Hello all,

I'm back. I decided to create a new thread as I have made some changes since my harddrive and computer problems in terms of this mod.

Firstly, I like to announce nearly all the modelling is complete, I have 6 more ships to model, with some of those already nearly half complete. As per stations, I have one out of the 3 shipyards complete. That's it. I am not sure yet whether I am going to do research pods, or just have blank sods for them. In a nutshell not much left to do.

Now the major changes, I have split the Cardassians down the middle. Done it, they are now in half. I decided to do this as I only plan for now to do the Cardassians, I will certainly come back later and do a Dominion side, but for now it's only the Cardassians.

Note this is a post-Dominion war time-frame mod and I wanted a player to be able to play against someone, the stock races just don't cut it.

So we now have:
  • The Cardassian Union
  • The Cardassian Demographic Republic, Cardassian Republic for short or CDR.

The Republic, is the officially recognised Cardassian state and is headed out of Cardassian Prime and run by the re-formed Detapa council. They have said good bye to the days of military dominance over the people and with assistance from the Federation have been able to feed and house all of it's citizens. With the people behind them they have made major strives in infrastructure and have formed a new military (under the jurisdiction of the Cardassian government) to protect their boarders. New advanced starship designs have almost been introduced and the Republic uses very few old designs if any in their forces. In essence they are prospering in a way no one thought possible. Basically give a little and get a lot back is what the Republic is doing.

The Union, is what remains of the old style military dominated and run Cardassian way of life. The Central Command, what remained of it after the Dominion war, found themselves ordered an a ill legit government to surrender their forces. This is something the Legate Metaul refused to do, the only surviving Cardassian Legate after the war, he ordered his forces to stand their ground. Seeing the Cardassian people behind the new government, Metaul felt betrayed and he with the surviving Cardassian Military retreated to several secret bases and backwater Cardassian systems, setting themselves up as an interdependent state. They reactive many abandoned facilities such as Empok Nor to use as bases and defensive outposts. As such the Union uses mostly outdated and obsolete designs with very few new designs. These new designs most came from Gul Dukat's secret base that he was operating and using to build a fleet to use against the Dominion at the right time. The Union is sort on resources, but their ships are cheaper and faster to build, but can't stand one on one with Republic forces.

So there we have it, two for one. I only have a couple of screenshots at the moment as I am still deep in setting this up. I do have basically all the models I have done hardpointed, but only currently have the Cardassian Union in-game.

Oh also I do plan to do at least a single campaign for this mod, overwriting the tutorial missions. I am doing this so players can still play the stock campaign, as like all my mods, I build them so they don't stuff up the campaign or stock game. I am looking at this as a guinea pig for Yesteryears as that mod will have a fully fledged campaign using four races like A1 did. :)

I look forward to playing as the Cardassians in this when they are done. The Republic sounds like a nice change of pace from traditional Cardassian mods, but then again I think it will be fun to play as the old military too because they seem to have my favorite play style (spam lots of smaller weaker ships and overwhelm :excited:)

Thank you, I have just got the 2nd Union shipyard in-game, meaning I now only have 2 left.

I also took the opportunity to take some additional screenshots. Most didn't look all that great, so I only choose a few to upload.

On and most Cardassian units are different between the two factions only the following are the same:

  • Freighter
  • Mining Station
  • Sensor Station
  • Phaser Turret
  • Photon Turret

In one or two of the images you may see a DS9 like station, that is the starbase for the Union, the Republic uses a more advanced version as seen in previous images I have taken in other threads.

COE is a fantastic mod. Not only because of the interesting background story behind it, which really adds depth to the mod. No, it's the love and enthusiasm that flows into Majestic's work. Download one of the COE ships and try it in-game, you will see that the creator really cared for the work. It never feels like he had to do something. Instead, you get the feeling that he really wanted to do it, and wanted to do it as good as possible. And his work really shows that it's the work of a true fan. Really, this applies to quite a few people here in the community. But I rarely get this "Awww... it's beautiful..." feeling when looking at screenshots or in-game material. Thumbs up, that is some epic win here!

Regarding the other texture you asked for, it is being worked on. I wasn't sure where to start, with all of the different styles I've seen over time, but now I have a draft. Shouldn't take too much time now.

And I haven't showed off the really good designs yet either. :) Wait till designs like the Parkesh, Atolm and the like start to appear in screenshots. I have been holding off on these, mainly due to most being part of the Republic fleet, whom I have yet to get in-game and the Parkesh which is the Union's battleship and isn't textured yet.

No rush on the texture mate, the stock one works fine for testing the game and all that. I have yet to put all the bells and whistles in, just trying to get the models in and working on the balancing. Kjc733 has been a big hand in this, thanks to his emails. Thanks mate. :)

Thanks for the kind words Terra, I just do what I think looks good and go for the best quality and the lowest poly count. Since I produce low poly models, lods are useless for me, not to mention it would take me three times the time to produce a single model. Which I can't justify as nothing would get done.

