like about ST:6; they got some of the top theatrical actors in to do some of the main parts (David Warner as Gorkon, Christopher Plummer as Chang, etc).

I think that how the Klingons were portrayed in the films, in ST6 especially, was the best that I've seen of them. They were exagerrated wildly in TNG and DS9, not enough to make them too unbelievable, but enough to distort what had been seen of them beforehand.

I watched ST6 a few days ago, during a long ride in the back of the van, and have to say I'm always impressed by it, more than any of the other films. The portrayal of the various races (the Klingons especially, but also the Romulan and Federation people) is just perfect.

I'd pick Martok, battle hardened and a true klingon at heart.

Chancellor Gorkon is a close second. He spearheaded better Fed-Klingon relations. He put his life on the line for that.
