Downtime was a direct to video spin-off drama released in 1995.
Downtime saw the return of The Great Intelligence and the Yeti as a sequel to their TV stories The Abominable Snowmen & The Web of Fear. Downtime takes place 25 years after the events of the latter TV story.
Downtime sees the return of Nick Courtney, Lis Sladen and Deborah Watling in their respective roles as the Brigadier, Sarah Jane Smith and Victoria Waterfield.
Also in Downtime is Jack Watling (Deborah's father) reprising his role of Professor Travers from the two aforementioned TV stories and John Leeson (who had been the voice of K-9 but is seen in Downtime in person as a different character).
Ever since I first found out about it in the 1990s I had wanted to see Downtime.
Having finally seen it recently I unfortunately found it to be a great disappointment.
I really wanted to like it but I could not find anything exciting about it.
Nick Courtney seems to do well with the material he has been given, Lis Sladen does not seem to have that much to do (as she herself admitted in an interview with DWM she did not think that Downtime worked well for her) and while it should have been good to see Deborah Watling playing Victoria again I did not like what has been done with her character here.