I am also aiming at bringing the mod to play and feel more like A1, which I have been playing a lot of lately after finding it will actually work on my system with sounds and all. Love the new graphics card we got a couple of months ago.

Im happy to see COE is moving forward and your storyline for the cardassians sounds realistic for the trek universe in my oppinion. I never really could be creative with the cardassians like you seem to be.

I must admit those models look very nice........ I just have something I just can't seem to put my finger on...... uhm. I think I'll mention it if it comes to me.

But like I said, great material. I look forward to the Nor class starbase model.

EDIT:

In your 2nd post... the center attachment. Am I mistaken or is the bridge on that ship a bit.... off? I'm sorry if it is insulting. I just have a nature to pay attention to detail.

Thanks, I find the Cardassians very easy in terms of designs, you really only need a few aspects to have them Cardassian, a wing type structure, a tail section and a bridge on top. Apart from that anything can really go, along as they are longer than they are wider. But I have been known to break those rules from time to time.

With stations, 3 is the name here, with pylons and what not also have them being circular in shape. A few stations I have do have an even number of pylons (mining station, adv research station for the union) but look Cardassian enough to be able to ignore that rule of thumb.

Yeah I like breaking my own design rules. :lol2:

No insult mate, everyone has different tastes. The image with DS9 in the background? That is the Union's construction ship, it's designed to be like that. It's a re-work on the stock model and the model that Dan has in his Cardassian mod. I used both to get this design.

You'll find that I don't often do the normal, I do things my own way, I like to be different. YY really does follow this mentality as Syf is the same. :)

I have created a album for COE, to post images I will technically not normally post up. Like I have done for YY.

COE Development Album

I have also finished the Kimal class, based loosely off a design by Dolphoenix for SFC3. It's an old design, in it's prime in the 2310-2320's. It's also one of the last designs for the union that is required. All I have to do is build their fightercraft and battleship and the Union is done modelling wise. :)

I love the Kimal, it's a great design. I can already see those approaching a large Klingon Warship in small swarms, firing their main weapons as they fly towards it... Can't wait to see them in action!

Also, concerning the pulse: A spiral wave disruptor will usually kill the enemy. But I find that shooting at him with the good old Crimson Pulse makes him... more dead.

Thanks, the one by Dolphoenix looked too advanced compared to what I wanted. I wanted an obsolete destroyer, something old around the age of the Tonga and Lakat.

I am now working on the Union's Battleship. It's called the Parkesh class, after Gul Dukat's vessel that was destroyed in the season 4 opening episode where Worf joins DS9 and the Klingons invade Cardassia.

It was a design Dukat had created to be used against the Dominion after the war was won. He had a secret facility in some backwater Cardassian system designing and building this fleet, however never got a chance to crew and use them. The Union discovered this base after the Republic was formed and got their advanced designs from there (Kalon, Parkesh, Glinnor Advanced Galor and Keldon classes). Many were already built and so the Union had a fleet before the Republic had a chance to build their own. However due to the Federation/Klingon presence in Cardassian space at the time, the Union dug in and waited, secretly building their forces up.

They sound like a bunch of Romulan's don't they?

Isn't it the Prakesh? I just saw that episode the other day. I'd link to Memory Alpha if it were permitted.

:D

General wikipedia sites like memory-alpha are fine. wikipedia, memory-alpha/beta etc are fine.

As for the name, I could've misspelt it or something. Has been known to happen.

Hello:
I find the changes to the Cardassians to be a very good idea! I look forward to see more about them, specially the more advanced version of the Nor class stations, specially since we know Cardassians are good station builders :D.
Keep it up!

Thanks Chiletrek, I have also updated the COE Development Album with new images on a new test map I created using light sources by Thunderfoot. It looks spectacular. :)

Well today I got a nice surprise in my PM inbox from Terra_Inc, a new Cardassian torpedo ready to go. Well wasting no time I added it in and gave it a run.

Apart from a few models and the hardpointing and exporting of the others, the torpedo texture was one of the last things needed to get a beta set up and released (balancing put aside).

Update:

Today I have modelled two new stations, both shipyards and this completes station modelling for both the Union and Republic. I have also exported all hardpointed models into the game. I have 7 more ships that are completed that need hardpointing and 2 more ships to make. I am however unsure if these last two ships will make it into the beta. Reason being is that I had Syf making one however due to personal events that are rightly so taking his full attention currently he has been unable to complete and the other I haven't started work on as I am unable to get the feel for the ship that I want.

That all said, a beta I am hoping is only a month away at most, certainly before Christmas depending on my mood as it has been up and down a lot lately in terms of finishing projects thanks to my insomnia.

So my aim is to get a beta of COE out before Christmas this year, whether it includes the two sides battleships or not is another story. No pictures this time, however I plan to update the Album in a few days to a weeks time. :)

Hey I recently got a 20k BC version of the Nor. You want me to send it to you to look at for details?
