OK, dear MSFC members. I'll admit it publicly: I am an Eternal N64 Fan.
I've had my old N64 lying around for some time now, but CABALs Z64 retexture thread made me pick up my loved gaming console again. I have only a few games, but everything is in a great condition. I've started gaming again, and I am in a great mood. Everything feels... right again. The old button combinations re-emerging from my memory, a gamer's instinct and graphics that really make you feel at home. This is what I grew up with.
I'm sure that there are some people around here who still possess this console and are Eternal Fans. Are you one of them? And what are your Favorite Games Of All Times?

I miss my N64. My faves were Star Fox 64, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Golden Eye.

Let's see, I have Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Perfect Dark, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Diddy Kong Racing, Golden Eye, and Star Fox. I think Ocarina and Perfect Dark are my favorites.

I just played Star Fox the other day, passed up my previous record kill count! Got to the 'true' boss of the game too, by taking the right path!

Goldeneye was just awesome! 4 person competitor mode, while the screen becomes so small, is still wicked fun! Still play that to this day!

Mario 64 was great, and got to play it through a few times on the DS version as well (150 stars = w00t)

Top 2 had to be Donkey Kong 64 and Goldeneye

IMHO Goldeneye is the daddy of all current FPS....and Doom and Castlevania its daddy. IDK Goldeneye was prefect. Great Game, great plot, great...everything (hopefully Goldeneye: source plays the same {HL2 mod}). Donkey i still play from time to time...cant get tired of it...still annoys me from time to time lol.

I got my green clear N64 hooked up right now, think im gonna go have some fun :D

SIDE NOTE: played Rouge Squadron on the PC...would have liked to play N64 version though

I like the music of DK64 too. I got DK64 because I loved the DK Country games for the SNES, and DK64 really lived up to the hype I expected it to!

As far as the Castlevania titles, the CV games for the N64 weren't all that impressive. I went with Playstation for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (after I finally realized it existed). And that was always just loads of fun! But the Castlevania games for the N64 weren't really all that "Castlevania"-ish to me. I would have had no idea that I was playing a Castlevania game if it weren't for the title on the game cartridge and the title screens! The modern-day "Metroidvania" games that fell in line with the Symphony of the Night type of gameplay were mostly all pretty good, including the most recent one on the DS, Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia.

Speaking of "Metroidvania", I have always been big into Metroid, since the NES days. Super Metroid was one of the most memorable games to me. Although of course, Super Metroid was for the SNES, but it still far more than holds its weight today as one of the greatest Nintendo games of all time, well as far as I'm concerned. Even today it gets ratings similar to that of Super Castlevania IV (SNES) - ratings like 92%, 95%, even 99 and 100%! Even some recent games can't compete (as in, great state of the art graphics don't always make a great game, but in the case of these games, it sure helped a lot!).

I played Perfect Dark before, I got that game because Goldeneye had opened the doors for that game. It was quite a good game to try out. If you have an N64 and somehow have that game lying around somewhere, I'd pop it in. Well worth it!

I have not 1, but 2 in-use N64s (plus a spare console). The most played games in my collection are Mario Cart and Poke'mon Stadium. I have a small handful of carts, and plan to start getting some more soon. I educate my kids in the art of gaming starting with the simpler SNES era, then N64, then GameCube/PS2, and then on to the current systems.

A side note, in my family, the kids have access to many systems including SNES, N64, PS-one, PS2, Wii, PS3, XB360, GameBoy, GameBoy Advance, GameBoy DS, GameBoy DSi, plus V-tech learning consoles (for the younger kids)... and of course, PCs.

Yes, my kids are spoiled. Hey, they are 3rd generation video gamers!

I liked Golden eye.....I remember finding a good spot in front of a security camera and spending hours just unloading thousands of rounds in kills. LOL. The Metroid games are awesome. Although the point of Super Metroid on SNES was to beat it in under 3 hours....I did it in 2 1/2 hours second try. I may have to "allocate" a game system while visiting Syf....LOL

Believe me, it's even cooler if you still have one of them... ;)
I can imagine the emulator stuff being good, too - as long as you have a controller for your PC. I tried PJ64 once, without one. :-(

Starfox 64 (AKA Lylat Wars), Goldeneye, OoT, and Pokemon Snap (Yes, Pokemon Snap :p) Were the highlights, as well as Banjo Kazooie. It still remains to be my favorite console, though mine fizzled out a year ago >,<. I am tempted to find another one, since they're not that bad to get off of things like Ebay. That and I'd love to get my hands on the DDrive, though THAT is quite bad to get...it's very rare, and has a very big price tag.

Also, there are N64 controler-to-USB adapters out there, it's just hard finding a decent one .

Pokemon Snap (Yes, Pokemon Snap :p)

I mean, why not? You don't have to be a Poké-Freak to have fun with this game. Although I AM one of those, believe me... get your controller out and I'll smash you in Stadium. :lol2:

I think I'll try to find one. Emulators do have their advantages.

I think the DD was only released in Japan, so I'm not sure that you could get any games for it. Come to think of it, I don't think that even PJ64 has DD game support.

Sure, why not, the more, the better. LOL

Did I mention of all the different consoles and combined with the PC stuff, there is over 10,000 games for my kids to play.

As far as Poke'mon Stadium, thus far, I have not been beat. LOL

I myself would be happy just to get a PC gamepad to work. I never really liked the design of the N64 controllers as they were difficult to use, even back in the day. I much prefer the Xbox style controllers as I also kind the PS controllers quite difficult.

But yes I still have a fair few games for the N64, they are as follows:

  • Donkey Kong 64
  • Mario Kart
  • Shadows of the Empire
  • Pod Racer
  • Goldeneye
  • Perfect Dark
  • Zelda: OOT

There are more I can't remember them off the top of my head. I will have to go over to my Mothers today and get it out of the box I have over there. I packed it up for moving now I want to play Zelda OOT again. :lol2:

That may be because the N64 was kind of a crossover. It tried to combine the good old d-pad controller with a joystick. Which is quite confusing, because most modern games use the joystick instead of the d-pad. Not to forget the L, R and Z buttons. They fixed this problem when the GameCube controller was created - they moved the d-pad to a secondary position and did the same to the C buttons. I'm sure you used one of them - I like the N64 controller, but the NGC controller is definitely an improvement.
(Yeah, controller design history is one of my interests... LOL)

That may be because we haven't met yet. :lol2:
Joking aside, I'm not that good anymore. I used to be in the old days, but the generations after the first games changed much of the battling engines, so I'm not used to the old one. My favourite battling engine is RSE, although GSC was great, too.

Shadows of the Empire was epic! Especially the level where you're in the Imperial City, or whatever it was called. I got too much Oblivion on the brain!:lol2:
