• Hello and welcome to MSFC. We are a small and close knitted community who specialises in modding the game Star Trek Armada 2 and the Fleet Operations modification, however we have an open field for discussing a number of topics including movies, real life events and everything in-between.

Being such a close community, we do have some restrictions, including all users required to be registered before being able to post as well as all members requiring to have participated in the community for sometime before being able to download our modding files to name the main ones. This is done for both the protection of our members and to encourage new members to get involved with the community. We also require all new registrations to first be authorised by an Administrator and to also have an active and confirmed email account.

We have a policy of fairness and a non harassment environment, with the staff quick to act on the rare occasion of when this policy is breached. Feel free to register and join our community.

Corn Whiskey and Modding - An Excellent Combination!

Hi all! I have been busy modding whilst drunk. I may never mod again whilst sober, lol. Today, I watched about 6Mb of missions for MC2 crash so badly, it nearly took down my OS. I was giggling hysterically just before I rebooted my 'puter from the flash drive backup I keep. I have no idea why I found it so funny. Which is even funnier to me right now. W.C. Fields may have been onto something way back when. Alcohol dulls my worries about what people around here really think of me quite nicely. How very liberating a thought that was! To sail through Life without a care. Hey Diddly Dee! The pirates' life for me! But when my brain is this out of control, it is hard to stay focused. Stay on Target, you horse's hind end! That was directed towards me, not any of you. The corn whiskey is really quite good. Smooth as brand new silk until it hits your stomach. Then, it goes off like a WMD, lol. Makes the modding more interesting, too. Did you know I can make all the BattleMechs School Bus Yellow? They are most amusing this way. Played a mission like this and it was hi-frakkin'-larious. But none of you will care or even notice. Since I stopped modding A2, I've been the Designated Non Person around here, haven't I? No one even says, "Hi, Rich! how ya doin' today?" I offer up some stuff for Syf's project and allow the Team to use anything I've done and released, and after I post such the second time, someone says, "Thanks". Not lookin for a brass band or anything like a "We love TF Day" or something like that. It just would be nice for people to speak to me again. But it's okay if you don't. Wouldn't want you to get in trouble or anything like that by standing too close to the loose cannon. You might accidentally get some on yourself. And that would be bad. Because you do not want to be lumped into the same category as I am. Non Personhood is no fun. But it's quiet, too. Allows a fellow to think really hard about things. And for thoughts, there is always more corn whiskey.

I haven't been posting a lot these days in other threads. I am a bit out of it lately, so very tired and such. You can probably read up on a few of my problems on DA in my Journal.

To be honest I'm still a little annoyed how some people here spoke about my wife over a decision she made that I myself 100% supported and would've done the same thing in her position. I find a lot of people not treating her as an admin around here, they treat me and Syf differently to her and it's NOT right. She is the one admin that does the most work around her, she authorizes all the new users and makes sure they to the best of our knowledge aren't spammers etc, she solves a lot of the issues around here too. I think she deserves a lot more credit and respect that she gets. In fact I have even told her that the next time someone disputes a decision she made or acts like a arse to her to give them an infraction, if they are going to treat her differently to Syf and I, then they really have to place here.

So it's one of the reasons I haven't been posting as much as I used to over here, been more engrossed in my own projects than anything else lately, even been playing more Xbox and doing gardening rather than posting in every thread and replying to every person. A lot has changed, we've lost a child, my mother starting to cause problems again and I've been put on a disability payment due to my problems just getting worse, almost ran over someone the other day seriously and I'm about to kill me neighbour the stupid cow, blaring that loud music to a point I and Katala are living with almost constant headaches and migraines. Having to have the TV on 50-60 volume and still not able to completely drown out the noise, having the windows vibrating and TV rocking due to it, it's a bloody joke. Yeah it's not good so instead of grabbing my mattock and going on a rampage I model, I texture, I do what I can to distract myself. That also means I don't post as often as I used to, keeping to myself more, spending more time with my wife.

Rich you will never be a non-person to me, as I said on DA my friendship with you means a helluva lot, and that isn't something that's ever going to change.

TBH while still drunk, I am a little annoyed at having to go to these lengths. But par for the course, I suppose. Others can rant and rave in public all they want to about whatever they care to and post whatever they choose to. But whenever I do so, and if people will go back and look really hard they will find I've only done so about things I feel very strongly about, I am percieved as someone who is thinking or acting incorrectly. It certainly feels this way, true or not. And everyone else's cold shoulder lately has made me realize since I'm no longer useful, I'm discounted. I am not angry with anyone. I also do not allow my feelings about worries in the Real World intrude upon my time and interactions here. MSFC is supposed to be about quality time.

