Spiral Scratch was a BBC Doctor Who novel released in August 2005. Featuring the Sixth Doctor and Mel, it was written by former Big Finish producer Gary Russell and served as the Sixth Doctor's swansong (as he was not properly given one in the classic TV series).
Interesting the book was released two months after the Ninth Doctor's swansong in the current TV series.
To put it simply the plot involves multiple Doctors, multiple companions and multiple universes.
Overall I think it has been an interesting way for the Sixth Doctor's swansong to have been sung. It is too bad however it was not made as an audio performed by the Sixth Doctor himself Colin Baker as well as Bonnie Langford as Mel.
A nice link-up to Time and The Rani (the first Seventh Doctor story) with the book ending with the teaser to that story and the first line of it as delivered by Kate O'Mara as The Rani.
The Sixth Doctor's last moments was very effective.