But, it's 2:30 AM here and I have to be at work in four hours and I am still drunk. Why am I drunk? Okay, I'll tell you. The chemo treatments are not working. The cure really is far worse than the disease. Tired of throwing up all the time. Next step is the radiation. Glow in the Dark modder, that would be me. Should save a ton on lighting next year. Thinking of going into business as a personal tanner. I am also looking right down the barrel of a holiday season where for the first time ever, I'll have no family around or to be with. All of this sucks. No other word for it. So the people at MSFC have become my online family. Haven't posted any of this here previously because it isn't as important to me as all of you are.

Thunderfoot, that is shocking news. I can't recall you revealed that you have cancer before - and I wish you all the best to combat it. Though I do not know myself how it is to have such a disease, I watched my mother going through a hard and painful time while she had cancer (luckily, it was treatable, but it still was robbing her of all power).

From my point of view you are definately not a persona non grata 'round here. Never was, never will.
You did some seriously good A2 mods and that will be remembered. You should keep in mind, that a lot of people here felt encouraged by your work and I remember, that a few posted things like "Tfoot, you should become a motivational speaker!".

So heads up, soldier! Where-ever you stand, we'll stand with you.

My god Rich I really don't know what to say, I am so sorry you have to suffer through the hell that cancer is. I wish there was something I could do, something I had to offer besides support and friendship.

Please know that you are in my thoughts, and that I'm here for you, whenever you need me.

You name has been added to my list my friend. I will be praying that your treatment goes well, not only so that you may feel better, but also so that we can read your so called rants for years to come.

And just in case you haven't already noticed, I haven't posted on your threads for a while. This is not because I don't like you or something,:lol2: it is just because I am not into MechCommander or whatever that game is. Not my cup of tea.

Get well soon my friend, that's an order. :salute:

You should have said something sooner. We're here for you if you need someone to talk to or if you just want to rant to somebody. Don't give up, you can beat this and it does get better.

Similar thing with me; I don't have a computer that will run it so I've been trying not to get excited about something I can't have.

Jeez TF, I'm sorry. I've seen several relatives go through this so I understand. It always seems to strike out at the wrong people.

I wish you all the best my friend. And my apologies if I have been neglecting you, other than posting on my thread I haven't been paying much attention of late.

Keep up a stubborn front, I don't doubt that if anyone can get through this it'd be you.

I'm really sorry to hear this mate, my Mother was going through Cancer a few years back and we almost lost her. My sister and Father had basically given up on her yet she and I remained possitive and she beat it.

Katala and I as well as the entire community here are behind you. We aren't ignoring you everything is busy this time of year. Just keep fighting, as others have said if anyone here on MSFC can beat this it's you for sure. Keep your chin up and keep fighting. :salute:

And this is why I've not said anything before now. My friends shouldn't have to bear my burdens for me or instead of me. Don't mind at all them sharing the load, but I'll do my share of the work, TYVM. Lucky for me,(rly?) it's treatable. Gawd, the chemo just wipes me out completely. I am so very sick and tired of being sick and tired. Worst part of it really. Besides wondering the things we all do. Such as, "Have I done enough good to matter? Does my life count for something with the Force for Good? Am I fighting the Good Fight hard enough? So the Dark has one more standing against it in the place of those who cannot fight for themselves?" At the worst times, it doesn't feel that way.

Hungover with no sleep isn't the way to start a work week. I am more than willing to provide an unsolicited testamonial to this effect. Owww, my head. The worst effect of a hangover is the dehydration. Your body requires about 300 grams of water to successfully metabolize about 30 grams of alcohol. The largest reservoir of fluid in your body is the solution your brain sits in inside your skull. In effect, a hangover headache comes primarily from your brain cells drying out. Makes my head hurt more reading what I just wrote. I stopped off at a C-store on the way to work and purchased a gallon of OJ. Which was gone in about fifteen minutes. Wasn't enough. At lunch, went back and bought four litres of cranberry juice. Two of these actually made it to the counter. The other two lasted until I got back to the school. That did the trick and I am feeling better.. Well, less hungover at least.

BTW, Starfox. Already eating healthy. Part of the treatment regimen. Chemo works better when one's diet is balanced and supplemented with extra vitamins. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations specifically prohibit the use of controlled substances by a C.M.V. driver under any circumstances, however. And I get tested about five or six times a year at random times to make sure I haven't turned into Tommy Chong. Tried weed twice back in high school.
The second time was to make sure I did not care for what it did to me.

I remember my uncle Chuck had to go through chemo a few years ago. He didn't like it any either, lol. He was really pale and haggard looking all the time but he got through it though and actually looks great now.

I am glad you have a treatable form of cancer, tfood!

Aye.
If you hook up a drunk person to a 500ml bag ringer lactate (the classic Natrium Chloride will do as well) and add a few shots Glucose 40% (or a 500ml bag of Glucose 5%) that person will be somewhat "sober" a short time later. Of course it depends on the level of intoxication the person has. People who passed out (Not drunk asleep - I mean comatose) usually tend to need more than just fluids - more like aspiration protection and possibly airway managment, constant monitoring, anti-emetica etc etc....

As for fighting nausea the non-medicine way: try peppermit tea. It has been scientifically proven what my grandmom always told me. Peppermint tea can take away nausea quite effectively.

Other than that there is metoclopramide which is widely used in (pre-)hospital care, but that is medication, of course, and has several side effects when taken over longer periods of time.
You know, concerning side effects consult a doctor and all that......

Katala uses Ginger Beer to stop Nausea, it helps her so if Intrepid's tea doesn't work I'd give that a go. :salute:

Hadn't thought about what you suggested, Intrepid. My mom used the same stuff the same way. Thank you. Ginger ale is normally a staple in my house because it goes so well with a lot of things. In the summertime, I occasionally like to make a lime sorbet float. One scoop of lime sorbet in a glass with the rest filled with ginger ale. And people say gingers have no soul. Pshaw!

Rich, I am very sorry to hear of your illness.

To be honest, it knocked me right out of my chair. You are a stand up character with a rapier wit and a warm heart. Not to mention a fixture in the A2 community and a valued regular at MSFC. You certainly do not deserve this and I wish you all the very best in getting over this mate, I really do.

If you need any support, what little I can give is yours mate.

Also if you feel the need to get out any aggression, and you still have IL-2 installed, let me know and I can arrange some sort of Multi player dogfight. There is nothing like the smell of cordite in the morning (as I am sure you know already)...

Please take care of yourself bro - we are all pulling for you.

A long time ago I blogged about the relative value of online vs face to face community. My basic conclusion was that while real life face to face community was better, online community has something special to offer as well. I think MSFC's community proves that point very well. We are friends, friends who may not know each others real names or where the other lives. Friends who may never once actually see each other face to face or share a hot coffee or a cold Beer.

We are people who care for one another, share similiar intrests and gather together to here to express that.

Thunderfoot, this community is here for you, and were are not going anywhere any time soon. If you need support, we are here for you. Someplace to rant, we are here too.

I don't know what you believe in, where you place your faith. I will however pray for you. Pray that God will show grace and mercy to you, grant you healing and comfort, and that you will find peace.

And if you need someone to talk to you will find them here, myself or anyone because we are a community.

Thun, I suppose over all the years we've both been here in this community, I've never really gotten to know you very much, more than keeping tabs on your work, but I suppose with a couple of exceptions I've not really got to know many people here at all, so it's entirely my fault. But over the years, maybe due to growing up a bit, the emphasis for me is shifting away from the modding and the games and more to the community itself, as that's what this place is more than anything else, and the kind of support we get here when we need it is just extraordinary.

In fact, when news like this, and Maj & Kat's difficult times, comes up, I'm downright ashamed that there's not really anything I can say, that wouldn't be just "Yeah, me too" to someone else's words of encouragement. In most cases, I end up just not saying anything, for fear of sounding sarcastic (I do have that kind of voice, but I might "sound" like it in my writing too). But it's time that changed.

Anyway I'm rambling. The important bit is this:
I would like to wish you all, Thunderfoot, Majestic, Katala, everyone, the best of my support, and I'm sure you know, you all have the whole community behind you.

Solidarity!

@ Dino Jr. Thank you. as to the, ahem, 'rapier wit' thing, a rapier is a small light blade requiring skill, dexterity, and elegance to use. None of these are qualities I see in myself. IMV, my somewhat unfunny sense of humor seems more like a battle axe or a two handed broad sword, lol.

@ Rodglas. Thank you as well. Although I do not speak of it as often as I should, my faith in God is a central part of my life. He has placed this challenge here for me for a very good reason. I am quite sure when the time comes, He will allow me to discover this reason.

@ Atlantis. You are one of the most highly respected members of this Community. I do not recall any time you have come across as sarcastic towards anyone. You are forthright, yes. But those who would mistake this as sarcasm are thin skinned and self centered. Difficult to say anything encouraging to someone sometimes without sounding like a repeating message. BTW, the Monty Python: The Life of Brian pic is priceless! Thanks for the laugh.

To all of you here at MSFC. Believe it or not, it could be far worse than it is. Could have found it too late. Could have been something which is not treatable. Could be living in a country where the proper care and treatment are not available or is too expensive. Could be going through this without all of you as friends. Now that would be ugly indeed. lol

He he he, well, even if the rapier in question is 10 inches wide and 6 feet long, is it not still a rapier? Well, maybe not, but you get the idea... I think you are more subtle than you realise, sometimes...
As for the prognosis - well, all I can say is a very humble thanks to God that he doesn't need another tank commander just yet... I know that no one lives for ever, but I don't think we are ready to part with you just yet, matey.
